Raul Julia will forever be Best Gomez. I can't imagine anyone ever topping him in the role.

I still like the OG 60's version more, but Raul is an insanely close second. I am more fond of his M. Bison, of course. RIP Raul Julia.

John Astin as Gomez was fantastic in the 60s TV show, but Raul Julia was amazing and made the role his own in the 90s movies. He definitely looked like he loved that role... He was having so much fun while on set.

Raul Julia as Gomez is one of the greatest casting in any blockbuster ever. He is genuinely perfect and everyone else like Angelica Huston, Christina Ricci and Christopher Lloyd are fantastic. The fact that this was Barry Sonnenfeld first feature film as a director is mind blowing Because it’s well directed

"But I didn't hate my mother, it was an accident" probably my favorite line. One of the main reasons the humor still works today for this movie is that it leaves a few things to the imagination. To this day I still have so many questions. Why was there a little guy in the train? What is his life? Why is there named escape hatches out the back?

According to the trivia the film was supposed to take place over the course of a year, beginning and ending at Christmas. However, it was decided that Halloween made more sense as a celebratory holiday for the Addams, so the script was altered to reflect that. Haven’t had this confirmed, but I have a theory the school event was supposed to be the thanksgiving pageant that ended up in the sequel. It was too good to waste. The production design really helped make the film. There’s a dark, oddly authentic aesthetic that feels like it could work in a full on horror movie, and that along with the performances and spot on casting, really helps ground the film.

Not sure if this has been said before but The Addams Family is a lot like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: each new incarnation takes ideas and lore etc from the previous incarnation and revamps it slightly to fit the new mould and creates its own unique thing and both started in a black and white comic that's radically different from the version we know now

While I do love Christopher Lloyd as Fester, I would say that my favorite version of the character is from the 90's cartoon, which is sorta like a follow up to the movie kinda and has John Astin voicing Gomez in that one. He really loved to get hurt, loved explosions and he really loved pestering the neighbour, who also owns a factory that manufacture underwear, and saw him as his best friend, even though the neighbour hated his guts and The Addams Family in general because of their macabre home living. Fester in that version was a fun, goofy character.
@davidhouston64757 ай бұрын
Christopher Lloyd AKA Uncle Fester is a legend.
@BigEOT37 ай бұрын
I think Christopher Lloyd’s version of Uncle Fester might be my favorite version of the character, with Rip Taylor’s vocal performance in the 90s cartoon and Jackie Coogan’s original portrayal being tied a very close second. The 90s cartoon holds a special place in my heart for introducing me to the franchise. But the live action Barry Sonnenfeld films and the 1964 TV series remain important. And I love the Sonnenfeld films.

It's really gratifying to hear that the irony of the family being "weird" and being the happiest family in the neighborhood was 100% intentional. Their neighbors were "normal," but live in acrimonious dullness, always trying to get ahead and unable to work together because they don't respect each other, while the Addams' are in a passionate, joyful marriage and have children who love and respect their parents and each other, as well as extended family who fit in and are supportive. And fun fact: Ennio Morricone won a Razzie for the soundtrack to "The Thing." Yeah, as in: the guy who did the soundtrack for "The Man With No Name" movies on the soundtrack for John Carpenter's "The Thing." The Razzies are more about dogpiling on whatever it's popular to hate on at the moment than they are actually pointing out bad movies.

Look for the very obviously not Raul Julia and not Christopher Lloyd doubles who do the knife juggling during the Mamushka and the very obvious stunt guy who does the flip (and awkwardly stays lying on the ground) when Fester flips Gomez. I always do. That said, this is one of my favourite movies ever! I also love the sequel and I used to watch the old series with John Astin. 😊❤️😎🙌🔥👑

This is my favorite version of the Addams Family. So much so that when Wednesday started streaming I had a hard time with the differences. The character designs are fantastic, especially Thing, but I despise their Uncle Fester. And even then, it took me awhile to accept the series because it bugged me so much. It was a bit easier once I started exploring the comics a bit and realized the designs was more focused on that.

Don't worry about the snaps, Allison! They can just dub the sound in! :) You make a very pretty Morticia, and Phelan makes a very handsome Gomez! Seeing Raul Julia's performance in this movie just makes me very admiring of actors and at the same time, I have to admit, quite jealous as well. It must be awesome to be completely comfortable in your skin, and to be able to totally lose yourself in a role like that. I've never had even a second in my life of being that free. It really sucks that someone like me is still around, while someone like Raul Julia, a person who gave so much entertainment and joy to people, is taken away.

I think the novelization had the original ending. I was really young when I read it, but I remember being confused by it. I think fake Fester gets electrocuted or hit by lighting and when he wakes up he believes he's the real Fester and then they just adopt him at the end.

I guess maybe Morticia being employed as a pre-K school teacher must have been a commentary about the lack of qualified teachers. Nowadays, not only Morticia could totally be a pre-K school teacher, but the school would have called her after she traumatized all those children to replace the 4th-grade English, Science, and History teachers.

Pugsley in the original Charles Addams comics was a great character. He made Dennis the Menace look like a choir boy. Unfortunately, they were so big on Wednesday, they sort of pushed him into the background. They did a much better job in the 1990s animated series, giving Pugsley a more developed personality. Outside of Pugsley, who became even less of a presence in "Addams Family Values", they did a good job with the other characters.

I mean I'm torn on that original ending. On the one hand, the message of the original ending is better (that being a family is not about blood or whatever but about being with people that's make you happy). On the other end, the real Fester being gone is kind of a downer. I see what they were going for, though and am glad we don't have to talk about the sad implications of "they never found Fester for real" for 30 years.

Another example of a rare phenomenon where the stars, planets or what have you aligned and everything just worked. Story, script, directing, cast- chefs kiss. Not saying its perfect-though I think its darn close-, but I dont think we could had gotten any better of an adaptation. You can tell they had fun overall with this it shows. Funny story, I work with people with ID and other issues. This one lady HATES the song from the show when ever it comes on the TV. I cant understand why. We just went to a dance the other day and the DJ played it. I was like "Oh-oh" But she was out there grooving along with everyone else and in to it! So hilarious!
