One thing I forgot to mention is that, in the normal competitive version of the game, when a new even card is drawn by the active player, the player to his or her left can spend a currency to cancel that event and force the active player to draw another one. This is yet another way in which the game allows the players to mitigate the luck.

Great video, Daniel! There are some "easter eggs" hidden in the game. Maybe you've noticed? Jack references some other big fantasy adventure games and their designers. For example: the location card "Mountain of Mage" is a reference to "Mage Knight". When you look at the card you'll find that you can interact with a "Master Chvatil" which is the name of Mage Knight designer Vlaada Chvatil. Just check your cards and you'll find some more - don't want to spoil the fun of finding them by yourself. Regarding the storage when you sleeve your cards: there is an option for a really beautiful and sturdy "big box" when you order from the designer's website. The box fits all sleeved cards plus the original retail box, so you don't need to throw that away or anything. Plus, it comes with a small expansion adding environment cards which change some of the game rules for more variety. I highly recommend both the big box and the expansion.

Thanks! I caught a couple little nods and winks, for sure! :) It's a neat little game, for sure.

this game really reminds me of the Dungeoneer game system

There are some similarities. I really need to get around to making some videos on Dungeoneer. I like that game a lot.

Just at first glance I'm getting a One-Deck Dungeon vibe for the characters, and a Gloom of Kilforth for the map. Looks fun.

I was thinking the same thing! The idea that every card has a purpose and the relatively simple and smooth systems definitely reminded me of One-Deck Dungeon. I actually think this game seems more compelling than ODD, though. I like the more calculated idea of trying to beat checks with the cards in your hand, the light luck mitigation with some skills and your personal stats. I think I may have to check this one out. With how easily I can get distracted by big fancy, shiny games I always appreciate the effort to show off this smaller titles!

The game is a bit crunchy in terms of seeing the skeleton of the game's mechanism, rather than them being hidden under chrome. You have a sense for the card number distribution after a play or two, so when you flip one, you can feel that the odds are not equivalent to a die roll. The game is quite similar to the original, so it definitely is its own original beast. The designer lives in Indonesia and had it manufactured locally. So while I am not a sleever and did sleeve these, I appreciate that it was not to save money, but to support local business. In fact, he probably spent more to do it the way he did vs. sending it to China for fabrication. There is tremendous support from the designer on BGG, so you really are supporting what KS's vision was. In addition, he offered a box that would hold sleeved cards and fancy player figures as part of the campaign, so if that is important to you, consider getting the add-on at the same time.

Totally agree that this is the kind of game KS was originally intended for, and happy to support it.

Sliding skill and attribute cards beneath a hero card bears a resemblance to a system used in One Deck Dungeon series. I'd say, an interesting game to take your inspiration from. Or The Adventure of D was actually the first to bring it into play?
@TheDungeonDive4 жыл бұрын
AoD is from 2010, so it probably didn't take inspiration from ODD.

Late to this video but this definitely reminds me of your talisman play through! The way cards are used as resources to move and fight to replace dice rolling. Also the exploration and race to tower aspects looks like talisman as well!
