This game kicked my ass so hard growing up, but the music was legendary, at least that first level...damn, it had all the funk an NES could put out

Started by watching GDQ in 2018.... then went through their playlist and steadily started watching older and older stuff. It's interesting to watch how the show evolved. Now I'm at something recorded in 2013.... looks like they started by filming in someone's living room and gradually became a professional studio. Fascinating.

I love how characters walk in this game, especially to that music. Amazing that a speedrun of this game can be so fast.

Feasel no wonder we all like you. You make this game actually look fun, and you're amazing with that zapper. I'm now convinced that Bayou Billy (along with Contra Force) should be redeveloped as a Rebirth title with heavily improved mechanics and visuals. Let's hang out sometime! We could go to Bourbon Bourbon, Pool Pool Pool, Bar Jazz Bar, or MOON KONAMI.

Lots of fun to watch thanks!!! And I swear, one day they will notice all these comments, pleeeeeaaaassse, can we not just have a ticker for the donations? I mean Feasel is working through the difficult precise driving stage and instead of getting to concentrate he along with the rest of us gets to hear these numerous (albeit generous) donations being read out paragraph after paragraph. I do hope in The next year or two they will consider the ticker option

Note that NES games do NOT use ASCII - but they use a similar idea (there's a series of text tiles in memory, including all numbers, characters and symbols, and they're arranged in an arbitrary order for that game - so each game has different garbage above 9)
@rexviperfan11 жыл бұрын
For anyone who was interested in knowing why it displayed odd things above 9, it's because (and this is only a guess, but I'm very sure that this is why) the variable is a char variable, after 9 it goes : then ; etc look up an ascii table, it starts at 48 for 0 (and probably checks if ( 48 == (int)lives ) for when the player dies) at 57 it becomes 9, and at 58 it becomes ':'

Worst part of this run is the zapper parts. He's not holding the best way and one of his eyes are shut. When handling a smaller fire arm, both eyes open, but keep the sights aligned with one eye.
@blanktester9 жыл бұрын
Why is that the preferred method? Not a gun person, im just curious. I find it difficult to align with one eye and keep both open, just doing so in my living room gives me a slight headache. Maybe it would be different with a real target to look at.

This is ridiculous. So this game is even difficult in some respects for this speed runner!? He cant beat the final boss without the whip!? He nearly ran out of time on the 2nd driving stage despite a near flawless run at 180 mph!? This game is a joke. The developers need to be taken out back and shot... err, I mean whipped.

The Japanese developers upped the difficulty for the US release to punish US gamers who would rent the game. The original Japanese version is a lot easier.
@Hayao10 жыл бұрын
The developers had nothing to do the flaws you mentioned, it was the North American publisher that ruined the game.
@newguy9010 жыл бұрын
***** Konami themselves published the game in the US. And Konami wasn't the only Japanese company to do this. In Japan, you cannot rent a game, but in the US, at that time, it was legal for video stores to rent out games. That meant Japanese companies were only receiving money from the initial sale to the video store in North America. A lot of people who would have bought the game were renting it. To solve this issue, Japanese companies upped the difficulty so that it couldn't be beaten during the typical 3 day rental time, without it becoming very expensive for the user. Suddenly, outright buying the game becomes the cheaper option.
@Hayao10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, hence why Ninja Gaiden III's and Castlevania III's difficulty were cranked up in similar fashions. I guess my initial comment was poorly phrased, but I was trying to say that those flaws are exclusive to the (butchered) NES release, the real version of the game is vastly superior.
