More than 80 years later, this is still one of the greatest adventure films ever made. It’s an extraordinary film, a timeless classic. It has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and is in the National Film Registry for a good reason.

It's really sad this movie has been forgotten about over the passage of time. This film inspired so many adventure films both back then and now. I'm not going to act like the film is super intelligent or anything more than a classix swashbuckler, but the film teaches rebellion against the unjust no matter how big the threat, and Errol Flynn has subconsciously become the ideal version of the character. Much like "The Wizard of Oz" or "Star Wars", this film should be one of the first films children see, as it has become one of the most important films ever made.

Well, I always like simpler films. I tend to like works of fiction that have simpler storytelling as opposed to "deeper-thinking" works. Not that I don't like those, but simplicity has a quality and charm if it's own.

I'd show kids this Robin Hood over Disney's version ANY day. It's much more in tone with the tales. Plus, Maid Marion is far more witty and humorous in this version, Disney's version of her is an emotional girl who is literally smitten with Robin to the point she can barely think of much else. And they call that a classic? I'll stick with the TRUE classic, thank you very much!

For sure! The archetypal Robin Hood. Amazing movie. I always think they should have referred to this movie when they remade them. I think a light-hearted version with a little campness, similar to Pirates of the Caribbean would be cool and I reckon Johnny Depp would have made a great Robin Hood. Maybe he still could.

One of my favourite films from my childhood way back when. Gorgeous colour, beautifully shot action scenes, the best sword fight ever (and one of the longest) and Flynn, Rathbone, Rains and De Havilland all in their prime and at their best. They must have enjoyed making this film because the whole thing is effortless in character and pace. The story of Robin Hood has never been bettered on film. Interesting by-fact is that Olivia's palomino was Roy Rogers' Trigger.

Ehhhhhhh... I would argue that while the Adventures of Robin Hood was deserving of a nomination, as was Errol Flynn its hard to say it beat out other great films that year like "Jezabel" or "Angels with Dirty Faces", or the film that was snubbed entirely "The Lady Vanishes". Michael Curtiz should have won best director even if it wasn't for Robin Hood.

The composer John Williams (Star Wars, Indy Jones, Jaws...) has a poster of this movie in his office. Erich Wolfgang Korngold won an Oscar for his music in this classic. Williams would have been a young boy at the time. Clearly this movie had quite an impact on him.

Well yes and no. the 1st color film was technically back like 30 years earlier with several attempts along the way. then in around 1928-1930 there was a film about Cowboys & Indians that used the same concept of Wizard of Oz some color & some BW. Then in 1932 Techincolor Perfected its 3 Color Process Techniques being Primarily used for Animation with it later going to this film, Wizard of Oz, & Gone With the Wind being the Front Runners!!!
