Hadn't seen that in almost sixty years! Oh, and "The Great Merlini" was also the name of a stage magician turned detective in books by Clayton Rawson.

Oh, happy memories!🌞 Bob Hastings was the voice of young Clark Kent/Superboy; he was just coming off four seasons as the obsequious LT Carpenter on McHale's Navy...and he would go on to provide the voice of Police Commissioner Gordon on Batman: The Animated Series. This was also one of the rare times that Merlin was portrayed as a villain. Normally I prefer him as a hero, but the change of pace was interesting, and he was appropriately creepy here.

Bob Hastings played Archie on radio 20 years earlier. His voice didn't change!

Was the voice of D.D. in the Hanna-Barbera cartoon "Clue Club" and voiced numerous other characters for the company; Played Kelcy on "All in the Family"; Captain Ramsey on "General Hospital". His brother, Don Hastings, played Bob Hughes on "As the World Turns" for decades.

Funny when I saw this as a kid I could’ve sworn that that was actually a young Jimmy Olsen Clark was mentoring. Jimmy Timmy pretty close.

I was about to say that with a little tweaking of this story, Timmy could have been Jimmy Olsen in his boyhood. I remember a comic book story about "The Three Unknown Super Deeds" when in one day Superboy unknowingly helped Perry White then a young Reporter, Lois Lane then a teen, and Jimmy Olsen then a small child.

The Superboy cartoons are still unavailable on DVD or Blu-ray, 'cause Warner Bros. Entertainment is still being sued by the Jerry Seigel Estate, over who owns them! Maybe someday, the lawsuit will be settled and the Superboy '60s cartoon will, at long last, be released on DVD or Blu-ray!

These cartoons depicted Merlin as evil. There was a Superman cartoon where he showed up as a nemisis. The only times I ever saw that done.
