Hey Kyle! Instead of steaming with water and ice, why don't you try to use a double shot of espresso along with 2-3 ice cubes and whisk it using an electrical drinks mixer. This is a very popular cold beverage in Greece, we call it Freddo Espresso. In this, you can also add whisked cold milk (very low-fat milk + 2-3 ice cubes, whisked until this becomes a steady milk cream), which we call Cappucino Fredo. Search in youtube for those beverages!
@Schmedemann Жыл бұрын
This is the way. Also works great in a regular cocktail shaker if you don’t have an electric one.

That's I also do. Except I steam milk until not above 90f, then add extra air with small battery operated frother. Pour espresso onto ice cubes, pour milk onto. Beautiful taste, and sight. Use clear glass.

Cant get enough of it, been drinking mostly this drink for almost 2 weeks now :) For me I found 100g of water and 60g of ice with a 40g espresso works better to get slightly stronger taste, but I need to add ice to the cup because I cant steam this fast enough to not heat up. If you want to avoid ice in the cup I found 120g water and 80g of ice will result in still cold drink, but a bit more diluted

It is insane to me how this hasn't really caught on in the espresso community. I made this with some speciality coffee and a little sugar to make it more dessert-like, and it is probably the most delicious coffee drink I have ever had. The texture is perfect, the flavours are all still there and it's refreshing.

This might just be the coolest trick/hack I’ve learned for my Dual Boiler machine in a long time! I can’t remember the last time I went to my machine immediately after watching a video to replicate what I saw (I’ve done this a couple times with latte art videos, but I went “looking” for those videos… but with this, I just watched it because I’m subscribed to your channel and just wanted to see what you had to say.) I’ll def have to mess around more with it tomorrow to get my ratios better (the one I just made was a little too thin/watery for me to drink it often), but it was incredible nonetheless. Kudos on the content! Also, for what it’s worth to you, I’ve always enjoyed the videos I’ve seen on your channel, but if that hoodie means to you what it means to me, then I now appreciate/love you and your channel all the more. I've never been a fan of nitro cold brew, or even cold brew, or even Americano, (yeah I'll often drink my pour over hot in the summer), but I tried it this morning. Definitely needs some tweaking (I kinda just threw in a few ice cubes and added water to cover the ice per the original instructions, and it resulted in about a 12oz volume) and it's good but weak for me. It looks really cool though! And honestly quite refreshing. I could see doing this again or especially for friends. It's cool that it loosely mimics beer too so I could see it being an interesting cocktail/mocktail concept.

Dude. I like nitro, but it's so hard to get here, so this piqued the interest and I had to try immediately. Thank god for decaff... Turned out amazing following your ratio, but I might try a few tweaks and some practice runs. I use a commercial machine, so I've got the steam pressure and I was scared I overdid it. It took minutes to settle, so it certainly infused the air. Tasted thick and creamy with a solid head. Even if it's not quite the same as decent draft nitro, the fact that it works this damn well is insane. It's 90% the way there at least and that was my first attempt.

Air is mostly nitrogen but don't steam wands only push out H2O vapor?
@technophobian2962 Жыл бұрын
The steam wand should be right on the surface of the liquid. If the steam wand is positioned correctly, it will push air into the liquid along with steam. In milk the tiny nitrogen bubbles would be trapped by the fats in the milk, and I guess the oils in espresso are enough to trap a large volume of nitrogen too. Still crazy to me how James Hoffmann and others in the coffee community haven't discovered this yet.

You know, it really does blow my mind at how ingenious the concept is. Yeah, air is 78% nitrogen, something we learned in science class years ago, so how did we not realize sooner that infusing air would get something close to a nitro cold brew? My question now, though, is why is it that this seems to only work with a steam wand and not other ways that can whip air into other liquids? I'm guessing that it's because a steam wand will have more pressure and agitation to rapidly infuse the air into the coffee, faster than it can fizz out of solution. I'd be super interesting to see if any other method works to achieve this though.
