@anselmoecheverria63422 жыл бұрын

I really like this song, but it's undeniable that every element of the song is heavily based upon other songs. The chord progression and melody are clearly based on The Beatles' "Dear Prudence," while the percussion, drum sound and strings are clearly derived from " I Am the Walrus." The chorus lifts elements from the instrumental parts and harmonies from Aerosmith's Jamie's Got a Gun." Everyone has influences, but this is far beyond that. Even so, while it is far from an original song, I still really enjoy it.

Does anyone know if this is Mark's last recording (or what was) ? Absolutely beautiful song, I miss him so much
@emerraldx2 жыл бұрын
it is sounding like Mark was extremely prolific the last year of his life somehow in between being in a COVID coma and writing poems and books so I think there is still more to be released but as to the actual chronological order of those recordings, not sure if that information is out there yet but the couple on this new Whigs album were not widely promoted at the time of his death so who knows what other gems wait to be uncovered. I am still extremely torn up over Lanegan’s passing and all the new colabs lately plus talk of him excited to work with any one who asked has me heartbroken for what could have been but then again it will make me treasure these last melody’s all the more 🖤 so long to the Night Porter R.I.P.

This is amazing, and I've heard it on Chicago radio a lot, too. Especially XRT. It's wild to hear, though; I saw them at Metro in 96 or -7, and it was a wild, dark, scary night, and insanely amazing, but kind of menacing vibe. It was a part of what I really liked about their view of things then, and I like the aesthetics of this sound, and hear a lot of their "voices" esp Dulli's, but it's a really different sound. The more I listen though, the more I hear them-writing a soundtrack to a new kind of calculus of horror, beautifully done.

I was at that May 96’ show. The vibe was incredible.

@@krisbecker1004 wasn't it? I love Metro, but it was something very special in the 90s; I feel lucky to have seen so much live music there (and elsewhere, for sure, but it's our cathedral, really, isn't it?). That was an amazing night.
@thedude52955 ай бұрын
XRT baby! Hadn't listened to the radio for probably almost 2 decades but started to listen while working out in my garage around 4 years ago. They were playing this on Q101 a lot in the summer of '22 too, but I had to stop listening to Q101. All they have in their rotation is 20 new songs and a dozen songs from the 90s they just play on repeat. It's like Pearl Jam and Nirvana were the only two bands in the 90s or something. A buddy turned me on to XRT and they just got a fantastic mix without hearing the same songs 3 or 4 times a day. Never listened to the Whigs back in the day, but I do remember the name so I think I had a few friends who were into them back in High School or something. The Getaway really grabbed me whenever it came on the radio. Didn't mind Q101's crappy selection when it meant I heard this 3 times in 8 hours.
