Trading can definitely be worthwhile. I saw who we missed out on in the Kelly deal. I think it was Sharpe Cooper and some other player. But we got Bazzo Ledwards and Kelly. David King said on SEN that he still would have done the Kelly deal.

The owners of Eagles is WA footy commission. Eagles pay a proportion of profit to footy commission so that junior development and WA footy can be funded. Would the WA footy commission then agree to a $7m reduction in profits leading to a large loss? That could impact several year royalty payments, and WA footy junior development could totally dry up.

I think pick 1 is win win, any wce fans out there be upset if we just use pick 1 on Reid? Or getting 3 picks in the top 10 or so would be awesome too, I'd be happy either way to be fair. On gaff, I'm thinking currently, it would almost be worth us paying the bulk of his salary to play elsewhere. Otherwise tell him he is a wafl eagle now and his role is to help develop the kids. I was always a fan and defender for Gaff but man...he's making hard at the moment haha

We won't get 3 in the top 10. We may get one in top 5, then another from 6 to 12 and a third later in the first round. Eagles would probably accept that.

Do you think GWS would give up their three top 8 picks (as it currently stands) to get Harley Reid? I think you might need to set your sights lower. As a North supporter I wouldn't like it if North gave up the #2 pick and the late first round pick (from Port), along with next year's first rounder. I'm not buying into the band 1 compensation if McKay leaves on a free trade because he isn't that good. That is too much in return for even a gun player from my North perspective. West Coast also needs to consider that Reid could leave after two years if the Eagles are bottom dwellers for those two years, which is a distinct possibility.

I have always thought the Swans have drafted well out of WA. Warners Mcdonald Buller Sheldrick. Is there a possibility of any homesickness and you guys giving Buller a spot in the forward line and giving away a future second/third to bring him across as he has kicked 8.7 in his two VFL games? Don't think with your need to draft that you can pick up Warners or Mcdonald. Also with what I mentioned about Buller could you give Sheldrick a starting spot in that midfield and give him the keys as he looks like a gun however Sydney I am guessing would want probably more than just a first for him which just isn't feasible for the Eagles atm. I kinda feel sorry for the Eagles and was just throwing out some options from the Swans.

As a Cats fan, we should definitely try for Pick 1, even tho we wont. I think we’ll finish between 6-10 (Pick 8-12) mind-you we have a future first, and Esava Ratugolea leaving to either BL or PTA would command a future first (neither side have a 2023 1st Rd Pick). He also fits the Geelong profile perfectly, Cats fan from Tongala/Bendigo (I.E Joel Selwood), has long blonde hair with a headband (90% of our team 😂) and he bring thats arrogance and sheer talent, that “Im Him” mentality. So a trade could look like this: GEE get: Pick 1, Future Second WCE get: Cats 2023+2024 1st RD Picks + 2024 1st (Tied to either BL or PTA) Very juicy trade and we’d set up a perfect midfield for the next decade. Harley Reid, Tanner Bruhn, Toby Conway, Max Holmes, Mitch Knevitt, Jack Bowes, Jhye Clark (c). Although I don’t think we’d do this as I reckon we want Ben King.

Eagles need to go all out with youth, in particular pace and hardness in the mid field. From 2021 to 2026 we have the chance of five years of early picks to gather a complete side. In short term certainly young runners. Eagles could consider bringing in some experience guys in the mid 20s in. Basically to provide strength, contested ball winners, and leadership. Hopefully, you'd go for free agency or a late draft pick in the 60s. But Eagles would have to be sure of their hardness and their leadership/example setting. .Lastly, consider guys like Robertson of Brisbane. But Eagles need to be sure they'll be good enough to fit straight in and offer something. If you're giving up draft picks then those guys had better be pretty young.

Eagles have often done badly on contested possessions, but then they've been given a rocket from the papers and they pulled it together. But even then you had Yeo Shuey and Redden playing consistently. But not anymore. Also a recent paper article said that in the Swans match the guys Yeo Shuey and Kelly in the middle were actually quite good with the contested possession, it was just the others that were particularly bad. So people say that the Eagles had all their best midfielders in. But it was not a problem with those three midfielders, it was the other guys that were shocking. Complete lack of talent and resilience. Also, apparently in the centre clearances they were good enough in contested possession. But it was elsewhere around the ground that contested possessions were at record lows.

I am waiting (and hoping) that some team, such as the Eagles will ignore the football department cap. It is only a soft cap with a financial penalty. The Eagles are well resourced, they could break the cap. If they hired an extra 2 assistant coaches and considered it a $2 million investemet over three years ($150k/year for an assistant ?) then they would at least see if that could make a difference. The expectation is that it would improve them, that is the reason for the cap in the first place, to stop advantages being gained by richer clubs. If it shows results then it will pay for itself in membership numbers and ticket sales anyway. Supporters would rightfully see sacking the coach as terrible financially, I think they would be much happier seeing a positive, maybe bold move.

Teams would want to be very carefull how they handle Harley Reid if they are going to give up a lot for him. Even if the kid has his head screwed on, that is a lot of pressure to put on any 18 year old on top of the expectation that comes being pick one. If he has a quiet few games, there will be media stories asking if the deal was worthwhile, supporters will be expecting him to be a matchwinner from day 1. I hope the kid thrives on the pressure because it is coming, how much comes could be hard to control if a team gives up multiple top 10 picks for him.
@spindoctor6385

Things are rarely as bad as they seem. Sure the results look terrible at the moment but it only takes a team to be off by a few percent to get beaten, 10% off and it is going to be a 10+ goal defeat. If everybody is working hard and giving their all (only they know that) then things can turn around pretty quickly. They are getting games into young guys, that should serve them well in the medium term. They won't win a flag in the next three years but neither will at least 14 other teams. If there has to be changes of personell, then they should be looking at the fitness guys, or sports science or whatever they want to call themselves.

Mate I gotta say, media is definitely getting on my nerve. Maybe it’s because I’m bias but we are in an unwinnable situation. Our gamble on Tim Kelly didn’t work (but it’s something we had to do, unfortunately had to overpay) and we have got so many injuries that we can sometimes not even have a full team with an emergency list. We are basically drug saga bombers right now. The difference between our last 5 years and Geelongs is they’ve had a star player wanting to go home and thus replacing the capital they gave up to eventually get their star, not a ridiculous injury list and don’t have a team like Gold Coast gifting us high draft picks every year for a bottle of coke. Not saying we were a premiership side, but we aren’t one of the worst teams ever. We gambled and lost. It happens. Just don’t want the media to act like we are idiots for what’s happened, when a lot of it can’t even be attributed to decisions, it’s just health with about 25-30% poor decisions sprinkled on top.

Elliot yeo, shuey, and Kelly fine all you needed in there was a contesting beast would help. You have no good wings forward line better than some other teams. End of the year go after a key defender to replace hurn trade pick 1 for a ready made mid contested player. And look at some defenders in draft. I don't think west Coast are as far away from back up the ladder than most think just need to make really good decisions in trade time using pick 1 for Harley won't help

Hurn and Shuey have really presented outstanding leadership. Yeo unfortunatley injured again. So its difficult to then trade him out. We would probably get a pick in the 30s for him, but we'd have to pay most of his salary still for two years. They mainly need elite midfielders and get talls like Hedwards back in the side so the young defenders Hedwards, Bazzo Foley can get experience.

Guy McKenna stated a few days go, things aren't going to get much better. Sadly for the Eagles, there is a lot of truth in that, West Coast have to go through the biggest rebuild, I believe that we have seen ever, it will make the rebuild from my team the Adelaide Crows look small in comparison, then we have to take into consideration, that they would have to do it in record time, they effectively have 3 drafts to build an entirely new team with. It isn't just getting the players, it is also the strength and conditioning coach, and a new coaching team to work with Simmo, to get that rebuild underway, unlike how my team is going, the rebuild of West Coast is going to take a lot longer, Because this time around, the culture within the club also needs to be changed, it also means that they have to get rid of practices that put them in this position in the first place.

@@BDub2024 that is on the strength and conditioning staff, which is one of the reasons why the first to fall on his sword was a strength and conditioning coach, there is basically no reason why a significant portion of the injuries on the list is soft tissue injuries, shows that the training regime is complete garbage and needs a major overhaul. then there is list management, which had been neglected over the last couple of years, in favor of making the tough choices.

@@BDub2024 that was before the season started when they had false expectations, mostly to hide the problems that were present, something even Guy McKenna had concerns about, he even pointed out West Coast were going to have problems the longer the season progressed, at least he had hindsight, and low and behold, he wasn't wrong. Something the West Coast supporters deluded themselves with at the start of the season, as well as other footy pundits stating that West Coast at the start of the season was not up to AFL standard. When you point out collision-type injuries which only make up 7 out of the 21, with 8 being soft tissue, what does that say? That is still strength and conditioning, regardless of how you sugarcoat it, especially when players from other teams go through the same collisions every game, and yet come out of those collisions with no problems, maybe it is because West Coast did not train for it in the preseason. The warning signs have been there for years now, and mismanagement has been there for years. Would love to see Naughton, English and Broad on our list, it's all well and good removing senior players from the list and picking up draft picks, but we still need leaders with plenty of experience to guide them on field. Should Hurn retire and Barrass injure himself again we need a stalwart up back and I think Broad would be perfectly suited, out of contract end of year, his wife is from Perth and they have a baby on the way. Naughton would be a great pick up as a second tall up front while Maric is finding his feet, I personally don't see Darling staying on for much longer, and Tim English is a proven ruckman, Williams has shown a lot of growth this season but I don't think he's capable of running the ruck on his own in the foreseeable future, he's a fantastic athlete but he's just lacking in football IQ which will take time to develop. Jamieson still has a long way to go before we see the best in him and having Williams as an additional tall up front or down back could prove useful, and watching the Grundy/Gawn combination at Melbourne this season shows that this dynamic can work.

They might get them free agency and not have to give up anything. Fact is that we need 5 years of early active draft picks. We've had 2 years now. I'd be very cautious about handing away early draft picks. We need guys that will play for 12 years. We also need more skilled midfielders so must priorities that.

English AND Naughton for pick 1? Are you high? Throw in a decent player, not one of your many geriatrics or perpetually injured has beens and next year’s first rounder and then it’s actually a fair trade for the Dogs.

@@ravikro012 But they have to be good or they'll be like Petrovski and Langdon. Is English out of contract? I'd say it depends on how Bulldogs go. But we must retain most of the draft picks as we need young midfielders so desperately.

@@aleco1991 Eagles can't afford to give up draft picks really. They need to bring all young players in. Eagles may get English free agency now or as a free agency in 3 years time. Naughton more likely Freo. Depends on how Bulldogs go and whether they go deep in finals I reckon.

I hate to burst that bubble, but nobody is giving up one good draft pick, let alone multiple picks for Naitanui. He is 33, injury prone and is about 6 years past his best footy. You might be able to upgrade pick 54 to 50 at the back end of some trade if Nick was also thrown into the deal.

You won't get anyone for him. Much of his salary comes under marketing clause, and not salary cap. That wouldn't be helpful for other clubs really. Gall is worth a pick in the 50s. Darling 40s. Sheed 20's or 30s. But in each case Eagles would still be paying their salaries and they'd be playing elsewhere.

We better off keeping Nic at the club as a coach. He already does this so would be a smooth transition.
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 Жыл бұрын
They could consider trading Sheed. He is a receiver and ball user and has value. We could get a draft pick in 20s or 30s and with him the new club would hopefully pay his salary. We need in and under types more now. I'd like to see boys like Chesser Clark and West be given a chance in the middle. Where they've been played this year hasn't really suited them.

Lol 😂 im sorry bro but this is a nuffie take. No trading away pick 1 and not taking harley reid is an idiotic thought. West coast has the best retention rate in the AFL. Not to mention if harley is half as good as they say thats a huuuuge win for west coast also if he wants to leave in 2 years his value would of gone up and thats the time when tassie enters the comp which can give us another win. Yeaaaah nah i wouldnt be trading the pick or harley for anything and dealing with north is laughable. Its generational talent here 2 picks in top 10-15 is what we would need. Super nuffie take man 😂😂😂

I think we need multiple young draft picks. There is no guarantee that Reid will be the best player from the draft. He probably won't be. I think our midfield is a lot weaker than people actually appreciate. But to give pick 1 you'd want something like 4, 9 and 15. The other thing is that Reid is clearly very physically mature and throws his body around and has presence. That won't work as well when you're actually playing against men. So people need to take a breath.

@@jaekenzo64 I am not concerned about retaining Reid as he is a country kid and there will be a lot of kids coming through. We would just need to be showing something by 2026 and get the WAFL sorted. Lets get through to September and see who firms. Remember last year guys like Ben Allen's son came from nowhere despite hardly playing. Time will tell.

I think the eagles should try clear some salary space, tell guys like Kelly, nic nat etc to take a paycut and pay em wat they're truly worth atm and start looking to recruit WA guys at other clubs such naughton georgiades broad and there's a few at lions and GC, ash Johnson etc. U look at a team like port who were down and out there for a few years but some nice drafting and clever recruiting have them sitting in a good position these days. Its a long road back but not all doom and gloom cos the eagles are better than this. Kelly isn't worth wat hes getting paid let's be honest and nor is nic nat , McGovern took a paycut and so should some others. Geelong have bin doing it for over a decade now which is why they're always there abouts come finals time. The players are just greedy and taking the piss i feel. The senior players should be setting the example for the kids coming thru not dishing up wat they do most weeks its like they don't care.
