Scout didn't actually see Tom Jones, he was just there. The whole joke is that they had to re kill him and move the body so Scout wouldn't see him and realize he isn't actually his dad. So this might imply that Scout actually DID go to heaven, or that his personal afterlife/perception of afterlife was affected by events unrelated.

The biggest issues as others commented on is that Scout had no way of knowing Tom Jones had died, and that the Medic uses the pen he bargained with the Devil to trick the classic Heavy. I think the reason why Blutard and Redmond saw nothing was simply because they weren't really dying, they were in a coma state as the machine didn't truly allowed them to die.

Ghost usually mean unfinished business in alot folklore, and considering both Mann Brothers is still at war about what they want it kinda fit. Sniper is most likely an hallucination, since medic tell us outright. Scout most likely died and goes to actual heaven, since there isn't any other factor saying it isn't. On top of god hide the fact that Tom Jones is dead which Scout most likely doesn't know about. The devil does say the medic had committed countless horrific deeds before dying, so it most likely why he was send to hell. I don't think selling his soul mean you instantly goes to hell. And for what he sell his soul for, is most likely arcane knowledge or better medical expertise.

I always assumed Blutarch saying there's 'nothing there' was just refering to the general absence of 'stuff' in purgatory. Administrator (and probably all life extender users) goes to purgatory in issue 7. We know its not Pauling hallucinating because at the end of the issue Administrator comes back to life after being dead for four hours (which is also what she tells pauling in purgatory). I would consider a purgatory where you're trapped forever in a tiny room with a bunch of cameras pointed in at yourself as 'nothing' compared to heaven and hell. Also the reason why Satan can't just drag Medic to hell regardless is because, canonically, his original job had been taken over by the Bominomicon.

this actually still works with Gray Mann saying there's nothing on the other side. He's never THOUGHT about the other side, he never considered what would happen to him after he died, he was always only preoccupied with his life, not his afterlife. so to him, the afterlife being nothing actually works. and the worst part is that now that he's seen that there's nothing after death, he BELIEVES that there's nothing after death, so there's never going to be anything after death for him.

I do not understand why all people claiming the hallucinations theory conveniently skip the most important part. How are the mercs magically coming back to life? Sniper was at least explained, but Scout and Medic went back from the dead without any apparent reason. So again, why do people skip this point? I personally believe that these are not hallucinations.

I like to think that because Medic stole all the mercs' souls, their views of their afterlife are basically like glitches. Sniper's is contradictory to his previously established relationship with his parents because even though he disagreed with them, he still loved them. there's also the fact that he comes back, and is so convinced that he saw what he saw, but Medic doesn't care much because he knows he has his soul. he even says it must have been a hallucination, not explaining, of course, that he has their spuls, so they cant TRULY move on. it would explain why God behaves oddly in Scout's death, and perhaps the real God's "punishment" for the ghosts of the brothers is to continue the curse from their father until they reconcile. perhaps that is their purgatory. Medic with Satan is the only one that people remember so well because it's the only one with stakes. there's tension when the Devil feels cheated, and how Medic's cunning grants him further unnaturally long life. I think all the afterlifes of any merc would be some kind of "glitch (or, as Medic said, hallucination)" in the sense that their seeing fragments of truth and happiness, but because their soul isn't bound to them anymore, the intrinsic good is either never seen (in Scout's case) or merely glimpsed (Sniper's reconciliation with his parents). you are right in the sense that Scout and Sniper's deaths seemed off, and it's because it possesses an attitude of "almost, but not quite," and I attrivute that to not having souls. so, rather fittingly, actually, an afterlife would default to whatever the desires of the person were (for Sniper, something wholesome; for Scout, very conceited). consider it an animalistic default, maybe? tough to attribute a word to it, I'll be honest. let me know if you read this, wanna know what you make of this

Well my theory is that the heaven and hell exist, but we only saw hell. Medic made a pact with a devil, that's why he knew he would meet him. He also stole souls of his teammates and that's the reason why they didn't die, what they saw was hallucinations, because they could get to afterlife, because they lack soul and that's also the reason why medic can revive them. Mann brothers were just cursed by they father or by them selfs, that's why they can go to afterlife before ending the war between them.

My prediction for the final comic; We see the line "Six months later" in the opening shot of the desert, which is likely another nightmare of Miss Pauling. I'm assuming the events taking place will involve the mercs trying to help Saxton take his company back, and likely are involved in a conflict with Charles Darling. We might see some of the history with Saxton and Mags (hopefully), and maybe some closure on Olivia (hopefully). But what I actually expect is that the comic will have the characters frequently mention events we hadn't seen, involving the Administrator who is nowhere to be seen. And later in the comic we get a flashback to the end of Naked and the Dead, where we see what the Administrator does with her one hour of youth, which gives context for a lot of the dialogue and events.

Nice vid! To offer a potential solution to Scout’s afterlife (a bit of a stretch): Perhaps Tom Jones showing up could be interpreted as being less about Tom being dead and more about Tom not recognizing Scout and therefore not being his actual father. If these afterlives are creations of the subconscious, since Scout has been shown to know that Spy is actually his dad (his conversation with Heavy in Blood in the Water, his dream in A Cold Day in Hell, etc.), it could be the dark recesses of Scout’s mind trying to interrupt his mental circlejerk, only for Scout’s God to have it be snapped away before Scout could fully notice. That being said, this is just to fit it in your theory, and it’s what I’ve been running with for the longest time to explain the no souls thing. I have a feeling that the afterlife in TF2, in reality, is just something that absolutely zero thought was put into, just acting how the writers wanted it to act in any possible instance, capped off by the whole “we don’t have souls” thing putting that final nail in the coffin. Also surprised you didn’t bring up Miss Pauling’s afterlife that may or may not be shared with Admin.

1. a popular theory is that all the mercs besides medic go to heaven because medic removed their souls, and sin is tied to the soul. ergo, he has stolen the sins of all other 8 mercs as well, leaving the rest of them free to go to heaven 2. i don't really speak religion but i thought Heaven is supposed to be some kind of perfect world for you. sniper seems to want his parents to understand what he does, with the way he argues over the phone with them in Meet The Sniper - it makes sense then that his heaven would see his parents finally accepting his job, but also being proud of him for it

the respawning thing maybe has to grab the mercs ghost since the mercs technically has a unfinished goal in mind, beating the other team, so maybe the respawn mechanic utilizes the ghosts to its advantage and just revives them, and maybe that's why the sniper had to be forcibly revived by medic since his goal was finished
