Medic could be a Wehrmacht Medic, since not everyone in the German Military back then in it IS a part of "them"- a good chunk of them are, but Wehrmacht is not SS. There are several famous combatants who are brilliant at their fields, but since they refuse to join "them," they end up stuck in their positions until the war ends. Also in terms of Medic never fought The Big One, that can be "He literally never see combat despite being in the military" I mean he used to have a medical lience- which is probably easier to get back then, that means he is mainly appointed to be fixing wounded soldiers instead of shooting guns- I even have a head canon of how Medic become the mann he is now is because his experience in war: Seeing all the death made him snap and he starts to do questionable things to his patients just to fix them...until he just completely lost it.

My headcanon is that he was a part of the Wonderwuffen program , but instead of actually doing the "Moustache Mans" experiments , he just used the resources to run his own weird experiments

"You" referring to the player, as a 20-something in the 2010s having a great-grandfather who was fighting age during WW2 lines up. I guess that makes Medic everyone's great-granddad 2. The Medic's great grandfather fought in a different notable war (the Franco-Prussian war, probably), and Medic didn't fight in WW2

medic is actually pretty strongly implied to be jewish (another commenter gave the specifics), so that already disqualifies him from fighting for germany in ww2, but there are two other possible backstories that could be gleaned from this: 1. medic was already a mad scientist like the rest of his family and just got the hell out of dodge before anything could happen to him (likely escaped to poland, which was pretty common at the time) or 2, which is infinitely more depressing: he was held in one of the camps during the war, which could both serve to explain where he got his methods from and also why he's so insane compared to the other mercs. this could also explain why his bond with heavy is so strong

One of the most telling pieces of evidence AGAINST Medic's affiliation with Nazism is that one of his themes, "Archimedes", is heavily inspired by Jewish Klezmer music. It's pretty dang niche for anyone who a) isn't Jewish themselves or b) hasn't specifically looked into it, but the decision to write the German guy's theme in the style of Ashkenazic folk music was DEFINITELY intentional. Going along with this, I actually think it would be pretty neat if Medic knew Yiddish. Another thing to note; TF2's universe does NOT line up with ours. For all we know, WWII could've been for an entirely different reason. Maybe there wasn't a WWII at all. Who's to say. Anyways this is my Jewish Medic TF2 propaganda and it's infinitely cooler than "har har the german's racist (just like me)!!!!" :/ Disclaimer: I'm not Jewish, and my experience with this is still pretty limited. I might get things wrong, but if you have something related to share I'd be pretty stoked to hear about it.

Personal Head Cannon: Medic did fight in WW2, but his experiments were so sick and twisted that EVERYBODY wanted to kill him. I also personally believe that medics the reason why a certain Austrian painter didn't have a 2nd ball. Probably would have involved an attempted cloning experiment, which was unsuccessful, but helped in the development of the medi gun. Just my personal head cannon.

No timeline issues of 4 generations happening over the span of 20, 30 odd years, no issues of Medic being over 50 in 1968, No promotional item BS (because yes, the CMCC is a promotional item, that's why its optional in genuine quality) which would make sense as now, in the year of 2012 (when the hat was *released* I suppose the word would be) there very well would have been 4 generations since then. 1939 is the year WW2 started.. 1939-2012=73 years. I think the CMCC item description is more talking *directly* to the player rather than talking to/about the medic.
