I get a lot of comments on the subject of Thai relationships and age differences, so I thought I'd ask Chanya what was her thoughts of the matter.

It is certainly a strange world we live in where people who have no connection to a couple, have a lot to complain about when it comes to the age differences in relationships. Right off the bat, I'd first like to add, I really don't give a flying f@#k what people think about the difference in our relationship. It's certainly none of their business to even make a comment about it. Mind you, I thought it would be a good conversation piece that might spark some interesting comments for the channel if I asked what Chanya thought about it from a Thai perspective.

Well said Warren. Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. The older I am getting the less I care about other peoples views. The fact that they can criticise your life is directly a reflection of their own shortcomings and upbringing. A relationship between two consenting adults that is based on love and respect gives no one the right to interfere with their rhetoric.

Too right Anthony! I personally don't see much criticism with our relationship, partly because I don't look like I'm 23 years older than Chanya. I do see the criticize else where but of other couples from their yobbo friends. I do feel that when you move to Asia, you come with one suitcase and leave everything else in the bin. That includes your old friendships as they will simply criticize everything about you simply because they can't deal with someone escaping the rat race.

Good topic Warren. Western women get a lot of flack from western men in Thailand but when the shit hits the fan you will find you will get more support from a western woman than a Thai woman. "No money no honey" is a saying we have heard many times and that is basically how it all works, regardless of the age gap, in Thailand. I live in Australia and to be honest I am shocked at the amount of Thai women who leave their western husbands when they realise they are not "millionaires". If you keep putting out the cash she will love you long time....when the cash starts running low then you will see a totally different woman , sad but true!

There is a lot of truth in what you're saying Alfred, but unlike women in western culture, the Asian women have to resort to some extreme measures to secure the financial necessities of life. Western women simply go to a lawyer and start a litigation when things go sour and they often get 75% of the mans net worth. Asian women don't have that same legal avenue to get blood out of the stone so it is simply "no money no honey" which in my mind is a fair an equitable system. I'm 11 years into this relationship and there is no signs of sour fruit, but that's because we love and respect each other. Yes, I pay my way and I am happy to help out if the situations arise. Mind you, I was always paying when I lived in Australia, I just pay less now - lol

One thing I found good about the age difference was the number of widows you could meet and pick up on because they had married old farangs,I did this a few times when I was running around Thailand between 2001 & 2010,most were 36 years old and 40's,they had married dudes 25 or 30 years older and the guys had dropped dead leaving them a House,Car and 800,000 baht in the bank.These women were sometimes desperate to hook up for just someone to pay the Bills.

I think I might be the exception that makes the rule. I'm only in my late 20s and have been hear for 3 years living with my Mrs and she's older then me. Many western people come over at 50+ and have a partner in there 30s or bigger gaps then that. Love is what matters. As long as everyone is an adult it's ok. Yes I understand that you can get special permission if the woman is very young.

Warren, I respectfully ask that in the future, when you are asking Chanya questions in an outdoor setting, when there is lots of background noise, could you please have some kind of small microphone near her so that we can hear what she is saying, please. If that is not possible, then could you please repeat and translate what she is saying in your own words so that we can understand what she is saying. Because of all of the background noise combined with Chanya's strong accent, I could not hear much of what she said and the very little I could hear, I could not understand. After watching this video, I have no clue what Chanya was saying. I find her to be a very interesting person and I would like to know her opinion on such topics.
