I don't care what anyone says, yes I'm still a big Alissa fan but this is just awesome. I think it maintains that sound they had prior but adds the new dynamics of the new vocalist and it sounds really great! She has an amazing voice too and comparing vocalists is just something that doesn't make sense to do in music, if you expected this to sound identical to the past then you are just living in your own dream world. I think her growls sound close if not even BETTER than they did before she joined and that is saying a lot ^_^ Good job guys, you hit the nail on the head.

Jason Groff Yeah, she needed a bigger challenge and and more diversity. Once Arch Enemy is on tour-pause, I could imagine her doing some stuff with Kamelot and perhaps even Amaranthe or Deals Death. I'm not sure how familiar she is with the guys at Deals Death (she has the contacts though), but her, Elize, and Olof are really good friends, so it's not unlikely.

Dislike Vicky all you want, but some of you claiming this band is dead are ridiculous. The Agonist were on the brink of self-annihilation when Prisoners came out. NOT because it's a bad album, it's one of the best metal records I've heard in a few years, but exactly because it was so damn good. They were never going to be able to top it, Prisoners was almost overly ambitious. At the end of all of the Alissa-related drama, I'm happy she isn't with this band anymore. Sure, she's an amazing vocalist and the guys of Arch Enemy don't deserve to even be standing on the same stage as her (hence why I'm baffled guitar god Jeff Loomis joined them), but this band seems so much happier now. Look at this music video and tell me they're not having fun. Go to a gig and tell me that energy isn't some of the best ones you've felt at a gig in a damn long time. I dare you. All in all, The Agonist has changed their style at the exact right time and it probably was the thing that saved this band. This record is going to top all the others, maybe not because on a technical level, but the energy will be like a breath of fresh air. It will feel and sound like a debut album, in a good way. This band has risen from their ashes.

Karolina Kotwieja I personally think Angela is the single most overrated vocalist in metal today. I much prefer Alissa and even though I don't hold Arch Enemy in a high regard to begin with and think Alissa is too good for them, the best line-up change was indeed done in The Agonist. Very difficult but good move from the guys to want to become a bigger band and thus kick out the ones who see the band as a side-project, even if it is their vocalist of a decade. This allows them to breathe a little, which is great. Vicky is an excellent vocalist for this band and I think that she is even a better fit personality-wise (after seeing the band members interact with each other after a gig, I can say that). So yeah, be thankful that this happened.

Levi Everaerts I can't agree with you that Angela is overrated because she is a very good growler and if not her Alissa wouldn't be now in this band or growler, because as everybody knows she began to scream because of Angela's first with Arch Enemy album Wages of sin. I think Alissa is more overrated actually i've never liked her but i think Angela for sure isn't overrated. Before she left Arch Enemy ordinary metalhead didn't knew about her now after she left band whole world knows about her. But even if most people here thinking she is overrated ok, that's your opinion but without doubt she is very talented and very kind person. Imo overrated are Maria Brink, Alissa, Elyze from Amaranthe and many more. But without doubt i will agree with you that the Agonist has better line up now than Arch Enemy even that Jeff joined there, sry Alissa is ok in live performance but her way of screaming is irrititing, for example songs like Blood on your hands, Enemy within - no! Pity because i know that they won't perform old classic stuff from first three albums because of Alissa's skills. Arch Enemy is my favorite band but imo Vicky is way better than Alissa. Agree with original post, and I think the fact that Alissa had gotten so good technically kinda overshadowed how much better the whole band had been getting since the first album. They're showing now that they have their own "soul", and also proving that the "percentage" of Alissa in previous albums' songwriting maybe wasn't as high as one would think. Simon for one is a beast of a drummer. Totally agree that this is now not just a different band but a "new" band, and i think it's also what it feels like for the members. That being said, being an avid Heartwork-Carcass fan, I'm also happy that lazy-ass Amott finally started writing something decent again (see "On and on" or "Avalanche" from AE's latest album)...be it cause he was fueled by Carcass' new album being great or just cause he got a new singer in the band that made them relevant again, you pick. Sidenote about Angela : she had no clue on how to sing properly, just had a very unique and special voice. She eventually had problems (both related and not to that) and actually had to re-train her voice all over, but in the end couldn't keep up with her previous efforts (especially live) and basically gave up and recruited Alissa. Alissa on the other hand has a completely different background, sang in a choir and so on, and has a level of technique that is frankly un-fucking-believable (and I'm a singer myself) and crushes most of nowadays metal vocalists, be it male or female. Her live performance on March of Mephisto by Kamelot puts Shagrath to shame.

The singer is the ONLY THING which changed and the change was not that radical imo after all, guitar work and riffs remained pretty much the same and I also think that there definitely isn't any band which would sound exactly like the Agonist, if you could gave me one - great i would definitely give that a shot. No offense but I personally think that you just say the classic Belladona/Bush by which i mean start to complain about "Sell out" because of new singer, just for sake of it.

I think it is lame that people are fighting over who is the better vocalist. Should we not be glad that women in Metal and Rock and finally being taken seriously and not only looked at as just eye candy? I am proud of Vicky! It takes a lot of balls to be a new vocalist and I would like to see all the people complaining to sing the way that both of these ladies do! It is not easy and it can be hard on the vocal cords just to make music for us as the fans to enjoy. Grow up please and learn how to have some maturity when it comes to musical understanding. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I just don't understand how people refuse to realize that the band could never get a better replacement for Alissa after she and the Agonist parted ways. And it's really sad to read comments pretty identical to those that Arch Enemy fans been spamming after the first music videos with Alissa, saying she was a disaster and that she killed the band. For some reason I hoped that there were more fans among us who could accept the change and see the good points of it, not hate just because it's not the same. I think the people complaining about this new album just idolize Alissa too much and it's making them biased, so they have to come up with a load of rationalizations for why they aren't feeling the new material as strongly as their old stuff. I don't think the quality of what the Agonist is putting out has fallen at all.

Both Arch Enemy and The Agonist are better now. Neither bands are forcing themselves into their old "heavy for heavy's sake and nothing else" sound they were both so afraid to stray from and have gotten a hundred times better as a result. This is awesome.
