Ever since singer Vicky Psarakis joined the group in 2014, THE AGONIST `s knack for touching melodies became much stronger (just give the lascivious ‘The raven eyes’ a whirl), and flirting with alternative rock turned into a habit. Still, there is enough palpable aggression in the air that discharges in technical death metal solos, beastly growls and massive breakdowns. The reason Cash's version of Hurt is so special is because it completely changes the perspective and meaning of the song just by the fact that it's being sung by a regretful old man close to death. Most covers are just the same song with the same perspective and the same meaning, just a different band's sound. I guess my point is, there are degrees of "making it your own". Playing the same song just in your band's sound is way less powerful than transforming it into something that fits a different time or context. Also.. I guess there is a time and place for trying to sound exactly like the original. For example, The Pink Floyd Experience tries to give you the experience of being at a Pink Floyd concert, because doing it for real is no longer possible. In that context, even playing replica style becomes worthwhile.

@@corythomas4427 I feel like while Disturbed deliver the message of Sound of Silence more intensely, it's still the same story with the same emotions. Maybe you have a different perspective and that's perfectly fair. As for Bad Wolves, their version is less so about Ireland and more so about armed conflict in general. And I guess it ended up being just as much a tribute to Dolores as an anti war song. So the context is different for sure, emotions still very similar though. The best example I can think of besides Hurt is A Perfect Circle's version of Imagine. Lennon's original was hopeful bordering on naive, while APC perform it almost desperately pleading for people to finally listen and act.

I’m gonna be honest, she killed this song. I love her clean vocals more than her screams. I just can’t get into her screams. I wish they did more songs like this with mostly her clean vocals. I loved this band with Alissa, as you know her growls and screams are awesome, but Vicky’s are just not it from my point of view. Although i still do have a few songs from them in my playlist. But keep it going!! I’m sure everyone else can get into all her vocals.

The soul they used to have, the meaning, the power, the difference they used to make. they lost it all when Alissa left these beautiful and same time destroyer and awesome band. I like some songs with Vicki but I only 'feel' the music with Alissa albums. It's all about life, nature, veganism (not a stupid or no sense thing.
