Imagine if for example, you're stuck in a dream world and the only way out is to find a point of light. But if you look away from it (say to fight a monster) it will disappear. So you have to always try and keep your eye on the exit as you figure out how to make it through puzzles and enemies. Would be awesome for a book too.

But instead took 50 people 1 year of writing the story and all the gameplay decisions, but instead of coding they use machine learning to train AI to produce the same result. Is the end result not still art? You could play the AI one and the traditionally coded one and spot literally no difference. But one used machine learning so it's no longer art? I disagree.

Yeah, it is great for creating a certain type of trippy experience, but it won't ever be able to produce a clean game. And also it won't be able to produce all things a game needs (like logic / data-structures / etc.) in real time and holding all of this in memory, because the only thing it is doing - is generating images and videos based on previous things. Why do we need to use a screwdriver to hammer nails if we have, well a hammer? I mean why try to produce visual output for a game using so called "AI", when we can produce it better and more precisely using a good-old game engine.

@WwZa719 күн бұрын
It's impossible to combine them in this way. The only way you can marry them is by real life post-processing over existing game logic, but these AI have no ways of communicating to the game itself, so underlying game logic will have no clue what player actually experiences.
@flare2426 күн бұрын
@WwZa7 Not right now, but there could be a way, if the AI generative features get integrated into the engine itself.
@WwZa76 күн бұрын
@@flare242 But it's physically not possible, not with this kind of AI. It just takes input, things happen in a black box, and outputs a video, nothing more. The input is also so extremely simple, it's just a text. It's literally just a text-to-video AI generator. That's why when you try to pick another item in this "game" it switches to the next one even if it's not what you wanted, because the data they had were misinputs. So it just replicates that. With the CS GO example, sometimes the gun would reload by itself, that's because there was plenty of input data that people frequently reload here, so it mimicks that animation. It cannot connect. It has to go in laters. The game can't reliably read just video information, and it can't correct the AI before it messes up completely. The AI cannot take in any data other then image and text, and some weights like how much randomness you want. So the only way is to layer it, the player inputs, the actual game, the overlaying AI post-processing.

I remember maybe a year ago I was reading about how challenging it was for AI video to maintain continuity from one frame to the next. Now this is demonstrating at least that much (mostly), and the continuity problem has been pushed back to a longer term problem of object permanence for content that is outside the rendered FOV. You compared it to human dreaming, but it reminds me of human babies as they learn first to recognize the same or similar objects, then develop an understanding of object permanence. I could imagine an interim hybrid approach where a much-simplified core game engine may leverage AI post-proc and/or content generation. The engine provides a skeleton, a stable foundation for game mechanics, dev/designer-written rules or universal laws for the game environment -- it provides the permanence that the AI struggles with. Inventory, player actions, interactions with NPCs, basic mechanics for how NPCs and monsters spawn and work. Then as you said, the AI generation layer then fleshes out stuff that the core engine doesn't explicitly spell out. So the game designers would provide some rules and guidelines, and the AI fills in the details. Like designer/engine sets the rule that all ophidian/draconic creatures spawn with slit pupils and scales, cold blooded physiology, etc. Then the AI fills in smaller details like color, horns, behavior, etc each time the player encounters one of these NPCs/monsters. Same goes for core rules for environmental elements like clouds, trees, rocks, etc that the AI then fleshes out.

You can talk with them like you can with ChatGPT, just a bit more refined, more human like, personality based version, not this objectively thinking AI assistant like ChatGPT. And you can build releationships with every npc, they all have memories, a complete life. Ofc there would be events in the game worlds that would somehow shape all the npcs, like a war or epidemic that happened in the past, they would all remember it, but would have a different view on it.

I was not expecting it to be this soon. I hope that these kinds of models can eventually be run on consumer hardware. When testing the model in the link, what I assumed was true which is the input lag. Not from slowness of sending signals but because the AI itself is imagining the movement, and if your looking at something that is not close, you kinda don't move. Its like moving through water. Very dream like. And to be fair people have all types of overarching dream uniqueness. My dreams are much more consistent than this, like this is an instant change when things are away, the doom game has 3 second memory I think, my real dreams are like 5-20 minute changes. Very very consistent. The kind of stuff that many would not believe unless we hang out a lot. Anyway I am getting lost talking, the point is that this is still super cool, very dream like and if it starts to become more like my own dreams I would turn inside out from wonder and amazement. @@thetikijam well you said it yourself, hard to see the potential is not the same as not having potential. The implications of this is game changing. I want to be clear, in no way do any of the developers of this nor many of the viewers think that this is the goal. As you said its like a bad acid trip (although I really like that part as it stands). The reason this is so cool is because it is like a dream. Speaking from experience, I have had 10x more video game experiences in my dreams as in real life. Many of the most amazing ideas I have had for games didn't come from me, it came from my subconscious. This AI stuff is like a peak into that but while being awake. Imagine this, you take a drawing you made, have a program make it look realistic or like a real game, then feed that into the input of the model and out pops some experience that feels like a real game. Now thats years and years away. Right now if you fed that into this model it would either just collapse into minecraft game play or not even make anything recognizable. But these are those first steps. This all being said I can very much understand how if your not familiar with AI stuff and you look at this all you see is a crap version of minecraft. And lacking most of the features too. But you could say the same thing about video games them selves. I remember when minecraft itself first came out, and I wanted it so badly, and I finally got it in the demo version, not even the full game. And I loved it. Then my grandpa came into my room during christmas as I wanted to show him the game, he was so confused and his first question was why would you want to pretend to cut down a tree when you could do it in real life. Now not only have I had years of fun with minecraft, but I have also cut down a tree and built some cool stuff with him with it.

@@SpicyMelonYT I mean their point is reasonable, games are deliberate art, the outputs of an algorithm have very little place in that at a high level. You can look at this and think it's neat, I thought early image diffusion was neat 10 years ago too (honestly would rather look at that than diffusion generated images today) I am sure two decades or so from now this'll be fun to play around with, as it's own thing, but that doesn't mean much for video games, just like large language models have little to do with books.
@SpicyMelonYT22 күн бұрын
@ I don’t know where to begin with your comment. I’m not angry but just very disappointed. You say things that are steeped in opinion but spoken as fact? Like for instance you say that to you, image gen is “neat”. But avoid saying anything about today’s image gen? It’s extreme. Very high quality art. It’s like the difference between a bike and a plane for travel. You also say “two decades” from now but this tech will most likely be that same “bike to plane” improvement in less than a few years. It’s rapid. It accelerates. And then you say that it won’t mean much for video games. But that same logic would have you scoffing at any story in any game. All of them were created, if you can create it not in time scales of years but live. Or even over night. Imagine the potential. Like endless DND games. A craftable dynamic game that emulates the ever changing environment of real life. And you say that LLM’s have little to do with books. But you’re thinking of it all wrong. It’s not supposed to replace books or be better than books, it’s a tool that allows you to bounce off of. In the same way that a painter uses the compressed gasses from a spray can or a sponge dipped in paint to make different patterns, an LLM can do the same. And more. It’s able to simulate complex behaviors. And so many websites and apps are using them to give people something not possible before. The shear number of KZbin videos made of people playing something with real trained ai models and making funny and enjoyable content from it is not something you can just pretend isn’t there because you don’t like it. Look honestly I’ve had the conversation at least a hundred times now in different ways with different people. And the common link between you all is a lack of wonder. A deep miss understanding of what already is and what can be. And no matter what words I, or anyone else use it just won’t actually change your mind. With all that can exist and with all the potential of life, you decide to say “no”. 🤦♂️

It's really stupid and incoherent not like the doom game because minecradt literally has no fixed layout.

Its not dreaming, the term us hallucinations. I thought you were studying this but you sound like your just seeing this for the first time 😅 Not sure but, this seems to be same as the stable doomfusion? Basically your 'prediction', which is just basic A then B is way behind. 😅. The prediction is actually that in the future there will be no code or coding as it can be fully generated. Same with movies and video. Not sure where it all goes? But its exciting the level of depth and detail that could be attained jn the future.

It's like in a dream, I hope it doesn't actually suddenly wake up into consciousness. Edit you said it a dream 20 secs after I writ this. I can see your point once you give rules to follow it could become a powerful auto creating tool.
