every time i listen to this song i just marvel at it. the message. the pain. the instruments. i love it. no refrain. no verses. just a story that builds and builds and builds till it peaks then fades out. most unique and amazing song ive ever heard.

Crescendo, yes. Crescendo of unexplainable emotional stress, panic, and desperation to regain what was right in front of you and now you are about to lose. “The world is falling around you”...💔

This reminds me of that feeling at 2am, when you're walking home, cold and alone. You went out chasing a dream, trusting in the chaos... And that dream wasn't to be yours. Who among us hasn't tasted that somber moment.

I think what makes this song amazing is a lot more that just raw unaltered vocals and instrumentals. They work extremely well with this song, but it's how this song can communicate emotion so effectively that makes me listen to it. And that communication of emotion is what makes songs amazing, regardless of medium.

This is so freaking good. For some reason the line "Sometime around midnight" popped into my head today and I couldn’t place it. And here I am... back to being 17 again, crying my eyes out. This song is so full of raw emotion. Even the acoustic version on Spotify isn’t this good. I wish I could have this audio on its own.

For the Lovesick and Regretful...... When someone takes this kind of hold on you, no amount of time or distance will ever change how you feel...it just helps bury it so it’s not so fresh or painful. All I can say is if you feel like he/she is gone, run towards anything good and never, EVER, grab a shovel (FB creeping, looking at old photos, reading those old love letters you kept for God only knows what)! He/she will always have that part of your SOUL...... No two ways about it.
@hyethga
@hyethga 4 жыл бұрын
I second this. Reading old texts and photos will only prevent you from moving on forward and recovering. Find time to be with friends, take walks outside, and find the optimism that someone good is there just off the horizon.

The moment I heard this song, and every time I've heard it ever since, I am transported back to the days of my youth, the early 80s, fresh out of the Navy, 21 years of age with all of life's endless opportunities stretching out ahead of us in all its fullness, in college and dating a prima ballerina, Tina, one of the most wondrous creations with which God ever graced this Earth. You are so right. Even though its been nearly 40 years, no amount of time or distance will ever mitigate or ameliorate the pain of our parting....or the magic of our time together. Those long, dark, cold winter nights when I stared deeply, into her hazel eyes over a flickering candle, her long blonde hair cascading down over her shoulders, her lithesome, shadowy silhouette dancing mischievously on the wall, her natural grace and spiritual beauty haunt me to this day. Yes, she will ALWAYS be a part of my soul, a contributor to my life's existence and who I am.

And it starts Sometime around midnight Or at least that's when you lose yourself For a minute or two As you stand Under the bar lights And the band plays some song about forgetting yourself for a while And the piano's this melancholy soundtrack to her smile And that white dress she's wearing, you haven't seen her For a while But you know That she's watching She's laughing, she's turning She's holding her tonic like a cross The room suddenly spinning, she walks up and asks how you are So you can smell her perfume You can see her lying naked in your arms And so there's a change In your emotions And all of these memories come rushing like feral waves to your mind Of the curl of your bodies, like two perfect circles entwined And you feel hopeless, and homeless, and lost in the haze of the wine Then she leaves With someone you don't know But she makes sure you saw her, she looks right at you and bolts As she walks out the door Your blood boiling, your stomach in ropes And then your friends say "What is it? You look like you've seen a ghost." Then you walk Under the streetlights And you're too drunk to notice that everyone is staring at you You just don't care what you look like The world is falling around you You just have to see her You just have to see her You just have to see her You just have to see her You just have to see her You know that she'll break you in two
