Welcome back Akira Bike Project fans! In this video I finally get a rolling chassis, launch an unsuccessful Kickstarter, and get an amazing job opportunity on the other side of the country! Designing and building a fully functional high performance recumbent / feet forward motorcycle inspired by Kaneda's ride in Akira.

So sad the Kickstarter failed back in the day. Had i any extra cash at the time, i would have contributed for sure.. you could consider a gofundme in the future. Especially if it's understood that this project MIGHT eventually lead to something manufacturable as more than a (albeit incredibly cool) one off experiment.

Yup, that sucked, lol. To be fair I did a bad job marketing it, my first video was terrible, and Kickstarter was still a very new platform and was mostly for artists like musicians and painters, but I definitely appreciate the willingness to have contributed. The patreon is certainly helping to accelerate the project, and I could always get it sped up more of course. I will definitely be exploring some large scale fundraising again, but I'm going to wait until the vehicle is at least in Phase II or Phase III to really get it's potential demonstrated. The amount of people that will back a demonstrated viable product far exceeds the ones that will back the effort to make a prototype. The thing that sucks about the fundraising platforms is you can't offer shares or treat it like an investment, this is to get around all the SEC laws. It's such a shame you can blow your money at a casino, but can't invest in a local business or startup unless you are an 'accredited investor' networth 1MM+ through a PPO or IPO in the US. Some of the platforms like startengine now offer crowdfunding equity investments but there is still a major legal hurdle involved - but that may be an option!

just an opinion, I reckon everything will be much easier with the engine and other electronics if it was made using an electric motor rather than an internal combustion engine

Electrics have their own challenges and each have advantages and disadvantages, I don't have any plans to shift to an electric mid build here but I do plan on developing and offering an all electric version in the future!
