Unfortunately she didn't love him as much . Didn't want to have his children,never wore the wedding ring he bought her, didn't take his name. If Alan was in her place he would have done all of the above for her . But the greatest disrespect to his memory was publishing his private diaries. There have been unfounded rumors about his sexual orientation that arose from a specific entry about his movie "Dark Harbor". Nobody had noticed the kissing scene between Alan and Norman Reedus until they read that specific entry in the diaries and started to talk about a man with a double life, when there is no evidence of that. All because of the diaries. Even if Alan intended to have them published,it should have been his decision when to do it and what to put in it,not someone else's.

I have followed Alan 's film work and also his theater work since I was very young . My two oldest children grew up watching Harry Potter and growing up with it. I live in Italy and have often stayed in the same village where Alan and Rima had (but I believe it is still owned by Rima) a big house. Alan loved coming to this place and was often in the small square with his tablet, sitting at a table..very discreet..you could meet him and for him it was as if there was no difference.he was very humble. I myself also saw it at the Roman theater in Volterra in 2010. helpful and very attentive ..loved Shakespeare even acted in Italian. He was a very lovable person and very funny. I can say this because, at times, in the little square he would tell anecdotes to friends and I would indirectly listen from my table. No one disturbed him, we all respected him and his privacy. his death shocked me .. too premature, but I had the opportunity to give a small gift to this great actor: two days after his death, my third child was born, I named him Alan .. in honor of him, and in remembrance of him.

Without my contact in my good eye. I can only see clearly an inch from my nose. This eye does aches. I am registered with the blind association of America. Thus, I am aloud to get talking books from the Library for the blind. Years ago my mum purchased from a books some audio books. Funnily enough, I was listening to one of the books already. I thought I would listen to the audio. That way I could return the blind book to the library. I started the audio from the beginning. It didn't take long for me to notice that something was wrong. The whole book was not being read. Chucks were missing. I looked at the package and there was a number to call. Besides being very rude and down right nasty. I was told that they cut out things they deem unimportant in the book. I refuse to buy audio books. This may or may not be the reason you can't find it. It is merely my experience. I wish I could be of more help.

She proved that she didn't love him at all . Denied him kids and a dog. Never wore his wedding ring or took his name. They could have adopted a child if she wasn't able to carry one but she didn't want to share him with anyone,not even with a dog. He would have been happier and healthier if he had a family to come home to,but he continued to work on project after project until his death . The biggest insult to his memory was publishing his private diaries without his consent. The editor confirms that in the foreword. Plus his godson Tom Burke states in the Guardian's interview that Alan wouldn't write a memoir because as he said "I know myself and I 'm not interested". That book caused a lot of his fans to make false assumptions about Alan's character and his life, for which he can't defend himself. Alan ALWAYS put his wife's wishes first at the expense of his own and she tarnished his memory. Poor man he got short-handed and he deserved the world.

I miss him so much. I bought the book, it's a little part of him, thanks to his widow to share it with us. No doubt, it was done with his permission. I can’t imagine how much Rima Horton Rickman must miss him. Our love is extraordinary; 50 years imagine! Alan Rickman was a great actor, my favorite actor. He was a really good person. So charismatic, polite and kind to everyone. He’s the reason I watched the Harry Potter movies. 'cause he was in it. (and then I became a fan of HP, especially of cause Snape, the most complex and interesting character what a masterfull interpretation! He deserve more place in HP movies. For me, Alan will be Snape forever , he is irreplaceable ) . My thoughts are with his widow, who must continue without him, it must be so hard for her. That are my thoughts completely. I first saw him in HP and since then followed him more avid than a drug dog! No, I didn't trespass his privacy, but I went to Dublin for Borkman and watched the play he directed in London and so on. And in one direction or another he WAS the love of my life, because I never had the same crush on anybody else. And my husband knew, of course. Alan was the very best and the epitome of intelligence, wit, earnestness and warmth.

@carolyn ellis Wiki has some interesting details about this 1991 Robin Hood film. That Alan kept knocking back the role until they agreed to let him do whatever he wanted with the Sheriff part. And that Kevin Costner, playing Robin, may not have appreciated being acted off the screen by one A. Rickman. I think he may have received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for this role. His acceptance speech mentioned not to underestimate the value in over exaggerating and over-playing your character !😃

Met him at a Q&A in Hollywood for "A Little Chaos" in 2015. It was one of the best days of my life. Yes, Rima and Emma are correct -- he was kind of moody and unapproachable, but he signed my picture of him (which I have framed on my living wall), and he gave me a wonderful smile when I did approach him. Rima is absolutely charming. I've always loved Rima.

I like her, too. And I think she might be a good rolemodel for women, because: I don't have any children either, and she is one of those women who prove that a woman doesn't necessarily need to be a mother in order to be balanced, passionate, caring, calm (in a healthy way) and content. There's a cliche that I'm sometimes told by mothers, that I (39) will someday become bitter and unbalanced if I won't become a mother. They don't even care that it's partly also health problems that caused me to decide not to be a mother. I sometimes think it's rather the continuing derisive words of people like that who might MAKE women like me bitter someday if they are treated like this for long enough 🤷‍♀️

Simply one of the greatest actors ever, a charming person. I had the chance to meet him after a play in London, and he was kind and nice to all there. I'm reading his book and I'm glad his wife gave permission to publish this very private piece of his life. It will keep his memory much alive, together with his brilliant performances. This book is written in such a way that caused a lot of fans to believe he was gay or bi when there is no scandal on him and no evidence that he was . They could have done a kind of documentary about his life instead of publishing his private diaries and exposing him to false assumptions. About 20 years ago, Mr Rickman was a passenger on an Air Canada flight I was working from Calgary to London. I still remember the seat he sat in. Never wanting to bother celebrities onboard, I said nothing, but could barely contain my excitement just hearing his voice. As it was a late departure, he slept all the way across the pond. I tucked a little note on the armrest saying how much I'd admired his role in Sense & Sensibility and signed it 'One of the FAs onboard', hoping he'd read it when he woke. He deplaned in LHR and I was left with a very fond memory of that flight...

@Linda King I don't want to spoil the impact of that distinct and captivating voice for you! Wiki has a surprising paragraph detailing that Alan had some kind of locked jaw when young, producing his slowed pace of speech. And something about a "spastic palate" - that from one of his drama teachers! I knew nothing about Alan's years before the Die Hard film (1988), released when he was already 42. First studying graphic design, then running a business with fellow graduates for a couple of years. Applying to RADA at the age of 24. Supporting himself as a student by working as a theatre dresser for Ralph Richardson and Nigel Hawthorne (names from memory). Now those would have been amazing experiences. I imagine Alan learned alot about clothing, costume and the wearing of it. He definitely had his own stylish personal look. Then Alan joining the board of RADA some twenty five years later, serving as Vice Chair and on various committees. So he definitely believed in giving back to support the next generations. Anyway ... an interesting read.

I saw him playing the part of Jaques in Shakespeare's As You Like It at the RSC way back in the late 1970's I think it was. And then Hamlet at the Riverside Studios early 1990's. Then I watched him in Robin Hood, and laughed so much. He was an amazing actor. Gone but never forgotten.

I saw him in Seminar. There were so many people getting autographs after the show! He was so patient, signed everyone 's programs, posed for pictures. He didn't do a lot of talking but he did make sure to make some type of contact with everyone there --and he was there a long time. He showed great respect for his audience.

"Truly Madly Deeply" was such a great film and Ala'ns performance was masterful!!!! I have looked all over for a DVD but never found one to this day...sadly ...I miss his acting sooo much..saw every film and listened to all his readings ..Alan was a most superior gifted actor who will be remembered forever! Got his book. The only part I read was the foreword. Publisher Alan Taylor says they don't know whether Alan wanted his diaries published or not. At that moment I knew I had to put the book back in its case. He was a private man he wouldn't want it and his wife shouldn't have disrespected him . He honored her his entire life and was always committed to her.

People who write diaries and don’t destroy them want them to be their legacy. His wife Rima told Neil Pearson who found a publisher for the diaries that ‘Alan would have wanted them published’. His family and close friends supported the publication of the diaries and no one has spoken out against the publication. His wife knew him better than anyone and loved him deeply. If you personally don’t support the diaries then don’t read them but it’s wrong to blame Rima for this. She hasn’t disrespected him at all. There’s absolutely nothing in those diaries that harms Alan’s character or reputation.

Smart enough to get the opportunity to draw attention on herself by publishing Alan's diaries without his consent. That is stated in the diaries foreword. Moreover, Alan's godson Tom Burke affirms that Alan would never write a memoir. That's in his interview for the Guardian. The book did more damage to his reputation than good. A lot of his fans made false assumptions about Alan's character and sexuality, for which he can't defend himself .

If you have the book there's a note by publisher Alan Taylor in the foreword. He says that it's not clear whether Alan wanted his diaries published or not. Rima herself said that she wouldn't have thought of a finest editor than him,and by the way,she sold the rights of that book to the publishing house. That means they could collect the rest of the entries and publish another book in the future,in which they can add or remove anything they like,even fabricate spicy stories to attract new readers. As for Tom Burke's interview,he wrote that his mother asked Alan if he intended to write a book in the future and he said "No, I know myself and I am not interested". There's also another book by Maureen Paton, Alan's unauthorized biography, which Alan did not collaborate on. The author collected sources from people who either knew Alan in person or worked with him, including Alan's close friend and director Peter Barnes. Another proof that Alan didn't want his diaries published, if he didn't collaborate on Maureen Paton 's book why would he write his own? Alan should have been the only one to decide when to publish his diaries and what to include in them,not someone else. Rima knew him for 50 years she knew how private man he was to do such a thing to him just because he's gone. He left her millions. She should have donated some of that money to fund pancreatic cancer research, plus the money she got from selling his property. If she only asked for people's financial support for that cause everyone would have offered money without her publishing Alan's private diaries. How can you do that to a loved one without their consent?

This podcast was uploaded 4 months ago and the allegation that Alan wanted his diaries destroyed has appeared nowhere else. If there was any grain of truth to it then the mainstream tabloids would be all over it by now - that hasn’t happened. TMZ specialise in crass celebrity gossip and take story tips from anyone. They haven’t backed up their allegations with any source or contacted representatives of Alan’s family, Rima Horton or the publishers for comment. They get away with this because they are not part of the mainstream media. Dead celebrities are like cannon fodder for them - they don’t care about the truth. The diaries have been edited very respectfully. If you don’t like them or disagree with them - don’t read them. To choose to embark on a two year campaign of hate, misinformation, blatant lies and disgusting allegations (not just about the diaries either) against Rima is obsessional, toxic trolling behavior. It is not anyone’s business to make any sort of judgment against Rima about the diaries, her relationship with Alan or anything else. The Maureen Paton book was a hatchet job, poorly edited, full of errors and very badly written. It’s no wonder Alan hated it. At least the diaries are Alan’s own words. I don’t know why or how anybody would make any assumptions about his sexuality - I certainly didn’t and it looks like the majority of commenters on here didn’t either. Or why you would make negative accusations or assumptions about his relationship with Rima either unless you had a jealous agenda against her. The diaries really don’t reveal that much and they would have been heavily edited so the really private stuff would of course, not be included. There is no way Rima would have gone ahead with having them published if Alan hadn’t approved of it in some way (or his brothers and sister for that matter). Neal Pearson the book dealer (and actor) who found a publisher for the diaries in response to being asked whether Alan would have wanted them published said : “I’m certain that he would because Rima is certain that he would…and I was very happy to go along with her on that basis.” Rima was his soulmate and most of the sensible, mature comments on here support and recognise that.
