There's nothing wrong with being experimental as an artist, that's how music evolves and new genres/subgenres/styles are created. We need to be able to classify music though, at the end of the day if what an artist makes leans more towards a particular genre more than it does to Hip-Hop then it no longer falls under Hip-Hop. It's like when Lil Wayne released Rebirth, he released it as a Rock album instead of Hip-Hop because the sound leaned more to the Rock side.

Ish: "Put out a better project" 😂 Grip (new Atlanta artist signed to Shady Records) literally put out a project better than this album and 90% of rap albums that came out this year. Nothing against Uzi, much success to him but quality has nothing to do with success in Hip-Hop these days, there's several rap artists putting out great projects that's falling under the radar and not doing big numbers. It has nothing to do with the quality of the music, it's the audience that's choosing to ignore it and look over it because they choose to value different things in music while the industry is just marketing/promoting what the audience values to profit off of it. People don't care about real rappers or real bars anymore because otherwise Black Thought's new album would be going platinum but instead people choose to listen to Uzi 🤷🏾‍♂️

Yea it’s hard for MC’s. Unfortunately they would have to push the “Rap” product if they want the mainstream attention. Basically push the “Rap” product means..Write BS, wear BS, associate with BS in order to stay “Trendy”. There’s MC’s (Kendrick, Cole) & then there’s “rappers”(those who are about sales & trends as opposed to the art.)

Hip Hop is a CULTURE. A subset of black culture. Hip Hop is Dance, Fashion, Dj, Graffiti, MC. In 2023 “Rap” or “Rappers” are a PRODUCT. MC is the art (Kendrick or j.cole). Yes “Rap” can evolve or devolved but Hip Hop isn’t going anywhere.

I didn't say Hip Hop would cease to exist. It just would no longer be a mainstream genre. It would return to it's cultural roots. It happened to Jazz. It happened to the Blues. When Rhythm and Blues morphed into Country & Western and Rock n Roll. It was a wrap.

My point exactly i don’t think a lot of these “rockstars” know how talented you have to be to be a rockstar. That’s like saying you an mvp and you just barely good enough to ride the bench. Kanye is more of a rockstar than any of these dudes because he actually understands music.

@@CHerbo773 That's literally what you just said but I don't think you have a problem, I just think you don't know what you're talking about. Hip Hop is the combination of everything specific for 2 reasons: - it's heavily predicated on samples of past music and past genres. - as the most recent musical genre that is a "base" genre and not just just an alternative/extension of one That means it's the only genre with the position to take from every other genre before it. Country can't be a combination of everything. It's too many other genres have come after it. There's no hip hop in country because country music singers they'd be copying something that came after them, not before.

He’s had really good albums. There’s a lot of artists that say a lot of nothing in their music. Uzis nothing sounds better than most of them. He’s not a lyricist, nor does he have to be. There’s more than one type of hip hop artist nowadays. Hip hop is no longer just about rap artists and djs, and that’s okay. The issue is the over saturation of non rappers and them constantly being labeled as rappers when they either only do it part time or don’t do it at all. Use inhibits the fashion, the persona, the cadence, flows, performance, break dancing, etc. it’s just that the actually content itself isn’t always rap based or rap influenced. Same with young thug, juice world, xxxtentacion, Drake, etc.

What young black people don't understand is Blues and Soul influenced Rock. Black people pioneered the Blues, Soul, Rock and Roll, and Hip Hop. It's not uncool to like Rock or be influenced by it, it's in our lifeblood. Also just because it originated with Black people doesn't mean we own it. Music is universal, and it's about what moves you, not what your friends or people on Instagram are listening to.

Personally I’m tired of artists black and white blowing up off Hip Hop then they suddenly cross over and they see 20k fans at a stadium and suddenly they forget about the streets and the culture and now you wanna be a Rock star? That’s the beginning of the end of your legacy. Then when you need a hit to save your career you’re gonna be rapping again. Watch

Uzi inhibits the fashion, the persona, the cadence, flows, performance, break dancing, etc. it’s just that the actually content itself isn’t always rap based or rap influenced. Same with young thug, juice world, xxxtentacion, Drake, etc. can uzi be considered a rapper? Technically yes because he raps. What he raps about is a whole other story but he indeed raps. But I’d put a broader label on him as being a hip hop artists instead of solely labeling him a rapper. But until we can invent another term to define the difference between true mcs and whatever we want to classify these alternative hip hop artists like uzi as, they will continue to be labeled as rappers.

@@adrean3693and it has evolved since then to more. What sport can u think of that stick to its original rules and standards that has survived the test of time? Math and science change everyday. Technology as well. Everything changes. Hip hop is no different. New segments have been added and implemented into the culture. Things are not one dimensional anymore. Whether that’s good or bad is up to interpretation. But that’s just how evolution works. U take the good AND the bad of the gene pool change.
