I love the notion of Spirit of the Place that reoccurs in the Quartet, The Sheltering Sky and the Mexican novel Pedro Páramo. Excellent job reviewing the Quartet.

@@tutordual9267 Thank you! I haven't heard of Pedro Pàramo - I think that's something I'll be keeping an eye out for in the future.

I finished Justine this week. The writing was stunning. I think you used the word lush and I would agree with that. I already have the next three books and hope to get through the full quartet in the next couple of months.

“Short, fleeting fragments of experience.” I love that. It’s been a fun ride-along as you navigated your way through the quartet. I agree, the books are difficult to synopsize, but you’ve done a fine job. Speaking of surreal and sometimes nightmarish, wondering if you’ve read Paul Bowles’ 1949 novel, The Sheltering Sky, set in North Africa after the war.

@@patriciah8579 Thank you, Patricia! No, I don't think I've heard of The Sheltering Sky, although Bowles' name rings a bell. It's going down on my list!

I haven't read any Lawrence Durrell, thanks for the recommendation, must get onto it. Geez, Faber & Faber are a powerhouse, aren't they?
