Sharky 3 is easier to purchase. Kodiaks are being discontinued but are still available through some outlets.

@@KastKing Is the Sharky III Gold still in production? I don't see it on the Kastking page, in the presentation of their reels. If not, you have to look for it separately. The Sharky III Gold has the K.I.S.S? No water intrusion system. What advantage do I have, compared to the normal Sharky III? just the aluminum body and rotor? or is it more resistant to salt water and has better internal components? Is it worth paying more for the Gold? Thanks for your attention.

Ultralite fisherman here please ask KastKing to make a 1000 or 500 size. Most of my current spinning reels weigh 7.5 ounces to 6.0 ounces most of my rods weigh 4 ounces to 3 ounces even. My reels hold 125 yrds of 4lb mono. Rods measure 5'6" Ultralite action my fav is a 2 Pc Fenwick HMX titanium carbide guides.

Hi there they are two great spinning reels. The baitfeeder is more for using live or dead bait. The regular Sharky III is a more universal reel.

Is there a size suitable for panfish/trout? I have the kastking sharky 2 in 1500 size on a light rod for my panfish/trout setup and would love to have the new sharky 3 but i think 2000 might be a bit large?

Check out the Mela II 1000 for smaller fish. Right now the Sharky III doesn't come smaller than a 2000.

It is stronger than Sharky 2? Mine broke at the second use. The right bearing (the smallest) of the crank broke ... I changed it but there is still movement and the reel is not smooth at all ... It is unusable except for small fish.

Please, would like your suggestion/opinion. I am looking for a spinning reel for weekend surf and SUP fishing (ocean), and I was thinking about the Sharky III 5000 with a 7" rod (for SUP) and with a 9-11" rod (for surf) + braided 20LBS/0.18mm. Thanks

Hi there! Those sound like great setups. Maybe consider a longer rod for surf fishing. You really need a super long rod to launch the heavy rigs past the breakers.
