Thx for the review z. I ended up getting a dx7 pro from your original review instead of a 789 with a dac cause I wanted 1 box and I got a really good price on it. Looks like a good upgrade but I wouldn't be able to tell so keeping mine for the foreseeable future. I feature I love is a auto on off from the usb. Turns on and off when I power my pc up.

I have a DX7 pro and I love it. It is practically flawless. The built-in headphone amplifier is very good, but I prefer to use the Neve to drive my Sennheiser HD800S's. The DAC is very good indeed.

For me the biggest drawback to the $700 price tag is Toppings track record of reliability of late. Too many failures across a broad range of products. PA5 is a disaster, Josh Valours A90 shorts out on the 6.3mm input, iiwi reviews DX5 died. Was in my local store yesterday and was looking at the DX5, salesman told me I couldn't listen to it because it keeps dropping out. Personally I've had to send back 3 items due to reliability issues. Seems too risky when spending $700.

There should be precise failure condition report if happened. Otherwise it`s impossible to judge if it could be kind user fault failure. I`m using A90 for more then 2 years with no issues.

Z had such a unique and brilliant mind. Let's see some out of the box meta-review of headphone tiers a la Zeos. The reason Oluv reviews is so clever is that he's telling people you can use $50 headphones and equalize them. No amps required. I feel Zeos has some genius in him that isn't being developed or brought out in these one off reviews. More tiers and more separation. I feel Z has such a good heart he always tries to find the best aspect of everything he reviews. Perhaps that is his genius.

Does the DX7 Pro+ support MQA ? They don't mention it anywhere and I find it really weird as DX5 supports it. It is super annoying that something with "Pro" and "+" in the name has actually fewer features. I think it should have been there for the price.

@@JTB-- It doesn't have a robust preamp unfortunately. The Topping preamp is slightly better in my opinion. Also, there is no Bluetooth. I think the sound is better on Fiio K9 Pro Ess. Just my opinion.

My Brain hit a wall. I feel like the amp section of this is not as "fun" as the K9 specifically the ESS. Dac outputs is a fight of wills. You get this for the Remote Control and more output settings. I am hard pressed to legit pick a favorite.

We 100% hit a wall on progression BUT, I do see the future. DAC's/Mixers that implement AI for artificial channel separation, sound stage, resolution upscaling (We have this for graphics, why not audio?), sound coloring, etc. based off instrument/frequency recognition.

Hi Zeos. Could you look at doing a review of the Final VR3000 IEM? I got them last week and I am enjoying them. They curbstomp my HE400se and SHP9600 for competitive gaming. The imaging and soundstage for an IEM is spectacular. Perhaps it can have a spot in an upcoming game fidelity video?

On high sensitivity IEMs it is normal. You would need super sensitive headphones to hear on them or else something borked.

The DX7 has upgraded DAC and two pro grade inputs in form of IIS and AES. I feel the DX5 is more of a desktop use all-in-one while the DX7 Pro+ is meant to be at the center of a slightly more audiophillish kinda system.

I have an Apogee Duet 2 and Adams 7's speakers. I really want to upgrade. Can I run the XLR output of the DX 70 to the speakers and the use the volume, independently of the software volume or do I need to get another DAC unit for the DX70+ to use the volume and how would I connect them both (XLR or RCA)?. I approve of taking random products and throwing TH-900's in the thumbnail. PS - Those in the know are aware that Fostex use the same style of connector as the Sennheiser headphones, but with the polarity reversed. Periapt was the first place that I found that actually makes cables wired properly for the TH-900. PSS - I thought Zeos was back to filming in 16:9. Did he hit the wrong button on the GoPro? The housing of the camera lens is noticeable in the corners because he moves his head around so much.

This should not exist, at least not at $700, when the Hifiman EF-400 is much better and available at $600, it also has a R2R DAC, I am bit surprised why EF400 is not yet reviewed by many reviewers. Output power is also not much high @ 1.9W, 32ohm, same as DX5, which again is same DX3 Pro+ (although slightly inferior DAC) and cost only $200.
