the CJRB Maileah used to be my go-to recommendation. Its fantastic, and insanely affordable. It has just been outclassed lately, which just goes to show the quality of the small knife / budget knife revolution we are seeing these past 2-3 years. Banger after Banger, Pyrites, Sheepdogs, Banters, etc. The maileah is great, which goes to show how much we are now getting spoiled

Nice list. I carry a mini Pyrite (aluminum frag) in my fifth pocket and find myself reaching for it more than my main carry. I like the mini Pyrite so much, I’m giving them out as Christmas presents.

I have both the Nightshade and Sheepdog. I couldn't agree more about the Nightshade, totally under rated! I think its pretty perfect (I did find the pocket clip screws to be on the soft side). The Sheepdog I love the looks and action but it is unnessicarly heavey with full steel liners and it did not fit my large size hand well at all, finger choil was tiny so I dremeled it out further by about 1/4" so it's okay now.

My 5th pocket edc is a Spyderco Mcbee customized by Mcnees with with frag grip, green annodization, bronze pocket clip and jimping added to the spine. Recently I picked up a CRKT minnow and its taken over my front pocket a few times but its a bit bulkier than the Spyderco and illegal in one of the states i visit some family often because its an automatic, so it hasnt really replaced it completely.

Not sure if you would consider the bestech Lito a fifth pocket carry, but if so, that would be my number one choice for the year. I'm not a huge fan of many small knives, but that one is absolutely incredible

Hi Wayne, I always love to watch best of lists and as a fan of small knives I was in particularly interested. Additional candidates for your list from my point of view would be the Kizer Lieb (for low price & best flipper action), Kansept Mini Goblin (for design, ergos and materials) and from Spyderco maybe the quintessential 5th pocket knife, the Dragonfly 2 (for it’s ridiculous weight and size while allowing almost a 4 finger grip - YMMV) . Lastly, with knives on your list as sizeable as the Mini Nightshade, Odium, Mini Sheepdog & Cyber Blade, I would throw in a second Spyderco, the Chaparral as an incredibly useful, ultra-slim and stupid-slicey option for the 5th pocket. I love how different everyone is. I hate the Odium. LOL. The action on mine has never been able to be made smooth, no matter what I do (really inexpensive these days though). Especially compared to how much I love the Baby Banter in Drop Point... again, love the other blade shape! I have a Pyrite arriving soon, you and so many others praise it so much I just had to!

I’m definitely eyeing the Baby Banter Wharncliffe as well as the new Vosteed Corgi Pup; I love the full size corgi. My go to fifth pocket carries are the Knafs Lander 1 (Ben Peterson just does great smalls knife design), the Mini Bugout, and then the legal everywhere tiny Civivi Kei-V.

Wow that Microtech blade is about the thinnest I've seen. I wonder if it's prone to chips... The Pilar is such a great little knife. It's incredibly ergonomic and has smooth action. Vox is a genius knife designer.

I liked the Nip but I didn't love it and ended up selling it, I had the full Ti stonewash version from WMK. The ergonomics and action were amazing, and that forward choil is very roomy, but I am a real stickler for pocket clips, it's one of my deal breakers, and I think the pocket clip kinda sucked. The ramp on the inside edge of the clip kept hanging up on the hem of my pockets on the way out and it drove me absolutely nuts. Going into the pocket wasn't too bad. I do wanna try out a baby banter at some point. That will probably be my next 5th pocket purchase, but I've been chasing too much expensive stuff lately and need to cool it on the purchases.

Does anybody out there or or Wayne’s Sharp world know of anybody that does leather work that makes a little slip that is double sided that fits in the fifth pocket? Obviously that wouldn’t be my primary blade or my primary flashlight but I’ve been looking for something like that so I could have a very small flashlight and a very small blade either back to back or side-by-side. Obviously, there are many pocket organizers out there, but I’ve never seen anything specific made for a fifth pocket.

How is the button lock action on your mini pyrite? I just got mine yesterday and it's so bad it might as well be a liner lock. The detent is good but the blade doesn't want to drop closed, it's not at all smooth, and even after cleaning (it was swimming in lube) the action is better but super inconsistent; if you press the button too far it locks the blade in place. I thought it would be good because everyone raves about the pyrite but damn does mine suck

Fifth pockets are bizarre. I can fit my Am8 Flix 2 in most of my jeans 5th pocket, yet one pair is about big enough for my Civivi Odium (or similarly sized).
