Greg was an incredible vocalist. I mean he was 20 years old when they recorded this, and he has the voice of a 50 year old blues singer. Best American band ever. Their star burned brightly.

This band created southern rock. They were the forerunners to pioneer the sound of rock with blues & gospel flavoring.

You guys hit the originals. Before Lynyrd Skynyrd, before Marshall Tucker, before Molly Hatchet, ther was The Allman Brothers Band. Lead singe and keyboardist Gregg Allman, slide guitarist Duane Allman, second lead guitarist Dickey Betts, Bassist Barry Oakley, Jaimoe Johanson Drums, Butch Trucks Drums…yep, 2 drummers. Best songs “Stormy Monday,” “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” “Melissa,” “One Way Out.” “Soul Shine, and many others. Live is generally to be preferred, because they are a jam band and the live venue allows them room to improvise.

You have heard the Allman Brothers, trust me. A lot of their songs are used by several famous people. They featured two of the best guitarists who ever lived, with Duane Allman being perhaps the best slide guitarist who ever played the instrument and second lead guitarist Dickie Betts being one of the most melodic players who ever lived.. Younger brother Greg is the main vocalist who played the keyboards on most of their songs. They were the beginning of true southern rock and paved the way for other southern rock bands like Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, 38 Special, and the Charlie Daniels Band. They formed in Jacksonville originally as the Allman Joys then added Dickie Betts to form The Allman Brothers Band. Check out The Allman Brother Live at Fillmore East 1969 for the best live southern rock music you ever heard.

Great band. Great song. I graduated in 1974 so this is the music I grew up with. I feel like I was lucky enough to grow up at the best time for music (although I am a bit bias). This band will give you a lot to listen too. All amazing. Thank you two for what you do. I always enjoy our time together. Keep going. You haven't even scratched the surface yet. It will be a good ride. Love from TEXAS. Midnight Rider and Statesboro Blues by these guys is two of my favorites.

Greg Allman played keys and sang, his bother Duane played lead guitar along with Dicky Betts. There is live version of this on YT take the time to watch it, well worth it.

Greg Allman got the idea for this song in the middle of the night and was unable to find a pen or paper to write with so he wrote it down on an ironing board with the end of burnt matchsticks he was 21 years old. Duane " Sky Dog " Allman was considered one of the greatest guitarist that ever lived. The Allman Brothers have much great music to listen to 🤘✌️❤️

Yes, Allman Brothers predated Skynyrd but several years. Sadly most of this amazing band has passed on but there is a terrific reincarnation in the Tedeschi-Trucks Band of today. Butch Trucks was one of the drummers in the Allman Bros. and his nephew Derek Trucks features with his wife Susan Tedeschi to play modern southern rock and all the blues classics including Allman Bros hits.

The Allman Brothers Band original line up was Gregg Allman on keyboards and vocals, his big brother Duane on lead and slide guitar, Dickie Betts on lead guitar and vocals (yes, two lead guitars), Barry Oakley on bass, Jaimoe (I don't remember his real name) and Butch Trucks on drums (yes, two drummers). Gregg and Betts were the main song writers. In 1971, Duane was killed in a motorcycle accident. A year later, Oakley was also killed in a motorcycle accident. The band continued off and on until that 2000's. I know that Gregg, Betts and Trucks have also passed on, I'm not sure about Jaimoe. I saw them in an amazing concert in the New Haven Coliseum on New Year's Eve, 1979. They played a full concert, then after midnight, they came out and just jammed for about two hours. It was incredible. The next song you should do is "One Way Out". I also highly recommend "Soulshine" and "Not My Cross to Bear" and among so, so many others.

The Allman Brothers were formed in Jacksonville Florida in 1969, home town of Lynyrd Skynyrd. What are the odds? (Note: Skynyrd was actually originally formed in 1964 as "My Back Yard" - followed by other short-lived names - and changed the name to Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1968. The first Skynyrd album was released in 1973 and the plane crash was in 1977, killing Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines and his sister Cassie.)

The Allman Brothers were the first and the best of Southern Rock for me, several years ahead and slightly better, for me, than Lynyrd Skynyrd. This is one of their signature songs, you can view a live video of it and there is also a 20+ minute version on their Live at the Filmore legendary live album. They have many great songs to react to, enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥 Wait until you hear this on headphones, 2 guitars and 2 drums, the stereo spacing is amazing...

In Swee Home Alabama, there is a line in Muscle Shoals they got the Swampers,. This is a reference to the famous studios band in the Muscle Shoals Alabama studio band. Duane Allman played with the Swampers on Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and a number of artists. Somebody Loan Me A Dime is a classic Boz Scaggs tune where Duane killls the guitar…..Duane also played on the Derek and the Dominoes Lyla session and Duane plays the lead rift….. and on the slide no one better (with apologies to Derek Trucks whose uncle drummed for the Allmans

The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd were friends, in fact LS guitarist Gary Rossington learned some of his slide guitar skills from the Allmans and LS dedicated their song "Free Bird" to the Allman brothers...

When you said "The best songs aren't long enough ..." Well with The Allman Brothers Band your wish can be granted easily . On their In The United States Library of Congress album , "Live at Fillmore East" , the song "Whipping Post" takes up an entire album side . This was only part though of an hour long jam that starts with the Song "You Don't Love Me" (takes up another full album side ) which segues into "Whipping Post" and that in turn segues into "Mountain Jam" which takes up 2 sides of their album "Eat a Peach" . As I said the songs flow directly into one another so the band played for an Hour+ with no breaks . The Original Allman Brothers Band is Duane Allman & Dickey Betts on Guitar , Gregg Allman on Keyboards & Vocals , Berry Oakley on Bass and Jaimoe & Butch Trucks on drums . Butch is the uncle of current slide guitar master Derek Trucks who leads The Tedeschi-Trucks band with his wife Susan Tedeschi . Derek was recruited to The Allman Brothers Band in 1999 at the ripe old age of 20 and was with them until the band called it a day in 2014. If you don't know who Derek is , you should .

Being from Alabama.... that sounds like Texas Alabama really cracked me up. Spoiler alert... Way more than 2 brothers. There's a whole band. They're from Jacksonville Florida. Home of Skynyrd, Tom Petty, Shinedown, JJ grey kinda sorta, and a few others I'm forgetting about. These guys probably were more influential than Skynyrd I hate to say. Probably because of longevity. Skynyrd was cut short. Check out Soulshine. My favorite Allman brothers song. It really will make your soul shine and brighten your day. Getting used to these good reactions. Don't set the bar too high. We'll expect it every time. Lol

Not long enough, try what is considered by mand as the greatest live album ever The Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore. Good luck on this journey that just started. Duane Allman is top ten on damn near every list of best guitar players ever. The Allman Brothers Band was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969.[3] Its founding members were brothers Duane Allman (slide guitar, lead guitar) and Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboards, songwriting), as well as Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). Subsequently based in Macon, Georgia, they incorporated elements of blues, jazz and country music and their live shows featured jam band-style improvisation and instrumentals.
