42 years ago.. Berlin Airlift, RFK Stadium Washington DC.. Nobody knew who the Allman Bros. were.. We were there for Grand Funk Railroad.. Coming out, they ripped into Statesboro Blues, the whole stadium got up, shaking the place to the foundation! From there they went to Miami.. Eric Clapton was in the front row at their show, went back stage, invited them to the "Layla" sessions.. The rest is history.. We miss you brother...

@@twiztidlife66 : JW was a huge influence on me as a guitar player. Very different styles, Duane and Johnny. Both influenced by Elmore James of course. Johnny used a thumb pick ( because Chet Atkins did) and a metal slide because Johnny said it was "nastier', Duane used a glass coriciden bottle and because it is glass it is much mellower and sweet. Johnny was also a lightning fast standard electric guitar player, much more so than Duane, however Duane's 'voicing' was superb, and in Statesboro blues, you can hear Duane use the 'question answer technique' which is in this case, the vocalist singing something and the slide guitar answers the phrase, so Duane's 'voicing' was sublime . Glad I grew up when I did... Johnny and Duane were certainly the best slide guitar players of their time, and indelible in music history. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5TPg52mqbyfjZo

I first saw the ABB in 1973. The Spectrum in Philadelphia. Since then I have seen them 35 times and i am 64. From philly to Macon, Louisville to LA. I have their entire discography. 1971 Fillmore East fantastic. Elizabeth Reed anytime us fantastic. I play guitar and thanks to KZbin, ive almost got Duanes lead down . Such a thrill to get just 1 note right. May i suggest 1971 at Stonybrook 1 month before Duane died. Best Blue sky ever.! Also 7-19-79 Merriweather Post Pavillion Columbia,MD. Best Oneway out of all time. Just my opinion. Btw if you have not been to Macon Ga. And you love these guys, it's the most rewarding experience in your life. I promise.

ed f ...If anyone starts an arguement with you over how YOU feel about the music you like, that person(s) is a total idiot. Personally, I love MUSIC...(Old School music). Hell, there were a few songs in the 60s & 70s that I did NOT like and with the garbage out there nowadays, I even appreciate the stuff I DIDN'T like then.

Derek Trucks is a student of the Slide too. One of if not the best since Duane. And just like Duane, no ego when he plays with others. Watch him on stage with John Myers, The King, His Wife Susan. The pure joy they have playing together. John gets a bad rap but he's good and you can see him studying Derek when he plays.

Robert..I too had the honor of seeing them as well. It was in Dec. of 1969 just after the release of their first album, which hadn't been favorably accepted by a lot of ignorant folk, except for Rolling Stone magazine. The ticket to the show was my birthday present. The show was at a small auditorium in Georgetown, Ky. When we arrived at the one and only door , there was no one there to even take our tickets!. We walked to the front row, which was maybe 4 feet from this small stage and sat down in these wooden chairs. They walked on stage and proceeded to tear it slap down with their unmistakable sound! They played as if they were playing to hundreds of people, though there were only MAYBE 75 people there!!! After playing Trouble No More and Don't Want You No More and on and on for at least a couple of hours, they took a break, walked to the back of that little stage and sat down on the floor to partake of drink and weed, just as we were. No one around who objected. After a few minutes, they came back up front and played for another hour. Un- believable evening, so incredible I recall it as if it were yesterday! We watched them leave that snowy night in the back of a station wagon. The next year, they were playing at Fillmore East and were finally beginning to get the recognition they so deserved. The following year, Duane was gone. The year after that, Berry was gone....in the same way and in almost the same location. Tragic times.. That first album that was so ignored in 1969, was remixed, re released in 1973 I think, and sold over 500,000 copies. And to think, only 4 years earlier, I experienced The Allman Brothers...Gregg, Duane, Dickie, Berry and Butch.... live.... on a small stage in Georgetown, Ky!! Once in a lifetime experience and best birthday present EVER!!!
