When you feel the music deep down in your soul, you have reached a higher level of musical quality. I’m 64 years old, grew up in the south and this music still touches me at a deep level. It’s raw and it’s real. It wasn’t just about the money back then. These artist truly explored the deeper levels of music. My Christian faith understands the ups and downs in life and God gave us amazing music to express it.

It's funny, growing up through the 60's and 70's, I didn't really appreciate the music as much then as I do now because I took it for granted it was always going to get better and lots of it; boy was I wrong.

One of if not my favorite AAB tune. I was lucky enough to meet Gregg Allman early one morning. I was working as a night auditor and the band had checked into the hotel. He came strolling through the lobby 3 am. I called out Hey Gregg, how's it going. He stopped, looked over, cracked a huge grin and walked over to the front desk. He shook my hand, talked a bit. I asked him for his script, which he gave no problem. He wrote To Shawn Love and Boogie (heart over the i) Gregg Allman ABB. He was really laid back. We happened to have the same birthday except a 10 yr spread. Anyway, LOVE THIS TUNE. Pure blues....😎

Check out Duane's work at Muscle Shoals as a studio musician on the collections Anthology 1 and 2. He played with the likes of Aretha, King Curtis, Wilson Pickett, and many others and was also the second lead guitar on Clapton's Derek and the Dominos' album "Layla". Listening to Duane and Clapton trading licks on the title track is pure magic.

I first saw them in Sarasota in 1969 at the City Auditorium. Had never heard of them, but yes I'll come in from longboat key to see what's up. I was 14 and walked around the back by the bay and saw drummer Butch Trucks warming up. I was stoked, came in to catch the roadie's doing the final tune up. The way the ROADIES were going up and down the neck I said to myself " I think this is going to be the best band I'm ever going to see". I was spot on. And by 14 I was a concert rat and seen everybody including Elvis. But the Bubbas were the best. And they would rent a house by the Myakka River in Venice and rehearse all night long. We thought it would never end.

Don’t know how I previously missed this reaction to one of my favorite songs but I did. Allman Brothers music has many sounds and is one of the things so appealing to me. I hear rock, country, gospel, blues, jazz and even Latin sounds when I listen to them. These guitars in Stormy Monday seem to be displaying human emotions and crying in anguish.

Reese Wynans was in a band called the Second Coming, with Dickey Betts & Berry Oakley. When Duane Allman was forming the Allman Brothers, Reese was considered but set aside for Duane's brother, Gregg, since Duane didn't need or want two keyboard players, they needed a singer, and Gregg fit the bill as Duane called him "the blues-singingest white boy ever.. Gregg was stuck in California at the time, trying to fulfill his obligations to the Hour Glass. I can't recall how he got out of the contract, but when Duane called him to Florida, Gregg went... and the rest, as they say, is history.

Great reactions to Stormy Monday! I appreciate your assessment of the Allman Brothers, they were such dedicated, talented and hard-working musicians that you just don't find these days. Just wanted to point out on the lyrics to Stormy Monday that "The Eagle flies on Friday" refers to getting paid on Friday so you can go out and have fun on Saturday, which then of course sets up going to church on Sunday when you pray for forgiveness for all the fun you had on Saturday night. Great Blues lyrics to be sure!

Gregg Allman says at the beginning, before the music even starts, “While we’re doing that blues thing, we’re gonna do an old Bobby Blue Bland song; actually, it’s a T-Bone Walker song.” T-Bone Walker was the first electric blues guitar superstar in Texas. He grew up in Oak Cliff, just south of Dallas, where Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan grew up. He was a showman, got famous in the 1940s and ‘50s playing with his teeth, behind his back and head. Bobby Blue Bland got famous in Memphis, and had a hit with Stormy Monday too. They’re both in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and the Blues Hall Of Fame, like Stevie Ray.

As much as I hold in esteem the Allman Brothers, one song by the Marshall Tucker Band is among the greatest anthems of Southern Rock. On 9/10/1973, at the Grand Opera House in Macon Georgia, they were featured along with the Allman Brothers that night. Macon, Ga'. at that time was the epicenter of southern rock. The black and white video of the live performance has 35 million views. It has a one second skip in the video; it's not your computer. The lead singer and guitarist, Toy Caldwell, is one year from being wounded in Vietnam while in the USMC. Toy uses his right thumb to play his guitar as does his brother also a member of this great band. You won't be disappointed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mp3GZ6t5hd1pZrc As for the Allman Brothers, I, too, join in the request for you to react to Statesboro Blues which is the lead song on the Fillmore East live album. It is a classic and one of the best of the best off of that great album with great guitar work by Duane and Dickey with Gregg's one-of-a-kind voice.

Another great song from the Fillmore East album by The Allmans. Your reaction and comments were great. I see in the comments where people insist on comparing which versions of this song are better. They’re all great and does it really matter who wrote it, who popularized it, who did a better version?Nothing wrong with giving credit to the original or other versions but it’s not a competition, or at least it shouldn’t be.

I've been enjoying your reaction videos. It's good to see a younger generation interested in music from an earlier era. Y'all really like Gregg. I do, too. Besides singing, he wrote most of their songs, too. I get tickled when I think of an interview I heard of Gregg back in the 70s. He said that he sings like James Brown with no lips! Lots of folks referred to him as "Gruntin' Gregg". He also talked about having a band in the 60s. He said, "We were doing pretty good. Then the damn Beatles came out!" It's not all peaches and cream. The Allmans are my favorite band of all time of anybody. I learned to play guitar, bass, and keyboards listening to "At Fillmore East" album and wore several of them out! Keep on reacting.
