Years ago in Long Beach there was a place called The Blue that was a blues club downtown. I lived in a loft above it for around 5 years. These guys played there - one of the owners had been a roadie for the band before he retired and opened The Blue so they were playing a short gig there before their LA show. |t was that kind of place. I was up on the roof smoking a joint when a couple guys joined me, and we shared a few joints and and chatted a bit and then they left. Later I went downstairs to dance and looked up to see the guitarist was the guy I was just sharing a joint with. That was when I realized he was in the band. Don't recall if it was Dickie or not, I think it might have been but it was 20 years ago and I was stoned. But man - it was a real kick. Real bluesmen this band and a joy to dance to.

I am loving your reaction to this song because it is definitely one of the best blues numbers ever done by any band!! Something you should know about the Allman Brothers if you don't already is that when they played live they played for hours and hours not like concert these days that are over in an hour and a half these guys would play into the wee hours of the morning!!! I've had the pleasure of seeing the Allman Brothers live more than once!! Unfortunately it was not with Duane Allman, which kind of sucked but I got to see the rest of the band Live!! Definitely a great reaction and you are definitely one of my favourite reactors on KZbin!!

Jamel, looked right from the start you wanted to kick back and sip on some wine or bourbon and just soak in this wonderful rendition of a blues classic. "The eagle flies on Friday, Saturday I go out to play. Sunday I go to church, yeah, and I get down to pray." Wonderful life snapshots! If you enjoyed this tune, try Boz Scaggs' version of "Loan Me a Dime"'; Duane plays in that classic, too. And then there's "Dreams" by the ABB, I think off their 2nd album.

From a young age Duane and Gregg listened to the blues and the old greats. They listened over and over cause they wanted to learn and they respect the genre and the older masters. They listened to the current artists as well and blended a lot of genre's together, for a great result. They really worked hard to be able to play at this height at such a young age. We are blessed to have these recordings of the original band. Thanks J, you are my favorite reactor. And a kind man.

Jamal, watching your reactions, there are those songs that are okay... then there are the ones that truly move you and inspire you. Allmans touch people...Gregg Allman on organ and singing lived the blues most of his life until he got cleaned up... that's what you hear... is those hard times and that need unfulfilled.

The blues: originally _the blue devils,_ is a reference to the hallucinations sometimes seen while in alcohol withdrawal (DTs)

Greg had that rich, soulful voice that made him the best white R&B singer in the business. Add the magic of his keyboard and the incredible guitar of Duane Allman and Dickie Betts ! Wow !

I learned how to play a blues harmonica as a teenager so that I could perform this tune on stage with my buddies rock band.

THE BEST live album ever, freaking amazing. I'm a 66 year old young lady, lol, and I am so grateful to have grown up when I did. The music was & still is everything to me, have mercy...

First time hearing the Allman Brothers version. Great song. My mom use to play this on our record player and it was Bobby Blue Bland version.

Bought all of their albums as they came out. I am a big fan of Southern Rock / Blues, of which they were the best. Another cover of a blues standard by them is "Hoochie Coochie Man". I am 69 years old now and still listen to them on a regular basis.
