I used Xperia z1 and it is the worst phone I’ve used until now, from camera optimisation that makes the photo worse than a 150$ phone on that point of time to overheating issues which made me forced to use speaker for talking in phone there is nothing good I can remember about the phone even the beautiful design is crap as it got bend after a month only. Sony deserved it downfall and I’m happy about it.

Lets judge the Pixel line off the Nexus 5. Lets judge Samsung off the Note 7, lets judge OnePlus off their, "no notifications for you", line. Apple's 1+1 = 11 was also a good one. Sony as a phone maker is still stuck in the pre-covid era. That explains all the available features that almost no other brand offers these days, and the software experience is still a travesty when some of the biggest Android phone makers are now promising many years of quality software and security updates with as little wait time as possible. Another problem they can't seem to fix is the pricing - their phones are always priced 1-2 tiers above every other phone with very similar specs, which means you will always find a better phone for the same money. At that point you'd really have to weigh how much you value the niche features Sony offers in exchange for that 1-2 tier above pricing.
@breaky73
@breaky73 Ай бұрын
100% Agree. It's the same with Sharp, (the only other Japanese phone brand who still sells phones outside Japan, although very limited), and the defunct LG phone brand, which of course did go down in the covid era, for good reasons. The hardware quality is usually top notch, with 3.5 mm headphone jacks and SD card support, but the software experience is lacking. Chinese brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, etc, do pay serious attention to the software experience on their phone nowadays, but do seem to copy Apple. It also means that the only non Chinese brand of android phones which is still readily available worldwide is Samsung, and that is just a sad state of affairs, since they have not offered any SD card support or 3.5 mm headphone jacks on their high-end phones for awhile now. Not that I personally care too much about where a brand is from, (I am still very happy with my Xiaomi) but some more choice in different non-chinese brands would great.
@jiffonbuffo
@jiffonbuffo 21 күн бұрын
@@breaky73Chinese phones are also hit and miss. But the higher you go, the better treatment they usually give. My Poco X6 Pro has arse software but it's $100+ cheaper than the Galaxy A55 so the pain of missing the sd card slot was partially alleviated. China brands also treat China variants way differently than Global variants. Were it not for the extreme price to specs ratio, the feeling of being treated like a second class citizen would suck even more.

I personally owned this phone right now. I'm a Sony fan since Sony ericsson era, my country doesn't launched Sony phones anymore but somehow i managed to buy it from somewhere after a long process. Here's My Honest feedback. Heating: First of all the phone started heating the moment you turned on the device and turned on some features. After using the camera app for 5 to 10 minutes the heating gets severe that i had to leave in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to cool it down. Camera: The camera won't work due to over heating warning on the screen after using the camera for less than an hour. Need to cool down and restart so you can start taking photos again. And the same happens. As a camera pro and video pro phone there's no dedicated editing app. Fingerprint: The fingerprint option disappeared from settings after using the phone for few months, completed every possible updates but the fingerprint scanner wouldn't work. Also the phone lacks customisations such as themes and settings. Sound quality is good but very very low especially calling volume, can hardly hear the other person on the call. Battery: As long as the phone isn't used and kept somewhere the battery last for days but if the device is in function the battery drains every minute. ONLY GOD KNOWS WHY SUCH AN OVERPRICED PHONE HAS SO MUCH PROBLEM IN IT. I'm having anxiety already lol.

Not paying $1500 to do what the company should be doing. Customer roms were fine when phones were $400-500 and updates were sparse but in the 2020s it’s unacceptable at this price. It means that Sony is saving money by a. Not paying Google for license and b. Skimping on resources for producing updates. I’m not for helping these corporations save money.

@@topg2820 lol nice job on basically just destroying your own argument and reinforcing mine. Sony sure loves the unintelligent, y’all keep them afloat. Software is a continuous cost, to provide support, companies need to pay licensing fees to Google, on top of that, there needs to be a whole division of software and security engineers who modify that update or patch for specific models, all of that means costs for resources such as energy and other overhead. Hardware is literally the cheapest part of a phone, once you purchase the device there’s nothing else the company needs to do with hardware unless you go back to replace it which you probably won’t. Back to my original comment, I’m not paying $1500 to do the job that Sony should be doing in 2024. Every time you sheep say “I’ll just load a custom rom” the filthy rich CEOs just laugh all the way to the bank because they just saved millions on not supporting devices past two years. Customer Roms were cool in like 2014 when patches and updates weren’t pushed but for the sake of customization in 2024 because the company doesn’t support your $1500 phone? Nah, you can have that. And what are you? 12? Haven’t cared about UI customization for years.

I recently managed to pick up the Xperia 5 V, as a c grade with a few scratches, but nothing serious, (the current latest model in the 5 lineup, so far), for £385 from a fairly nearby CeX. Whilst it's not the most perfect device in the world, I love it nonetheless. As you mentioned, the performance, 3.5mm port, and SD card slot is well worth it if I'm honest. I'm definitely having to get used to the camera tuning again, but I've been able to get some truly stunning photos from older generations of the "modern" Xperia 5 lineup. Being able to have a slim, compact phone with a great battery, older features not seen on other devices anymore, and a pretty great looking screen makes it well worth grabbing and using, even with it's quirks. Regardless, great video as always :)

It's close to vanilla Android, isn't it? With a little bit of effort in the initial stages, maybe you can very nicely customize a lot of things. You didn't have to give up on the phone for it. There are plenty of Launchers out there that can help you with the double tap to screen off and screen on, as well as the lock screen. I'm using MiUI, and those guys are very far away from a vanilla Android, that's why I'm struggling to customize anything because all these apps just break. I had the Mark 4 last and despite mad price and awkwardness to find accessories like cases, screen protectors etc I loved the device and would still consider going back to it. HOWEVER Sony has a major issue not only witht he above issues but with their software as well. Despite the phone runing near stock android it has plutera of bugs that are just annoying. Some are random freezes/reboots/or just black screen until you plug in a charger in. Random app crashes, issues with their own special photo and video apps not really recording the way you want due to the phone refusing to do what you tell it. It feels like the hardware is top quality in terms of build, screen, cameras,speakers but the software is left to the side and berely fixed. I sold the phone in the end mainly due to the software issues and my failed attempts to fix it. I spend weeks looking into forums and discussions regarding them and the solution was "change the phone" or "it's just the sony touch nothing we can do about it". Ended up switching to a Pixel 5 about 18 months later and the software was just so much better sorted. Even though the Sony had fantastic hardware (for the time), the software experience on the Pixel just blew it out of the water, and I've stuck with the Pixel lineup ever since (went to the Pixel 7 Pro two years later, and just got a Pixel 9 Pro a couple of weeks ago).

I used a Pixe 6 & 7a and they were easily the worst phones I've ever had. They overheated every morning during my commute. They overheated at night even when it was raining; leaving me stranded in the wrong part of town, they had poor cellular modems so they'd also drop signal during navigation or a call when on certain parts of the highway which none of my other older phones did. It forced me to carry a back up phone from 2017 for whenever it decided to randomly screw up. It also had very middling performance, thanks to the bad Samsmsung fabricated soc. So, I get it.

I'm not too fond with the aspect ratio of the screen. But I love almost everything else about the Xperia. It's a shame that it's not widely available in my region, and it's very expensive for current generation models.

I have both the Xperia 1 III and 1IV. Both of the fingerprint sensor died. Battery life is meh to poor. Phone gets hot easily especially using the camera app. 1 IV was acting up at one point where it would constantly freeze and shut off even on standby/idle. It was already past its warranty so I couldn't send them in for RMA. I do like the features but all the issues that came with it broke me.

Sony phones are hard to recommend in general due to price when it was brand new, and the software update lifecycle lasting for 2-3 years worth of Android version upgrade. I'm fine with 3 years but opting for 4-5 years of software support lifecycle would be better (or even better, 7 years of software updates) for an otherwise a very capable mobile photography powerhouse. I would opt for Sony if I am switching from my Redmi Note 10 Pro because I am extremely picky on my feature requirements, especially having a headphone jack. Xperia 1 VI would be my go-to choice if I have money to pay for or I just wait for it showing up in the used market in a year or two for an even lower price.

I have Xperia 1 II, and since my previous age-old phone has headphone jack, microsd card slot, I do not need to adjust myself. It was instant to use my media files right after setting it up since I only need to insert the card. I still get some sort of update, on google play system. And sony or google managed to update the apps, despite having android 12, so I can enjoy some a.i. features like the magic eraser.

I'm such a big fan of sony. Ever since i want to have one. Last week i almost bought the 1 mark iii 2nd, but i chose a55. Because here in the Philippines we dont have sony service center here anymore. They don't sell their smartphones here anymore. That's why i couldn't risk it. Plus most sony's that are sold here are refurbished with low quality parts. But tbh I'd love to have one. Having sd card, notif led, headphone jack. Is a very win win to have for that price.

I owned the 1m4 and now the 1m5. I couldn't stand the overheating in the 1m4. But the cameras had little.processing and I actually liked that. The 1m5 is much better finished product but the odd time the video pro app would freeze. Overall, 1m5 is a keeper for me and no need to upgrade to 1m6. The headphone jack is great for using lav mics when recording or plugging it into my car and not having to fumble around with Bluetooth. May keep it until iphone 17...idk

Not a fan of the Mk4 and also the Mk3 because of the chipset. Even with Sony's fanatical attention to battery life, they still couldn't tame the chipset's overheating mess. The Mk5 got things right, thanks in no small part to Qualcomm's superbly excellent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

I wish Sony would work a little harder on their phones and make some stellar offerings that blow everyone else out of the water. They don't have to be high-end or ultra-high-end, but start with a really good midrange phone that has some slick Sony Software on it, and keep a high-end headphone jack and use the Walkman name for your music player and such.

With such poor software support and super unique options, this phone would be perfect for a ROM. But after scrolling through the forums, it sounds like without the stock software, tons of the camera features are lost

I think one of the most irritating things about Sony phones is the DRM key deletion upon bootloader unlocking. The lackluster software support could be circumvented with custom ROMs. Sony do allow you to easily unlock the bootloader and people do make custom ROMs for these phones, but losing all of the DRM keys upon unlocking the bootloader is such a hostile countermeasure against this very thing. It effectively blacklists all Sony phones from the attention of any potential tinkerers who may have considered them if custom ROMs were a viable option without this huge downside.

Just recently a few phone makes are starting to offer more effective levels of software support. Motorola (for many years one of the worst) is suddenly offering really impressive update duration and speed. However WILL they continue to DELIVER? Updates are the reason I mostly used Samsung for years- despite some annoying issues: like slow charging rates and bloated firmware (with Samsung versions of so many perfectly good Google applications). What I'm looking for next is good cameras, especially at the longer end plus plenty of on board storage with long support.
