He played in my fav team Beşiktaş for a year. I have watched all of his games. The most interesting thing about him is to gets better each day. Never stopped working. Never stopped developing. With this mindset, sky is the limit. I remember his first game and last game, he was %60 better. So I can say that in 3 years he will hear MVP chants when he comes to the free-throw line.

Sengun was measured at 6' 10" and a half by the Magic, I believe. Whether that is barefoot or in basketball shoes, I don't know. But barefoot would make him only a half inch shorter than Jokic.
@brodiestephens419
@brodiestephens419 3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more. O'Connor's comparisons seem pretty spot on. He genuinely looks like some combination of Jokic and Sabonis. More athletic than Jokic, but not as athletic as Sabonis. More flashy post passer than Sabonis, but not as flashy/genius as Jokic. Not the shooter that either of them are..... yet, but his stroke looks really nice and his free-throw percentage (at age 18 especially) projects well for translating to NBA outside shooting in the future. The most important takeaway though, is exactly what you said. MVP of the tough and talented Turkish League at age 18 is pretty insane. Sacramento took Marvin Bagley instead of the MVP (Luka), and I'd say they'd probably do it differently if they had their time again. I actually like Bagley and still believe in his potential, but as you said..... next time.... take the 18-year-old MVP!!

He is 6'10 and can still grow. As the MVP, he had 19.2pts, 9.4rebs (4.1 OR), 2.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.7 blocks per game in Turkish League. His size isn't enough for a center (yet), but his high BBIQ compensates his weaknesses a lot. All he needs is some 3 PTs, a little bit growth, and muscles to become an all star. He is just 18, all of them are achievable.
@PaulS-q9c
@PaulS-q9c 3 жыл бұрын
The big one is defence. Even if he becomes bigger as a centre, that helps one part of his defence, but he also doesn't have the foot speed He could get stronger, continue to improve as a playmaker, develop a shot and all of it could be for nothing if he doesn't develop on defence
@efeercelik5811
@efeercelik5811 3 жыл бұрын
@@PaulS-q9c he is going to be good defender. he got quick hips, amazing instincts, great anticipation, solid off-ball defense. he averaged 2.1 BPG and 1.6 STL per 36 minutes, and that high amount of steals per game is the best indicator of defensive ability for upcoming bigs. the only concern may be lateral quickness, but he can easily improve upon that. he's not going to be a bad defender at all. also, if he becomes an amazing offensive player, it can never be "for nothing if he doesn't develop on defence" is a ridiculous statement. Jokic isn't a good defender. He's still one of the best players in the world. We have other examples of Superstars / All-stars being negative defenders too.

@nyestrovicpenchkofferberge3407
@nyestrovicpenchkofferberge3407 3 жыл бұрын
@@PaulS-q9c Let's not forget, he's just 18. A recent growth spurt could be the reason he looks so awkward. Standing straight up, or doing his spin moves, he's fantastic, but he doesn't get his hips down on defense, and it looks to me like a balance issue. His hips are too high and his upper body is straight like a board (When he is away from the basket against a player with some mobility) which makes it harder for him to swing his momentum with quick twitch type players. Granted, we saw the highlights of his worst efforts, so that might have been fatigue or stiffness or something else that showed such poor defensive tendencies. Then again, he is a short armed type guy who apparently doesn't have much in the way of hops, so you could be right. But if he's a stretch 4 with some serious skills in the interior, he'll match-up well enough against other stretch 4's with Christian Wood guarding the paint and his 40 foot wingspan and hops. So, take advantage of his strengths and hide his weaknesses as much as you can.

I can't believe he's not a consensus top-5 or 6 choice, a potentially nuclear talent. I can't stand constantly hearing that he doesn't have the "size" to be a center. That's ridiculous. For one, he's at least 6'10" now. Draymond Green can play center at 6'6" and there are a lot of 6'10" centers. Sengun is really strong for his size, plays really hard and tough, and can protect the rim. His ability to run the floor makes him an ideal center in today's NBA. People just keep bringing up that he's good at post ups as if that's a negative. Sure, he'll post up less in the NBA, but he has a lot of skills and post ups by a highly skilled big can still help a team after the defense is set.

He´s like the complete opposite, a tough Nba ready defender with questionmarks on offense. Improved as a corner shooter and rim runner, but brings everything you want as a defender. Great fit with Warriors if they keep their pick but might be gone at 14 if teams do their homework.

Very interested to see how he will attempt to translate this style of play to the league today. His good ft% shows signs that he can extend his range, but a guy who relies on post moves at 6’9” is worrisome right now. His vision does look like it could be a nice asset, not sure where he fits exactly but he feels like his floor would be a some version of Thad Young or younger K Love (not that high level of play, but ability to play down low, attack offensive glass, and make solid outlet passes into the fast break).

This guy will be able to light it up from long range in a year or two, there’s a video of him in practice raining 3s at only 18 years old. Also he should dominate in the low post because nba centers of this generation are BBQ Chicken. Go getem Big Al!!

Honestly, wouldn't mind having him on the Warriors. Face it, it's not likely we're getting a guy who's gonna be a bad ass superstar in the next 2-3 years. What we REALLY need right now are guys who have energy and can contribute with meaningful minutes, hopefully with room to grow. Look at Juan Toscano-Anderson. That guy plays smart, plays HARD, and when he was in, good stuff happened. Sengun could be that kind of guy. On the second unit, we could use him like we used to use David West, getting a few smart buckets and playing with effort. Pair that with someone like Davion Mitchell or Moses Moody, guys who could also contribute meaningfully RIGHT NOW, and I feel like that's a great scenario for the warriors to be in. especially if Wiseman makes a jump from year one to year two

at first, i wasnt high on sengun despite his impressive production because i didnt think his athleticism would be good enough for the nba. but his feel for the game should help what shortcomings he has as a defender. also, hes a much better passer than what i gave him credit for.

@@canhimself For example Theo Maledon was also in France in the same league with Killian Hayes but he experienced Euroleague and it made him better player than he was before. Just like you said hayes' moveset and espically mindset is raw. I believe that if Alperen had decided to play in Europe to experience Euroleague level he would have definitely been top 5 pick in nba draft 2022. Biggest example of this is Luka Doncic. The toughness he played in Europe made him special. (Hocam Türkçe'de yazardım da millet Alperen'i öğrensin. Onun için çok heyecanlıyım umarım yıllarca milli takıma hizmet edecek ve bizi gururlandıracak.)

I personally thing alperen sengun can be a solid rim protector not elite but somone who can defend the post later on his career. If his offense stays put and his three and defense improve then he can even be a borderline superstar but for now I think he can be a real.all star
