Ahh the nostalgia, i loved this game back in the days , was 12 years old at the time when i first played it , that would be definitely one of the top 5 games on my list for a remake

Licensing sucks, cos whilst its true that manufacturers don't want their brand image "tarnished" by splatting peds, the flip side is that when it comes to movies, they fall hand over fist to be the chosen one in a car chase or criminal enterprise film. In any case, the Getaway, despite its dodgy controls was a god tier game. And I can't really explain why I enjoyed it so much
@subhashxrecord3131 Жыл бұрын
I just got through Gta3 and Vice City in 2023; Back then in 2002 2003 my opinion about The Getaway was that there had been a shift into GTA Style sandbox games it went like ; 2D racers 3d Polygon (GT) Driver (Openworld) Gta3; When Getaway dropped Gta3 had been mainstay with its great story artwork style and characterized gangsters; Getaway had a serious and compelling story even with many missions featuring A to B mechanics it's villains more gritty and believable than characture esc Salvatore Leone; Charlie gang in Soho was more unpredictable ; Gta3 VC now things like miscalculating hitbox and vehicle weight issues (Trucks stop against light poles smaller vehicles) Get stuck on objects spin out alot, The Getaway allowed high speed driving through heavy traffic and something I started to call :Clip Through " even at blistering pace npc vehicles would not clip or grab the vehicle think of it like Lane Splitting on a bike when it works it works In Gta i can't drive for long distances without passing overtaking npc vehicle im so often being grabbed and clipped by hitboxes of other vehicle; Also at that time GTA was featuring fictional autos; Your screencap shows the Purple Triad Civic you should of mentioned it; As well as the R33 Nissan more interesting gunshot physics glass panels were very fun to shoot out more interior spaces it goes on i apologize for my lack of grammer take care thanks .

What the general public might not know is when an entertainment entity enters into a licensing agreement with a manufacturer... There are a myriad of stipulations the film/TV/game producer has to abide by, or the manufacturer can just say no. Some of these restrictions include no extensive damage modeling, no depictions of the brand being used in illegal activity even in a fictional setting, other car brands have to be portrayed as being worse even if they aren't IRL, etc. This is why games like GTA don't even bother with licensing vs. more car focused, open world games like Forza Horizon, The Crew, etc. where a lot of brands pay the developers to have cars featured because those types of games are virtual showcases even with all the restrictions.

The getaway was made in a time where manufacturers barely cared, and even then they had issues with licensing. Namely Jaguar and Bentley, who wouldn’t let there cars anywhere near the series, which is why the main baddie ended up in the not quite as intimidating rover 75

If you ask me, copyright law should not apply to real life brands depicted in video games. Video games should be considered art, and art is all about expression. In effect, by stopping people from making art that reflects real life brands, you are limiting their freedom of speech. This ultimately will harm society because if you cannot criticize corporations in art, such corporations can get away with a lot more.

What I would do for this to be remade these days. Or a game set in set again in london (or at least the UK) similar but based in the 70s.

I wouldn’t call this a gta clone. This game was authentic. It really got me interested in Great Britain, and London. Their lifestyle, slang, etc. was unknown to me for the most part until I played this game.The storyline was INCREDIBLE!

I might also add that "Wheelman" also had a few licensed cars. While some elements, like hitting pedestrians, were censored, other elements were surprisingly destructive, including the ability to shoot and blow up vehicles!

Brendan McNamara actually got another shot at a GTA-like with licenced cars in the form of L.A. Noire though concerns about licences were mitigated by the fact that you play as a police officer and that the cars are either long-discontinued models which don't seem to present that much of a concern for them marques or that the brands are long since defunct.

This game is still in my top five for videos games that impacted my gaming experience for the better. The few negatives are outweighed by the many more positives. The licenced cars, the setting, the storyline, the characters. It all came together for a wonderful game. That would be bonkers if they made a recreation with improved graphics, and maybe a heads-up display - or just a map and a reticle! 😉

Ats and ets2 has licensed trucks from real semi truck brands, like mack, Peter built, freightliner, western star, volvo Scania, man, Iveco, mercedes Benz, daf for example.
@DanLMH Жыл бұрын
Can you shoot/murder/run over pedestrians in ETS/ATS? And do the trucks have parts fall off when damaged, it's that kind of thing being talked about in the video (genuine question bc I don't play them)
@hugoaberg1168 Жыл бұрын
@@DanLMH no, when you see pedestrians on the sidewalks or at terminals or such, they spawn around to the opposite direction and start walking the other direction they came from (on the sidewalk) or they stand behind some sort of small poles (a part of the cement construction).

Darkly ironic that London Studio, the successor to Team Soho, was shut down DAYS after this video was released. God, I hate corporations. The closest we'll get now is no doubt a game with wink-and-nod imitations or real cars with legally-distinct names, just like GTA already has.

It's insane how this game and its sequel would let you destroy real cars til they burn to a crisp (which makes me shudder, considering the many sports cars featured in these games) and commit vehicular manslaughter with them. No way would this happen ever again, and that's a shame really. Excuse me while I go on a rant here; but on the subject of licensed cars, I firmly believe that licensing is only stagnating the driving/racing genre as of right now (among other factors of course). I think that manufacturers are getting in the way of innovation within the genre with their nitpicky demands just to maintain a pretty image on their cars. Driving/racing games shouldn't solely be sold on car brand recognition and "realism" (whatever that means) alone if we want more people to get into driving/racing games in this day and age. As much as I want to see my favorite Mitsubishi Evo in a game, I'd trade it for actually engaging gameplay that can potentially reel in non-car people. Just wanted to get this off my chest and see my favorite genre do better.
