ABOUT THIS VIDEO
Mention Avery Fisher, or The Fisher Radio Corporation, to a vintage audio collector or restorer, and they will almost always associate this name with some of the most legendary audio products ever made. Avery Fisher, the founder and long time president, was driven to innovate so many aspects of the hi fidelity market over the years, that a list of firsts is almost beyond comprehension. He was truly a pioneer in separating and developing individual audio components, like tuners, amplifiers and speakers, making them the best in the industry. Prior to his new approach, components were unified into consoles, the flagship products of the hi fidelity market for years. He was also the first to produce an all transistor stereo receiver, the Tune-O-Matic.
But there is so much more to Avery Fisher's life. Besides producing the Rolls Royce of audio products, at super premium prices, he also started a business, AR Products, to source aftermarket accessories for foreign automobiles, then relatively scarce in America. It was a success. But his greatest passion was design, particularly of book covers. So great was his reputation that long after he was rich and successful, he was sought out by Winston Churchill's publisher to design the cover for Churchill's great work, A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, published in 1956. Being a generous philanthropist, he donated his fees for this, and other design works, to charity. He also went on to endow the Lincoln Center's music hall, seeing it renamed Avery Fisher Music Hall. Years later, his family was compensated when the Hall was renamed, Geffin Concery Hall.

So delighted, Rosie, to find and read your excellent tribute to the creator of the very term High Fidelity. Modern wi fi-ists should appreciate the ear catching cadence of the term hi fi as being the root of their beloved term. Yet, modern digitals brought the beloved Fisher back to me; THE FISHER! I found it again because of computers and google and ebay. Well done. But I digress. I have always had a devotion to both Avery Fisher and his electronic and intellectual prodigies. When I was in high school, the slightly older young adult audiophiles were sort of turning on Fisher, generation gap, didn't want their parents "over the hill" equipment. How foolish. I learned early that the old electronic store in my town that featured Fisher was the place to go rather than the flashy audio salon who often spoke ill of Our Fisher. Of course they did! It was the standard! And rightly so. The musicality and transparency of The Fisher was remarkable and superior to many of the audio salons offerings. So it became my brand. I went through a course of trial by fire during my thirties, where my life had to be transformed radically and permanently, and all my energies and fincance and entire life were devoted to it and its survival. But once I came through that, and got my bearings again, I gratefully found Fisher again, be the internet's prodigies. And once again I listened. My 210-T is much like the one of my teen years. Recently recapped by a Fisher expert in my home town, a block from the old Fisher dealer! Avery would have loved the sound of his equipment with intput from digital sound. It was if the old equipment had already been waiting for this new, breakthrough musical source. And, as I'm sure you know, Mr. Fisher was very enthusiastic about the emergence of the compact disc, as he articulated to Barabra Diamondstein in that interview. So, well done Rosie, well done! You are the hero of many and in many ways and a special person. Keep up the good work!

Fascinating tribute to Avery Fisher Rosie! I have one of his table top radios that was made in the early 70's. Has tuner push buttons! Still use it and it sounds great. Never had any trouble with it and it plays like a charm! Thank you for this vid!

Never heard of Avery Fisher until right now. I've been using Fisher stereos for decades, got one going right now listening to this. I have 6 three way speakers, (including several Fishers) and a 15 inch Eminence hooked to my computer. It cranks.
