Border brush is awesome! Thanks for sharing. A nice way for collars, ruffled cuffs and skirts, etc. Still learning Blender as I'm currently a Zbrush user. I like the usage of the link brush for "posing" and the mask and colored face sets brush similar to Zbrush . But tbh, I do like the transform control (pivot, rotate, scale) a bit better in Zbrush though. I'm trying to think if there is a better way in Zbrush to achieve the border brush features though. Maybe selecting the border (can also select masked border with zmodeler too), then turning on array mesh or maybe radial symmetry (with brushes or cloth sim) but there is probably a better way.
@Noggi_3D2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I wish blender would adopt the way the transformation tools work in Zbrush.

And odd thing that I noticed with the falloff curves, is that I have to set the "Tip Roundness" to something high like 1, to be able to see the effect of the curves on the brush. Otherwise, the alpha gets cut off and all the falloff curves end up looking the same when you sculpt. It had me confused for a while thinking the curves were not working because the default setting is 0.

I like your tutorial, but man, Blender needs a streamlined user friendly version. Having to access multiple menus for just about every tiny sculptural detail is so much minutia for an artist to get bogged down with. In the early days of Photoshop and similar software, we had really affordable (like paying $5-$15 once and never again) or free sculpting tools that practically gave you digital clay/play-doh to work with. You could select "sculpt" or "smooth" or "chisel" or various textures and edges to apply and simply start modifying your project as though you had a ball of clay and your mouse was the fingers. This feels like complex coding for every single step. Like...if I wanted to build a model car in real life, that wouldn't necessarily mean I want to go out and mine the metal myself, and forge it in a foundry, and pour in into molds, and cure, and grind, and sand it, just to create every teeny tiny wheel axle or hubcap on my model car myself before I ever even got to the modeling phase for every single project. I have been hoping for years that Blender would get user friendly and it still sucks. I mean, it's great if you want to spend a thousand hours doing geometry before you get around to making art. Maybe I'm no good at 3D coding/modeling, but this software breaks my brain. Memorizing a thousand different hotkey combinations is not efficient. I want to design modeling software that artists can use. Anyone smart enough to memorize the nuts and bolts of Blender should consider collaborating through GitHub or Slack, or something, to take all of the steps you're doing and code some freeware that simplifies the infinite steps and puts them into a user friendly set of buttons/toggles that don't require first specifying axes and/or locking in rotational fields, or upward sliding chisel reaction flow speed, or whatever other rambling set of parameters in a sea of more parameters Blender has been mashing our brains with. It has to be stopped. Haha. Kidding kind of, but you get the idea. We had this product already and it was better, faster, easier to use, and produced beautiful animation, not...you know...polygons. 😂
@Kirbedev2 жыл бұрын
Blender has plenty of hotkeys, and there are guides to this. And also, Blender isn't limited to modeling. It includes animation, shading/texturing, lighting, rendering, and so on.
@Noggi_3D2 жыл бұрын
I actually think Photoshop and Blender are pretty similar. You don't necessarily need to fiddle around with all the complex settings. The basic sculpting brushes can create everything you want. But if you want to work a little faster you can use the more complex Brushes and settings. But starting Blender can definitely be very daunting. :)
@TamaraKane2 жыл бұрын
@@Kirbedev the things you're describing can be and have been more user friendly in the past, and in softwares Americans don't always have access to. I was complaining about the need for endless memorization of hotkeys, not trying to find out if they exist. I'm aware that they exist. They're not intuitive for people who don't want to learn an entirely new keyboard language in order to paint. Sorry if this comes across in a snarky fashion. There's no negative tone here. I'm looking forward to a return to some more efficient methods to render, sculpt, light, and animate scenes. I'm aware Blender does those things, it simply does them like a Vogon does poetry. I'm not looking to take Blender away from people who love it. I'm merely recognizing that this still isn't accessible to the majority of artists. Those who can navigate it routinely are impressive, though I don't envy them the loss of time in rendering out tiny polygons one millimeter at a time. 😁
@TamaraKane2 жыл бұрын
@@Noggi_3D Photoshop also used to be a lot more streamlined. There's a bunch of bloat that I think should be preset rather than stuff an artist has to essentially code for every project. I'm not arguing with you about the quality or customizability that's possible. And, like I said, your tutorial is useful. It's one of the best I've seen on the topic. I'm critiquing the interface. I'm still going to make new software because why not? 🤓
@alex150952 жыл бұрын
You don't necessarily need to memorize hotkeys. You can press F3 to open a search and simply type the operation you're trying to apply
