Well,since my 10 gl uns 60s is 7” tall I’m thinking about change my lousy tropica 60 passive co2 with a proper system! I’ll try to put an atomizer just below that powerhead,and see how things will go! It should be powerful enough to spread my co2 all around the tank. It does skim the surface too,so I could possibly be able to get rid of the skim 350 (I love it but it’s ways too big for my tank) I’ll definitely give it a shot!

Wow. I've never seen one of these unboxed. Great job pointing out all the details, Sean. These really are incredible! A filtering, skimming, flow controlling, heater cradling, non priming, floater valving contraption housed in an attractive box? Sign me up. Have to imagine the skimmer will do a nice job on any bio-film buildup at the top of the tank. This is like the Maserati of filters - SICCE and the Italians - thought of everything. I don't mind the Fluval/Aquaclears I have but boy do I want to try out one of these Tidals. 👍 Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you so much for your review!! I was trying to decide on a filter -and I *really* wanted one that was self-priming, as our power 'flickers' a lot here. Yours was the first review I saw, so you are the one who brought my attention to the Tidal initially - thank you! Then I watched / read as much other info as I could. Finally, I ended up getting the Tidal 55 for my 29gallon tank. I just got it so I haven't had it long enough to make full judgement on it yet - but so far, I really like it! I'm setting up a new tank - my first tank in many many years & I hadn't even started cycling yet, because my prior filter died on me just as I was getting going. My water was a bit murky - and it cleared up within about 2-3 hours! (I did add Purigen to the filter basket, among other things...) And I cannot believe how **quiet** this filter is - I honestly cannot hear it at ALL, not even when I'm standing right next to the tank!!! (Other than the water trickling down, as I have my water level low-ish right now, while I'm still tinkering w/ arranging things in the tank - but personally, I find that to be a rather pleasant soothing sound.. Once I fill the tank completely, I don't believe there will be any sound at all! The Tidal seems to have a lot of good features & it really does feel as if it's quite sturdy & well-built! I think I'm going to be very happy with it! I had considered the Aqueon, just because it was lower cost & was the only other self-priming HOB I saw -- but I am really glad I spent the extra money for the Tidal! Thank you again for helping in my decision!

I have always liked the fluval C series HOB filters I used and continue to use a lot of them also fluval canisters. Aquaclear has always been good to any aquarist as long as you maintain them they last forever! I know the tidal has the sicce pump which I am just getting to know in the saltwater reefing community because I have a couple of them. I almost bought this for my saltwater tank just to have the built in skimmer but would not be enough as I ended up buying a protein skimmer instead to help with the issue and it has the sicce needle wheel pump as it's power source so I guess I get the sicce pump either way but way more money. I am glad you are happy with it those penguins have been going long before I was on here and started with fish so you got your moneys worth out of them! I really like that skimmer built in I just may pick one of these up I have thought about it a couple times.

Just getting back into the hobby after someone gave me my original 20 gallon high setup back. y The Fluval 206 I had with it has seen better days and I was agonizing whether to buy the parts to make it work, or to get a new filter. I've used Aquaclear filters, but was almost ready to get a Fluval C3 HOB - I saw this at Benson's pet center - the first time I've seen one, and decided to give it a try. It's great. My only knock on it is there isn't much in the way of foam mechanical filtration that comes with it. Solved by adding some filter floss. My only question for you - why didn't you use the matrix that comes with the unit? It looks to be exactly the same as what you used (pumice). Just curious.

Funny you mention the 206. I just got a free replacement warranty control valve from Fluval since mine was leaking. I'm still ready to sell my 206 and get this HOB filter. The canister is such a task to clean and makes mess when doing so.

Your video got my attention. I’ll be setting up a 125 Gallon Acrylic Tank soon. Does the Tidal Filter people have one big enough for a 125? It will be heavily planted tank, so I think I won’t need a big Canister Filter. Neither will use any Carbon, because I think it will absorb the nutrients from the tank. I’ve used both kinds of filters on a 55 Gallon Tank before. I liked them both, but I’m thinking about what would be best? Any advice would be welcome. I enjoyed watching! Thank you for sharing this video on the Tidal HOB.

Better to use two 75 Tidals. Good for 150 USG and 700 GPH (350 each). DON'T put Anything in the white Media Bin except SEACHEM products. The mesh bags that hold the Matrix and also Carbon act as Mechanical Filtration. Rinse out each water change.

My issue with this setup and the stock setup by Seachem is that there is insufficient mechanical filtration to remove med/fine debris. It bypasses the coarse foam and clogs the bio-media displacing bacterial biofilms. Brand new bio-media is especially vulnerable because the pores are totally vacant. Something is going to fill the pores and you do not want solid waste doing it before the ~30 days it takes to establish the beneficial bacteria. This is a great product review, and I love all the new features which is a great addition to the crowded filter marklet. Its nice to see novel ideas and innovation in the old HOB! Thanks Pecktec

What's your opinion of the bypass? I've got a 75 and as you know, there's that big rectangular window at the front of the basket. A decent amount of tank water flows through that window and back into the tank, unfiltered. Also, even at 50% flow, water flows over the back of the basket and flows back into the tank, unfiltered. You think there's a design rationale for this? I've got 3 pads (two coarse, one medium, and matrix/rings filled up to half-way up that "bypass window". I'm thinking of taping off that window. Thanks.

I just purchased a 20 gal long as my local petstore was having their dollar per gallon sale (couldn't resist). I've been debating between Fluval C3, Aquaclear 50 or Tidal 55 for my filtration. I plan on adding ceramic media and prefilter sponge to either of these options to increase bioload. From what I understand you can reduce the Tidal 55 flow by up to 80% but I'm concerned it might be a bit much for a 20 long...so tempting though...can it be done?!?! Anyhow, was just wondering what you would recommend for this tank. It will be planted, thinking shrimp, oto's and a large single species schooling fish. Thanks in advance for your time and keep the videos coming! Always a pleasure to watch and learn :) Anyone else think he looks like he may be related to Wolverine? :D
@pecktec7 жыл бұрын
It will be a lot of flow but if you get fish that like that it could be good. A 20 long may not be deep enough however as the tidal has the pump on the inside which makes it a bit longer.
@jengsaquatics6897 жыл бұрын
Aha, I hadn't considered the depth. Good point! I'll look further into the Fluval C series and the Aquaclear. I really want to add as much extra media as I possibly can to maximize bioload. So should I mod the fluval edge so the ac30 will fit and use the ac20 on new tank? or the tidal? we also have cats so I'm thinking I need a skimmer or a price of glass cut for top. not sure what to do? help

Yes, the Tidal 55 would LIKELY be too big, unless you're running it at its lowest flow rate, then it may be okay. Just my opinion going off the listed flow rate of the filter.

Hello! Can i use a tidal 55 for a 15 gallon? Because the tidal 35 does not have much features or the intake pipe, so i really would prefer the 55, but it also might be a bit overkill. What do you think? Does smaller tanks matter?
@pecktec9 ай бұрын
Because the pump is in the water it goes a little too deep for a 20.

@@pecktec for the tidal 55? The filter fits on it
@pecktec9 ай бұрын
Yes it’s way too big and physically too long unless it’s a 20 high.

How does it push the water through the media? Does it do bottom-up like a canister filter and Aquaclears or does it go back to front like pretty much all other HoB's?
@pecktec7 жыл бұрын
+varanidguy bottom up.

Can't believe I missed this video x.x I want one of these but I worry the flow might be too strong for a 29 gallon aquarium.

I usually just run with the Aqueon QuietFlows since they have never failed me but decided to give this filter a go. After some time I found it needs more maintenance than my other filters. Versus the QuietFlows that last up to two weeks or more before clogging, this filter clogs within 4 days and it's not any easier clean because you have to maintenance the entire basket whereas the Aqueon requires you just swap a cartdrige. I like the design and surface skimmer but being that the flow feeds from the bottom of the filter box it clogs WAY to quickly. Imho, the Aqueon QuietFlows are a better bang for your buck.

How is it working out for you since it has been a few weeks? Some people are saying theirs clogs too easily and it just goes into the overflow area.
@pecktec7 жыл бұрын
+Tavish McGinty well it will never completely all go to the overflow. So far cleaning once a week with my water change has been plenty. I have lots of driftwood and it will clog up any filter. So I do have to rinse it out once a week. But that was true with the others I've had so I don't count that as a negative.

Que lastima que no haya traducción al español para este excelente video. De 20 videos que he visto sobre los filtros tidal este es el único que explica acerca del funcionamiento del skiner. Gracias por hacer videos de excelente calidad con información!!!

My 55 gallon tank is only 3 inches away from the wall. Will it fit
@pecktecАй бұрын
I don’t think so. That’s a bit tight. You definitely want an air gap also so drywall doesn’t get messed up.

@@pecktec is it narrow enough to fit on the side of the tank ?

do you regret getting the exact size filter for your tank. I'm considering getting one but I think I want to over filter and but the biggest model so I have the ability to turn the filter down to a lower setting for my for my 50 gallon and then I also have room to upgrade to a bigger tank. what is your opinion on this filter.

its on there with another filter other wise i would have gone bigger.
