Very interesting! I'm Italian and I didn't know we are so passionate about watches I actually started last November and went a bit crazy 😂 bought a few broken(or they say) watches on eBay and timex is really the first one that I could get alive again Biiig pain to reassemble but now is working great

This was very interesting and I really enjoyed the walk through Timex history! I myself have some Timex watches, a lot of the electric, and I can't help myself because there are so many models that look really great from the 50's, 60's, and early 70's.

Thanks for another very fine video. I am not much into Timex watches but living in the Northeast US and being a collector I got to know some Timex engineers who attended our meetings. They were very knowledgeable and very smart. Making that many watches and having them work required very skilled engineering and manufacturing process control. They made some a very interesting jeweled movement. It had a De Long lever in it. This is lever with ruby pins. Several US makers like Hamilton tried to make it and could not hold tolerances but Timex put their version into mass production and it worked well. They were very early with Titanium cased watches. I drove about 50 miles to buy one and i still have it. It cost about $50. They were not widely distributed. More common models were sold in display stands in nearly every drug store in the US.

My father bought me a Timex sprite in 1979 - my first watch. It had a hard life with me falling off bikes, climbing trees, falling out of trees etc but it carried on without fault; I'd listen to the ticking in lessons and watch the second hand tick round - it started my love of watches. I lost the watch years ago but didn't forget it. Last year when I cleared my parent's house I found it in one of my boxes in the attic - it still works.

That's a great collection. I love the 1970's vintage styles. The first watch I remember having as a child in the 70s was a mechanical Timex. I don't remember much about it apart from the light green lume pips.

Wonderful video. I am also an avid Timex collector though not as avid as Rosier. I mainly collect vintage and reissue Q’s. I have all 6 styles of the Qs from the inaugural year in 1972; 4 of them with the original boxes. I have a Q every year from 1972 to 1987, then the beginning of the reissues from 2019-2023.

Wow what a fantastic collection! I've been wearing watches since I'm 10. I'm now 65. My first watch was a Timex. I think my mom got it at the department store. I would love an Electric!

I fell in love with vintage Timex a couple of years ago. I love that you can get them for next to nothing and have a reliable watch. I also love the variety within the brand. Thanks to Rosier for bringing what we love to the attention of the masses

10:11 still have my first watch my father keep it it’s manual wounded still working but the date is a pain 😢 if you missed power reserve need to turn it lots of times to reach the correct date 😁 and it’s from 70’s small piece amazing it still works never was serviced it’s only Timex in my collection

Yes, the donkey and the elephant are still representative of the two parties. As your guest mentioned, not used as much anymore, but still recognized.

I have the same watch @ 36:13 it was my grandfather's. It has been in storage for 45 years and is in for repair now. Mine is likely a Canadian purchased model and doesn't have the numbers on the dial. Do you know what year it was sold? By the way while searching for info on my watch I found online many formally US enlisted men claiming to have got their Timex watches through the army. I can dig up the link if you are interested.

Hi Kalle and Rochet, hope that spelling is not terrible, i personally do like movements with jewels, but Timex and a couple of others did make it possible for everyone to aquire themselves a nice looking timepiece, i recently baught a movement in a Larex watch 15 jewel with a pin lever escapement, it's not terrible, it's from the 70s when the companys started to say more jewels the better, because it's engraved on the train bridge 30 jewels i recently saw a 41 jewel Rotary the movement was an eta 2452 and the reversing wheels had a jewel in each of the holes on them, did have 41 jewels but some did nothing may have made it last less time between servicing. Cool video guys

3:24 great! Love Certina have 2 DS Action divers one some “watchmaker” serviced it and the stem was damaged what he did was shorten it 😠 a real bad job ! Wish I could I’m thinking But it’s hard to try a course watchmaker in Portugal plus expensive tools and in Algarve there’s no watchmaker school…

Timex have a well earned position in watchmaking. I love the fact that they built a product to do the job and were proud to advertise that. It also did the job very well indeed. I'm looking to add a few Timex to my collection.

52:58 congratulations to an amazing history by Timex today we don’t have these great “posters” and cool designs lots of micro brands all following the trends no history behind and Timex could relaunch is amazing designs I bet they will make huge success! Do know the Merlin diver very nice watch but can’t find it in Portugal in Spain they still sell them here it’s all about Swiss watches or cheap “fashion brands made in China “ and cheap quartz no quality at least Casio watches do keep cool designs but not as nice as some of these nice Timex’s mechanical versions nice 👌!

I paid $1 for a Timex at a flea market recently. It was running but occasionally stopped. I dipped it in some brake fluid, oiled it and now it's running great. Type 24/20 movements are simple, but I'd never try to work on it.

Awesome video. Rosier has a wonderful collection of vintage Timex pieces. My collection pales in comparison to his. I have 178 vintage and modern Timex pieces in my collection but my most cherished is the entire collection of 1972 Q Quartz “Time Machines” in their original boxes most with their original bracelets.

My first watch, probably in the mid nineteen sixties, was a basic Timex. Over the years I had others, like an early LCD model, and a few Ironman, Indiglo and pre-Indiglo. They never let me down. Then a couple of years back a kind gentleman gave me an Accutron to try to bring back to life. With that Accutron he included another, a very cool, and very seventies, Timex Q quartz that is referred to as the "Time Machine". It is huge, and has the look of wood grain to the dial. It ran for a while after replacing the battery, but stopped not long after. I'm not sure about getting in there and fixing it, as they're very different in design than what I'm used to. Nice Timex collection. Thanks for the interview and fashion show. BTW, Kalle, I'd love to someday hear your opinion on Accutron tuning fork watches. Cheers.

I recognise them from the 60’s and 70’s. It was the first watch I bought myself and the last one I bought was their first Indiglo. I have always loved Timex watches both electrical and mechanical. I also have a couple of Ingersol $1 pocket watches which still work well!

Gosh really hope you do something when you get back from Athens on the Antikythera an amazing object. I love the Dutch love of astronomy exemplified by the amazing Horologist Christiaan Van Der Klaauv Let alone the amazing planetarium you did a clip about in the room of a house!! Great stories well told!!!! 👏🏼🙏

7:00 that movement : i opened once one non-working movement inside a Kelton 🇫🇷 (French Timex ?) & pin leaver was worn, so i never tried to assemble it back [*]... However 3 screws to get everything aligned, no ruby, etc ... i'm almost sure it would have been Very Difficult 🤔 [*] i still have the case where the plating is leaving / but crystal, dial, hands were perfect

I don't think you once talked about the accuracy of Timex watches perhaps maybe even over the years between mechanical models and automatics. I would love to know that information as it progressed over the years.

отличное видео! большое спасибо! у меня есть электрические Timex с датой и числом месяца, в нержавеющем корпусе с покрытием позолотой. это реально часы электромеханика. никаких кварцев, транзисторов, микросхем. только элемент питания, катушка, размыкающий контакт и магнит. Всё! и ни с чем не сравнимый звук механизма❤

I have a few of them. I remember my day taking his Timex apart and soaking it in lighter fluid and then using a light weight oil to and reassemble it. It ran perfectly for decades.

Wow, fascinating. I thought that Timex was a totally UK watch as some of the dials state made in Great Britain. I have a Timex 1961 service manual that covers models 21, 22, 23, 26 and 29 movements. The manual was from a Timex factory in Dundee Scotland. Really interesting stuff about a cheap workhorse of a watch. 🤓👍⌚

Those dial numbers are what you need to identify parts for the watch... hands, stem/crown/crystal, etc.

So if you can’t fix it, Insee a similarity with the concept, of System 51. Less screws and can’t be disassembled. What would that Timex cost in today’s dollars? Would it be comparable to a System 51? Food for thought.

I look at pictures of my relatives from the 70's in Ohio and California. I look at the watches they were wearing and, I'm convinced that they are all Timex!

Hello, very appreciate this journey through Timex brand. Very interesting to learn about the large variety of the models. Just a small comment, Timex can yes be compared to Kelton brand, but really different than Lip. Lip is a very long story, and they really have been innovative technologically (too long to comment here). It was not at all a cheap brand. In the 70s, a lip diver cost the same as a Rolex diver… Really, two very different brands, story and characteristics. Yes, in the 70s, there was a lot of different designs in Lip, but they ask the best designers of that time to draw very innovative designs, ancestor of the collaborations we see nowadays so much. Again, nothing to do with Timex. But yes, Timex is very similar to Kelton.

They are the zombies of watches, they just keep going. Servicing them are an exercise in patience and frustration, but exhilerating when you nail it. Usually a naphtha soak while running, a rinse in alcohol while running, and a little oil and your done.
