Her tone and choice of songs may not be many peoples faves but her technique. Her ease. Her agility. Her belts. Plus her teachings is honestly helpful.
@KajiVocals3 жыл бұрын
I’d also add ‘musicality’ to things that people might dislike. She sure has a good technique but unfortunately her musical choices and phrasing aren’t that good compared (that ‘I’m Here’ cover...). She is still pretty young though so that will probably change.

@@stanner200 what is vulnerability, that sounds very subjective. I think when singing certain songs she can show vulnerability when she needs to, but also she enjoys teaching and isn't exactly focused on performing as much now so it makes sense that her technique and knowledge is the asset .

I'm not always a fan of her tone, particularly when she is using a very heady mix. Also, I don't love how she tends to use broadway enunciation, even when singing pop at times but I love her for her amazing technique alone. She is great at pop singing when she wants to be and her tone is beautiful when doing so. I feel like she is in complete control of her voice and she can almost do whatever she wants with it!

The guy you saw onstage wasn’t singing. He and Natalie do this bit where she and him pretend he’s the singer and she isn’t, so she’ll be singing offstage or behind him and they’ll pretend it’s coming from him. Then when she comes onstage, he’ll disappear and actually sing poorly while she’s lip syncing to him 😂 so the B2 did come from her.

yall it’s not about her tone, it’s about the way that sometimes it feels like she just engages her vocal technique but doesn’t really go past that..,
@graysang53863 жыл бұрын
can you elaborate this statement?
@aaronnewman75733 жыл бұрын
@@graysang5386 (this is a personal opinion, ik it’s subjective but whether we like it or not, subjectivity matters) sometimes it feels as though natalie ONLY focuses on technique. even her ornamentations, while they are perfect on a technical level, don’t seem to add much emotional depth to the song. i. e. her performance of i’m here from the color purple (which she has since apologized for) i like her voice and i like her vocal choices, but there’s a clear emotional disconnect between her and the audience imo and while it’s an opinion, it matters. if you sing something and i don’t feel moved, if i don’t believe you, it doesn’t really hold much significance in my opinion (and ik many others who feel the same way about her)
@aaronnewman75733 жыл бұрын
@@graysang5386 on a technical level though, she’s pretty amazing. and she’s not TERRIBLE with her interpretive skills (like she was really good during her rendition of she used to be mine, all her riffs and runs, belts, etc. were musically, technically AND emotionally significant) i just think there’s room for improvement
@graysang53863 жыл бұрын
@@aaronnewman7573 ah i see. i actually agree with you! a little confession, i *used* to like her "i'm here" performance (💀) but i was ignorant back then to not know the historical backgroud of the song and how natalie disrespected it. it's embarassing tbh. on the other side, i get bored too, on some of her performances because i'm already expecting something neat and refine from her - unlike when whitney or beyonce sings, they include stylistic choices sometimes and it's really interesting. as of now though, i see natalie trying hard to put on emotions and also teaches her students to do things that would make it more emotional. for instances, using dynamics and tone modification to give certain mood and changes to the song. i mean, it's still engaged with technique but she's putting effort on it to do so. maybe she's getting awareness on some criticisms to her 😅 and yeah, she has nothing to prove in her technique at all. she just needed to know how to pick way better choices that would click and give punch to audiences
@aaronnewman75733 жыл бұрын
@@graysang5386 exactlyyy. i think people who discuss vocals are so obsessed with having a perfect technique, that they forget that having a purpose is arguably MORE important. bc although technique keeps your instrument healthy, sustainable, and performing its best, it’s all in vain if you have nothing to say

the clips chosen for upper belts were far from her most refined ones. and her voice sits on almost the same tessitura with ariana. even on her lows, her voice is still placed high
