It's an unintentional way for plants to avoid extinction. Once humans find a good use for a plant and begin cultivating it, that plant is very unlikely to ever go extinct. Look at tomatoes. I was a plant once, I was tripping on shrooms at the time. It was a beautiful sunny day and I was lying down in the grass of my friends garden. It felt like I was in a David Attenborough documentary on the garden of eden, birds flying all around and I even saw a pheasant. Lying down in the grass with no shirt I felt the sun beating down on my back,I was photosynthesizing and growing roots. I wasn't moving but I could feel myself growing along with the plants that surrounded me. There was one particular white clover flower that I was focusing with my 'third eye',I felt like we were sharing information but I just couldn't comprehend it. When the trip was over I was kinda depressed, my incarnation as a plant was the happiest I had ever been.

@@haniejoycemallorca1239.. Interesting, I did some research on it, and got the story behind it. Well, once upon a time, there was a princess named Kaniawati. Because of her beauty, many princes from other regions came to propose her. But she was so shy, so she repeatedly reject them, she didn't even reveal her face for them. Nevertheless, somehow, a prince Jaka Amparan made it into her room, and accidentally saw her face to face. Due to her excessive shame, she fell down and faint. Local people linked this story with Mimosa Pudica, they thought this princess has similar act and behavior, just like this plant. So they called this plant "Putri Malu" which means "Shy Princess".

Great information, way to go. We can see nations that have covered lands with or with out certain plants. As a defence and/or protection.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I know mimosa plant does not exactly fold this way, the only think I can add to that is "just imagine it's folding in the animation as it should" !

I just watched this video in 2022 because I was looking for anything to support a theory I have made. I have a large Bur Oak , Quercus macrocarpa in my yard that has dropped an alarming number of leaves over the past 24 hours. Upon examination, virtually all of the dropped leaves have kermes scale on them. I am wondering if the oak could be aborting the infected leaves as a defense to the infestation, dropping them before the scale reach the crawler stage. I would love to hear your thoughts on my theory.
