I absolutely love my Scribe as I’m one who prefers reading a larger page which resembles that of a hardcover book (without the heft). I’m not too interested in the notebook elements, it’s mostly a reader for me. Thanks for the review.

I bought my Scribe during the Summer Prime day sale primarily for travel. I wanted a Paperwhite. I agree that not being able to write on the page is a major flaw. But I like that I can use the notebook for long form journaling. It eliminates hauling around a lot of paper weight of books and notebooks. The battery life is fantastic. I'm happy that I have it.

Your videos are always my go to for kindle purchases! I did just buy the scribe for the Black Friday sale. 😂 I hesitated and teetered on it for the last couple of months, but I do a lot of annotating for fun and school. And one of the great features I noticed in my research is that when you want to pull up all the notes you took and sections you highlighted, it’ll gathering everything for you which saves time from having to flip through the text and transfer those notes (something that is very time consuming). So, I think it’ll save me some time (it typically can take 8-20 hours depending on the book) and a massive headache. This just means that my scribe will be my at home reader (which I do the most), my oasis will revert to my outdoor/at work/travel kindle, and my mom will inherit my paperwhite (since she reads once in a while). Thank you for an amazing video and for sharing!

I've been considering this upgrade for a while now. I feel like you saved me a big chunk of money. Once they come out with the ability to simply write ON the page, then I might make the leap, but without that ability I just don't think I'd end up using it over my Oasis.

I've had Kindles since they were first released. I've never ever wanted to write on my books so, for me, I really don't care if that's an option or not. I liked the page turn buttons on other Kindles but found the tap to turn or swiping works much better for me. I didn't buy the Scribe to read books, although I do sometimes, I bought it for my PDF crochet and knitting patterns. Those I write on and it's absolutely awesome for that! I also wanted the templates for notes, calendars and check lists. My Scribe was well worth the price and does almost everything I want. Automatic orientation would be great. Also an option to change the screen timeout would be nice. I bought a case that the Scribe snaps into and rotates without moving the case itself. I also bought the premium pen which I highly recommend. One thing that truly sucks about the Scribe is the browser! They should just remove it completely because it's totally useless. For me, I didn't care about a browser so it's fine that it doesn't work. All in all, I'm super happy with my Scribe! Just my opinion of course.

I love my Kindle Scribe. I have really bad astigmatism, which makes it impossible for me to read on an iPad at night. My eyes begin to water, and I cry like a waterfall. Especially if the room is somewhat darkened so as to not disturb my wife while she is sleeping. I use the notes all the time. I use it for reminders on books to check out. Next books in the series. To read lists in various genres. Admittedly I am a list guy. I also write notes for various stories I am writing. I do wish I could write directly on the page and hope they fix that down the road.

I have the scribe and the paper white. Due to a neurological condition I can not read for more than 15 minutes or so on a computer screen so the kindle works wonderful for me and was recommended to me by my neurologist. I prefer the scribe as I can change the font to a size that works with or with out my glasses, I can make notes, it can be flipped into landscape and two columns or just keep it on one column and I can read my manga on it with ease. I tend to use the paper white more when I am traveling and need to save space or just want to read. I do miss the turn page keys but will wait to see if the update the oasis or change another model for that. An oasis e color tan would be the best of both worlds.

I love my Scribe and my Scribe Tribe! 🙌🏻 I annotate, make lists, BookTube video notes, video ideas, etc. I love that my handwritten notes can be accessed from any Kindle App. I just started getting into creating writable PDF’s and write-on books have started dropping since the last software update - mostly puzzle books and journals - it’s only a matter of time until we can write on the actual text. The premium pen through the bundle is worth it. The case is junk. The edging of it frays over time. I picked up a cheap plastic origami shell case and LOVE IT so much more. Kindle books and Amazon…is it ours? Well, I see it as a long term loan that will be gone if the Amazon servers die. LOL. Fair review Mile! I wish it had buttons too! Cheers! ☕️ MJ

I use the notebook on my Scribe daily. I bought it mainly as a digital notebook, it just happened to be a kindle too. I was looking at other digital notebooks at the time and realized that the Scribe had released some months before. I already used kindle so it seemed like a win/win and for me it was. I still occasionally use my Oasis but the bigger screen on the Scribe is very nice. The white does seem whiter on the Oasis, and the buttons are nice. I also don’t use a case, I got an envelope style tablet bag to put this in. It’s so much nicer. I paid for the 64 gig version, do not do that lol

I like the magnetic cover because I like to use it without the cover when I'm using it for reading. I absolutely love the feel of it without the cover. I do alot of Bible study and Journaling and this thing is perfect for that. Now I basicly just use my Oasis for in bed and on the go reading. All in all, if I had to choose I think I would go with the scribe. Its a joy to read on and the notebooks and extra features are a win.

I like the general direction of the Scribe but i will not be buying it until we have the abiility to import custom templates/pages to use as notebook pages. I make a lot of worksheets for planners and language learning exercises and being able to add a variety of pages is essential for that. Boox has this ability down, as does samsung notes. But I'm hopeful it will come to the scribe as my reading is very much in the kindle ecosystem. Kindle unlimited is the best resource for graded readers.

Just wanted to say that as far as I know, the Oasis absolutely has the ability to save notes in it. Obviously not with a stylus, but there should be a text box that pops up when you hold down on something you’ve highlighted. I do it all the time on my Paperwhite. It even syncs with Goodreads when you connect your Amazon account so is a good way to save notes from a Kindle library book. (Sorry if this is a repeat. I think it deleted my first comment).
@graham1735 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that makes me think the “sticky notes” are a bit of a con… I’ve been reading reviews but as far as I can see it’s no different from making a note on my Oasis except that you can do it in your handwriting instead. I can type notes too on my IPad Kindle app. Can someone tell me if I’ve got this wrong? Size of text and the ability to write are pluses though but I think the sticky notes idea has been mis-sold.

I upgraded my 2014 Kindle paperwhite last Christmas, and ultimately ended up just going for the lowest model Kindle for $100. I don't need the note-taking ability, and I didn't like the larger size and heavier weight of the newer paperwhites. I'm very satisfied. Still fits nicely in my hand, battery life is longer. Its page refresh feels slower and the wakeup is slower, but not enough to matter. Don't bother to pay for ad free - there are no meaningful ads, anyway, unless you're offended by the book plugs on the sleep screen.

I just want a Paperwhite with a bigger screen and MOST of all: bluetooth support for a small remote so you don't have to move your hand to flip the pages. You may think that sounds extremely lazy, and it is ;-) But I use my Kindle while laying down all the time without holding it.

Like you, my eyes are not great and having more on screen to see more at a glance is important to me. I'm using this a lot more then the Oasis. Well I do wish we could write directly on a Kindle book the sticky notes are still useful to me for language study. In my primary use for the pain is to mark up PDFs which I use for my coursework I actually use it as a second digital device in class. I do my primary note taking in OneNote on my Surface Pro but I use the Scribe to keep a reference work or supporting text open to refer to and to make minor notes on that. So for me it is a game-changer and much appreciated even though I agree it would be nice to have color someday and I would like the option of writing directly on a book. But I had done my research and that was not my expectation

I bought one in August. I wish the case didn't fold from the top, would rather it fold from the side like other kindles, plus the case is really pricey. I, too, want to be able to write in the margins of books. Hopefully, this is something that can be addressed in the future via a software update. Another complaint of mine is that I wish you could just go straight from a book to the notebook or vice versa. Instead, you need to tap at the top, then go to the main menu, then go to "Library" or "Notebooks." That switchover could be more seamless. Overall, though, I do love it. I enjoy landscape mode reading--the narrower reading columns equals faster reading times. It's also the only notebook that I use now. I don't use paper notebooks anymore. Separately, I gave the Rocket notebook a try, but that is a total disaster.

Posting this here in case someone gets some use out of this. I use the kindle app on android and today attempted to purchase a different audible version of Fellowship of the Ring (Andy Serkis). The new purchase was downloaded but there was now way for me to switch back to my older one (Rob Inglis). I think both audible copies were simulatenously downloaded but only the newer Andy Serkis version was available and after I got my refund and redownloaded my older Rob Inglis version was immediately available. Moral of the story: don't attempt to use seperate versions of an audible book and expect the kindle app to switch between them. Maybe some day they'll make that work since with their immersive reading tracking you should be able to move back and forth between narrators on the fly. Posted here since Mike's kindle videos are some of the only I watch when it comes to kindle 😂 PS I agree, stick bottons on everything Amazon...

It’s great for reading manga.

I can certainly see that.

The fact that it doesn't let you draw/doodle on everything is what makes it not worth it to me. I feel like because I'm both an artist and a reader I kept seeing ads for this one that made it look like this cool "draw on your books" device and it seems based on your feedback it's not as versatile as adverrtised. I will stick with my cute lil kindle paperwhite. Also, I know some viewers were getting on you about this review so thanks for getting it out to us! If you ever need tabletop camera tips I have some. :)

Right? Feels like a huge misdirection in marketing.

That case for the scribe is shocking!!!!!!

I have the Scribe and I love using it more when I sideload the PDFs because I can write on the page. With Kindle books and ePubs that is not possible. However, the reading is really nice as it resembles the size of a hardcover book, which means you get to see the page fully.

Boox devices are superior for notetaking and they have color models out now. The problem is it costs double what the Scribe does atm
