Well done, young man, well done!!!! I hope you had time to walk all along Jackson's position in the Unfinished Railroad Cut (even into the bug- and mosquito-ridden forests!!!), as well as many other great sights at that field!!

It is highly likely that even if the Union had known that Henry was in that house at the time, they would still have fired on it if they thought sharpshooters were inside. Portraying Union soldiers as being concerned about civilians belies the carnage perpetrated on the town of Fredricksburg at the end of 1862.

I have not been to Bull Run before so it was nice seeing the visual of how the area looks like.

The war started at Fort Sumpter in April in 1861. That seems odd that 4 months latter till this battle. May have taken time to recruit and get ready for training for next battle.

Poor Judith. As a retired police officer said, "Don't worry about the bullet that has your name on it. Worry about the one that says to whom it may concern."

I could see soldiers throwing rocks because it took so long to load ammunition.

Funny thing is your not too far off from the truth. There were little isolated battles in manassas and one I remember in particular they were throwing rocks..

Indeed. Much less complicated to hurl a stone than to get out your ramrod, tear open a cartridge, empty into the barrel of your musket, ram it home, get a cap and place it on the firing pin......etc., etc., etc., and all under fire....

At the 2nd Battle of Manassas in 1862 Starkes Louisiana Brigade actually ran out of ammunition and began hurling rocks at the enemy.
