I was lucky to be able to have a private tour of New Jersey while my ship, USS Bennington and the New Jersey were both tied up to Pier E, Long Beach Naval Shipyard, in early 1969. I was a Machinist Mate and my wife's cousin was a storekeeper on the New Jersey. He took me on a private tour of his ship including a visit to a 16 inch gun mount (where we were given a tour by a Gunner's Mate) and a trip down to one of the two engine room. Jim

Thank you for these older films. Great pieces of history and film from our grandparents and great-grandparents generation rarely now seen. It's a way to reconnect.

Popped up in the feed today. Great to see the dockyard recommissioning pictures alongside the current dry dock period. Expect Ryan S to be there!

I’m not trying to be a know it all but actually the Wisconsin relieved the mighty mo at the end of the war and was the last ship to fire the big 16” guns.

I have to appreciate that in the end they honored many of the dreadnought of the past. No yamato tho?
