Thank you so much for having me on the show Dentaa! I hope our chat can inspire others to look to Ghana and the African continent to build mutually beneficial relationships throughout the diaspora, and I love that your show continues to highlight folks doing just that!

Great conversation! My take as a black person living in America, is that while black panther was a cool movie, it had no real impact on people considering moving. Everyone in the US considers Hollywood to be what it is, which is fantasy. The real changes are coming because of youtube, primarily WODE MAYA and shows like yours, Dentaa. I know a lot of people that are moving, and it's all because social media is showing a different story from the lies told.

This is empowering ! Growing up, I had a great friend Kofi who moved to the US within a short possible time when our Fabric business start rising to a peak. This story to me is very passionate. Remembering, most of his clothes while in the US people asked me where was this made. Great job 👍 I'm motivated

The narrative isn’t that Black Panther made AAs interested in the continent. I’m so tired of her saying that. No, as this young man explains social media is making it easier for the diaspora to engage one another and build bridges. That’s the story, Pan Africanism has largely been the province of academics and social activists. However, with social media everyday people can connect organically and authentically, it’s easier to navigate. But also since Black Panther there seems to be more of a welcoming towards African Americans with overtures from the continent. I’ve not seen this kind of out reach from the continent reaching back ever before in my lifetime. That’s also a big part of the story. @dentaashow should explore that aspect, the continent seems finally ready to welcome folks back.
@claudette20573 жыл бұрын
Hi Erica, In my humble opinion we have been programmed against each other from our former colonial oppressors. They want to make sure that negative stereotypes of each other stick in our minds. Social media ( KZbin) especially for me has broken down so many of the lies they have been able to perpetuate. I'm sure they didn't expect this would happen. My hope is that we realize that we have no friends, and that we need Africans on the continent and those abroad to unite economically, physically, mentally and spiritually. We must find ways to navigate our differences for the future generations to be respected at home and abroad. 😊

In GH, we used to call some of us that were born with white father or white mother "half-casts or morlato". Some of our elders saw them as "bastardized" because White men didn't claim their African children. We treated them as part of our blankness. There was no different among us. If people remember, we used to sing "Say It Loud, I am Black and Proud" by James Brown
@eileenwatt82833 жыл бұрын
Morlato? Is that GH pronunciation? Mulatto is how the west says it. Just checking because U hear some familiar words from Ghanaians but sounds different from how we say it. I wasn't sure if I heard them correctly.

Thank you for this interview. I live in California and am making plans to move to Ghana. I was inspired by Akindunde's story. I have some ideas that I would like to pursue. I'll be in the land for a month at the end of May. I now have a better focus and direction.

Seriously? Dentaa? Why does it have to be an American dream in Ghana? Why can't it be an African or Ghanaian dream? If you are trying to change the narrative then you should go all the way. Otherwise very good episode.

My sister I agree with you! But in the media this is predominantly where they like to portray melanated people! But if I knew one race of people had the DNA to be masters of the planet, I would encourage them and there descendants to purse fields of little economic influence! Stay safe sis.✊🏿

This is the problem with Africans in the Diaspora and Africa. Why would any Black person in their right mind talk about American dream in Africa? There is no such thing as American dream for black folks or people of African descent in America. There is nothing positive in the American constitution for black people. Don't be fooled diasporas. If you're moving moving back home to the Continent to make Africa great, please clean your mind's of the American lies before you go home, there is no place in Africa for American dream. Africa needs Africans to come home and help to build Africa not Africans with American state of mind, please leave that in America. Africa needs African minds we build every Country in the world for free, they do everything evil yo us yet we become stronger, that's how great we are as Africans, now let help build Africa as Africans we are the Greatest people on this planet. (MAKE AFRICA GREATER)
