In 1985, When I realy needed one, I could afford a VW bus on my salary. New it was around 60% of my year salary. Now, with a new price of $85.000 it is around 40% OVER my year salary. So, the price increased way beyond inflation and probably not many can afford that.

Nice.... But at 4:36 on the issue of loading height, it is actually possible to load from the floor level. That rear rack is removable and the third row folded away to get floor level loading height. But that rack was put to enable camping ie to be able to put a mattress over the folded back seats.

Ok ok, but… I owned a 64, and a 69 VW bus, and loved them both. I tricked them out as camper’s. What I would love to see is this long version,300+ mile range, front seats only on delivery, and be able to trick it out as a camper. Ether that or have a Westfalea (probably didn’t spell that right) setup factory built. Just sayin, now that would be a dream VeeDub for me. I regret selling my old bus’s, and would sell my first born to electrify one now. I loved those bus’s (did I say this already?). If Volkswagen is smart (which I don’t think they are) would capitalize on the nostalgia of the VW bus, more than just a resemblance.

It could use a little more character from the past in the design. I'd like to see the vintage design of the round headlights and turn signals used on this reboot. I know that a Safari split windshield is too much to ask, but that would be really cool. As far as new innovation goes, thin film PV cells in the panoramic sunroof would be a great feature that would serve as a means to help charge the battery.

It's undoubtedly a lovely design. Having sat in one it reminds me of two things. 1. It is indeed reminiscent of the VW Transporters and Combis that I have driven over the years, specially the Type 1, 2 and 3 [including 2.5]. 2. That ID Series dash. I quite like the layout in my ID3, so it's a real pity the software is so incredibly crappy on mine. I understand the new software is getting somewhere decent. Just don't sit in a Tesla and interact with that. I have done that too. That's great software. i have heard criticisms of the extended front end. I don't get it. VW had to introduce proper head-on crash protection. The front occupants knees, with or without a massive spare wheel hanging off the front, simply will not do these days. When there's a Camper version I'll sell the house and buy one. Or a European Cybertruck. 😋

The big (85 kWh) battery version has a official range of 460km WLTP (285,8 miles). If you have the money for this van, you will probably also have money for an adapter (CCS to NACS) or maybe VW will already include an adapter, if it still comes with CCS. This van will probably cost more than 70.000$ including taxes.

Our family bus in the same blue and white scheme transported six kids, two dogs, and parents from the Olympic Peninsula to Dover Delaware. When my baby sister was too small to sit in the seat she rode in a basket on the front passenger seat floor where my mother could tend to her. Ahhh those were the days of irresponsible parenting. And to think my dad was a police officer. Our bus finally gave up after five round trips to Delaware. When I was five she caught fire in the driveway after collecting my older siblings from school. The family upgraded to an ultra plush extended conversion van. We went from vinyl slip n slide hard bench seats, no carpeting or headliner, making the VW bus a loud echo chamber as eight of us yell over each other, the loud engine and our own echos, to a world of luxury.. That new van had it all..... a velour couch, plush wool carpet, a furnace, AC, suede leather covered walls, suede headliner, curtains to block the hot sun, leather chairs, a sink, cassette toilet to pull out on the roadside, refrigerator, and real suspension. This was a massive upgrade for our big dogs too. Hahah

The reason we don't have the small campers from the past and the tiny little minis is because of safety. We need crumple zones and reinforced areas. The attraction of vans is that low load floor and this doesn’t have that since you can’t make the seats go away. I had a 1985 Toyota Van that despite being a small vehicle had loads of space, but you did have to remove and store the seats somewhere. I would rather have a short wheelbase and just the front seats if they can’t make them disappear in the van like others do with the fold into the floor units. I have an ID.4 now, so I’m unlikely to get another VW because of software. They really should get a Tesla and study it. The car itself is nice though, but the lack of a frunk in a SUV size vehicle is bad packaging and the nannies and lack of persistence in settings in the software could be easily fixed before I shop for a new car. Or not

Hmm. The height makes me wonder how many garages will be too small for this. I still remember my neighbors getting a Chevy Astro van in the '80s, and how it rammed into the top of the opening when they tried to pull in for the first time, and that was in the range of 6'2" to 6'4". However, it looks like the old Type 2 was also about 6'4", so I guess I'm just making the category error of thinking this is a minivan, when it's really a full-size van. (The Astro was unusual for basically being the height of an old full-size van, but the length of a minivan)

Worse yet, there's only 2 seats in the rear and no front row 3 seater option?! And not even on the US version? This is a deal-breaker for many. Not the electrical side door, or that little window. The original VW bus had the door and steering wheel in front of the front wheel and this maximised the remaining space to the rear. I guess today that crash survivability of the driver takes precedence and that the driving position is moved further back. I hope therefore it has cavernous frunk as compensation. The original top quarter windows at the corner between side and roof are iconic and it is a shame that they did not replicate these. Such a route would make a ‘camper’ version a bit easier to implement. That all said if VW can negotiate a NACS deal with Tesla and keep its dealerships on message they should do well with the Buzz iD.

Does it have camping mode like the Teslas meaning you can sleep in air-conditioned comfort all night and only lose 5% of the battery charge.

3:52 "I haven't been in many SUV that has this much room"... of course, because that's not an SUV but a VAN. Anyway, they felt like having a 2nd row just like the ones in an SUV. Can't understand why they didn't choose to put 3 independente seats (with isofix) like a proper VAN. They did such a great job with the Multivan, having those 3 rails and confy seats for a real family car... this has a lot of space, but they missed the point (in a family car perspective). Good looking though.!!

Unfortunately, "spiritual successors" are very rarely true replacements. Something like this is far out of reach for the same type of people who enjoyed the originals. The same can be said for the New Beetles. What made the originals so popular and well loved is nowhere to be seen in the new iterations.

I need to know the range! for a good cross country EV there needs to be a minimum of 400-500 miles! I'm glad to see this entering the markets, but I really hope its not stuck below 250mi range like all the other non-tesla EV cars.

Real world range at 70mph will be terrible. The bigger pack will maybe do 250 in summer but in winter with heating that big interior and wet roads, colder air you will be lucky to get 200 miles. This definitely needed a 125-150kwh pack size option. No idea how the large one is not even cloae to 100kwh.

It is shown elsewhere on YT that the 3rd row of seats is removable on the lwb Buzz. Does anyone know why the 2nd row isn’t? VW is hemming and hawing on whether or not US market would want a cargo Buzz. WHY NOT, lol?!? There are no more smaller vans available in the US-either ICE or EV. There’s one right here! Does VW NOT want to dominate the market? It seems like a inherently flat-floored platform would be a shoe in for a cargo EV.

I'm sure this car's gonna be a hit. And I hope VW banks on that and gives a limited or widely available ID buzz camper. Like a mini rv. No toilets and kitchen obviously.

What happened to the configurable seats and tables like the concept shows? This is kind of why I hate concept cars. They show so much potential and deliver a fraction.
