If you want to grow citrus, these trees are almost bullet proof. Mine has been through 2 moves, a drought, and insects and still produces amazing fruit. Originally in a small container in a zone 8A, it did ok on my deck, and I brought it in every winter. I now live in a zone 9A and it produces lots of fruit and stays outdoors year round in a large planter. I cover it with a sheet only on nights that go below 27 degrees. I thought I had accidentally killed it during the last move, but it sprang back to life when I replanted it in manure. Pretty good for a plant I bought at a roadside citrus stand in FL ten years ago!

Love my Ponderosa lemon. I've had one for years. Fruit are huge. I usually get anywhere from 1 - 1 3/4 cups of juice per lemon. They make a great lemonade and since they re much sweeter than a regular lemon, or even a grapefruit, you don't need to add as much sugar

I thought the regular lemon was a hybrid between the Citron and Bitter Orange, so this is just hybridizing the hybrid of Citron and Bitter Orange with Citron again? (Im not sure if "table lemon" is an actual title, or you're just meaning it's a common lemon)

So if it can be traced to Italy then it’s like the amalfi Lemmon ?

Receiving full sun? How often are you watering? Is it being fertilized? If so, what is the NPK value on the fertilizer and how often is it being applied?

Great video! Been waiting to see one about your amazing 112 year old tree! Question, the 5 inch pot Ponderosa you offer online, would you say this size needs the branch structure to develope for how long before allowing to hold fruit? Also, can you allow this size plant to flower and then just remove any fruit starting until the plant is ready to hold it. Thank you !
@LogeesPlants9 жыл бұрын
+Scott Graham The answer is under good growing conditions a year of growth with some pruning will help in structuring the plant to hold the fruit. Long if conditions favor slower growth i.e. reduced fertilizer or les thatn optimum lighting. Yes remove the fruit from young plant until they are developed enough to support it

Just a question: from your experience as a horticulturalist, can subtropical and tropical fruits mature and ripen fully in northern latitudes, bearing in mind that the sun is much weaker than it is at the equator (tropics) for several months of the year? If you were ever to reinstate international shipping, I would buy a tonne of plants from you!
@LogeesPlants9 жыл бұрын
+Gary Card The tropical and subtropical fruiting plants that we grow do ripen here. In some cases it may take a little longer for the fruit to ripen and in other cases, bananas are an example, it takes longer to bring them into fruit.
