Hey! Great video. Oh, I'd love to have a conversation with you about Country Music over a few beers. I think we're basically simpatico, but I'm more forgiving of what comes out of Nashville...Not that I like it, but it clearly resonates with a large number of people. And who am I to rain on their parade? Country has always latched itself onto other musical genres, some we like, some we don't. I love Western Swing, but if you don't like Swing music it won't be for you, likewise Country Rock. But the 60s and 70s Pop Country is generally not my thing, because I don't like that kind of Pop which it latched itself onto, the same with the 90s Country "hat acts", which took 70s and 80s commercial rock as its influence. I think it's particularly fair to accept Country Rock, Folk Country and Americana as being closer to "real" country, while disregarding modern Bro Country....Which I don't like. Country Music is a big enough sand pit to work out where you want to play and where you don't. Hell, Lester Flatt hated the direction Country Music was going in the late 60s, whereas Earl Scuggs saw the importance of moving forward and exchanging musical ideas with the younger generation. A great collection of records. I love that Willi Carlisle album, very Woody Guthrie in places. That's a rather lovely Willie Nelson box set. I'm a bit jealous you've got that and I don't. The first gig attended after the venues reopened post lockdown was The Mountain Goats. It was a very emotional concert. To hear a full house singing "I'm gonna make it through this year, if it kills me!", almost had me in tears. Glad this thread led me to your channel. I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your Country and Americana collection in future videos. Cheers - Hedley

Hedley, thank you so much for the kind words. We do seem to agree on many of the topics presented, I do love this music. I agree in that I don't want to belittle the bro country to people who enjoy it but I will not spare it from my feelings when asked about it,. People have to and should be able to enjoy what makes them feel good, despite my every fiber resisting it. The Willie Nelson box set is glorious and I think they still have some left at VMP if you feel so inclined... ;). Again, thanks very much for your words AND your channel. I'm a subscriber.

There is no way I can ever do this tag, unless I break the rules in a big way. I like some of what I think is Americana, but have never liked traditional country music, with some minor exceptions, like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. I think I heard too much of it when I was young. I recall that RATM thing and Tom's comments about it. Deep thinkers. Hilarious. In My Life is a top 5 Beatles track for me. Really great video!

Thanks very much, Brian and I hear you. "Americana" is a really loose term. I must be doing this wrong because I lost like 15 subscribers in the last 2 days. Either way, I'll keep trudging and I am grateful for you being so kind.

@@DaddyRich71 The subscribers thing will drive you mad. Your comment reminded me of a video I did that got over 12000 views. I gained something like 150-175 subscribers during the week after that video was posted, but around half of them unsubbed shortly after that, probably because my content didn't match what they expected (at least that is my explanation). Every time I have a video that does well (around 500-1000 views) I get new subs, and then they fall away when I post a new video. It is odd, but a fact of YT life, I guess.

I appreciate strong opinions. I've watched a number of these tags and I'm still not sure what Americana is. I don't understand how a Beatles record can be included.

You make a good point there, but I was thinking along the lines of how this "new" acoustic Beatles sound was directly descended from their obsession with Bob Dylan circa 1964-65. I might have made my point inelegantly, that i will concede.
