I had a friend that used to be Amish, she, her siblings and her mom left the community because her little brother had cancer and the mom wanted to get him treated. Her dad was like "If it's God's will, he will die." And her mom really said "✨No✨" and took her kids in the middle of the night and left. He's okay now, by the way, He's been cancer free for 6 years. They are kinda low tech still, but they still use it :)

I’ve lived around Amish most of my life. There are different sects that have different beliefs. Some are super strict. The color of the clothes and buggy will tell you their sect. It never gets old seeing people living that lifestyle. Or like an 8 year old driving a horse cart of the road with their younger siblings. Wild to see now. But our great grandparents were living essentially the same lives.

I think I would have returned to the amish lifestyle after rumspringa or whatever it's called when they go out and party and stuff for a year before they decide how they want to live (if I grew up in such a community). I think there is a certain happiness that it's hard to get any other way than when you just log off everything and get away from the general stressed out technology-society where effectiveness and the fight to climb the latter is all around you, all the time. However, having lived with all of the modern technology, I don't think I would be so happy saying goodbye forever to it. I'd probably have a wife and children too if I lived like that, so that alone would have made my life 10x better than the one I have now.

Amish don't have a good track record with women, but as someone else said there are different sects with varying degrees of how strict they are. A lot of ex amish have also come out and talked about a lot of sexual abuse and incest. There is a certain appeal to some of the amish beliefs and way of life though
