This is fascinating. What a unique sounding little beast! Great work dude, you're amazing!

Colossal improvement from changing the tinny speakers in small old amps. No crossover distortion here since it is single ended. (No crossing over from one output tube to the another.)

It would be interesting to see how it sounds through a better speaker. I built a larger cabinet for my Vibro Champ chassis and installed two 8 ohm 10" speakers in parallel, and the amp sounds like an entirely different animal. I have also played it thru a 4 ohm 4 x 10" cab.
@YeatzeeGuitar14 күн бұрын
@@MichaelSmith-rn1qw yeah on mine it's got a speaker out box I built so that I can run it into any cab. Fun stuff! The owner wants it primarily as a studio tool, just let it be what it is.

RR's calculator still have 6V6s at 14 watts? Crossover happens on push pull signals, the phase separation crosses. What you're seeing on the scope may be blocking distortion

@@YeatzeeGuitarSome old manuals agree but more spec 12 watts. The double mica JJs can handle 14 but you might consider being more conservative with old/original tubes.
@YeatzeeGuitar14 күн бұрын
@@oldasrocks9121 It was my understanding that they've basically always been 14w tubes, but the way they were rated / tested for rating changed at some point in the 60's hence the confusion. I believe JJ's are even higher rated than 14w in reality.
@oldasrocks912114 күн бұрын
@@YeatzeeGuitarJust looked, both my Tung Sol and RCA manuals say 12. You could certainly be right about the 60s rating change. Since old US tubes generally don't have date codes I follow the 12 watt rating to keep from burning others' old tubes up prematurely. That's all, no scolding, just a precaution on my part.

Sounds great! Better "Natural" sound than most Champs. BTW , I used an 8uf blue phillips instead of a 22/25uf for the bias and the treble became much more bearable( Telecaster). Is the amp circuit in your video known as a " Hybrid" ? Thanks

@@giulioluzzardi7632 interesting 🤔 I've never tried experimenting with that cap value before. Not sure what you mean by hybrid

I'd be too tempted to re-engineer the original design, but adapt it to 2024. Who needs three inputs? Replace it with a two-input, Fender switching style input. Repurpose the third 1/4" jack hole with something useful (line out, second tone pot, master volume, etc) Power switch on volume control? Put in fresh pots and eq cap. Move the fuse inside and put a power switch in the fuse hole. Then ditch those ceramic coupling caps. Go with some orange drops to replace in the same size. Fresh electrolytics and .1uf bypass cap. Leave everything else stock. Basically keep its original tone while making it as useful as possible.
