Fort Prinzenstein (Danish: Fort Prinsensten) is a fort located at Keta, Ghana which was used in the slave trade. Many such forts were built in Africa, but Prinzenstein is one of the few that lie east of the Volta River. Keta served as an open port until the Tema Harbour commenced its operation to the west in 1962. The fort has been designated a World Heritage property.
It was initially built by Danish traders in 1784 for defensive purposes after the Sagbadre War against the Anlo Ewe and to keep the area safe from other colonial powers. The majority of the materials, especially the stone used for the building of the fort, came from Accra. The fort is among the four major structures that were built by the Danish.

These re things we need in our history books . Ghana need to level up . 95 percent of the population barely knows what happened in these dungeons . Why aren’t we encouraging these things in schools but rather religious n morale eduction ? What In the hell is religious n morale education going to do for us ?

The cruel part of the slave trade which is not even taught in our schools or preserved in the history books. Lots of valuable information and great history lesson. Many of the captured or stolen Afrikans were also sent to Barbados, Jamaica and other Caribbean islands by the British slave traders.

Educational video 👍 I didn't know there was a fort in the Volta region. i checked on Wikipedia to know how much forts / castles were built in Ghana. Elmina castle was the first (1482) and the fort in Keta was the last built (1784).

Starting in the late 17th century, the Ashanti king Osei Tutu (c.  1695 - 1717) and his adviser Okomfo Anokye established the Ashanti Kingdom, with the Golden Stool of Asante as a sole unifying symbol.[5][6] Osei Tutu oversaw a massive Ashanti territorial expansion, building up the army by introducing new organisation and turning a disciplined royal and paramilitary army into an effective fighting machine.[4] In 1701, the Ashanti army conquered Denkyira, giving the Ashanti access to the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean coastal trade with Europeans, notably the Dutch.[4] The economy of the Ashanti Empire was mainly based on the trade of gold and slaves.[7] The army served as the effective tool to procure captives.[8]
