Love this video!! We were there some years ago! Such a sad story preserved in time. Was fascinated to learn how they have hot water plumbing way back in those years and how the city was designed in such a way it could never get flooded by rainstorms...brilliant engineering feats for their time. Cheers Gabe.

I found Herculaneum fascinating because you can really see all the layers of civilizations that are one on top of one another. Current Naples is the top layer. 75% of Herculaneum is still un discovered and of course much of Pompei is undiscovered. Lots of work still to do!

Pompeii, like the archeological sites of the pyramids in Egypt are perhaps the most studied in the world. There is a wealth of information that you would've benefited from in a guided tour. For example the separation of the stones on the ground of the streets which you showed at the beginning of the video. They are part of the infra-structure of the city. It reveals the sewage system. You missed the location where prepared food were sold, where people hangout, the brothels (phallus image) and many other interesting locations. These locations are easily identified by a trained eye. Next time please consider a guided tour because it will tell you how people live in Pompeii and who they were. It will not only enhance your knowledge, but will also enlighten those who are followers of your adventures.

Or take a free guided audio tour, I like Rick Steve's, but a lot of times it is just fun to explore on your own. I personally have found that a lot of guides just add in what I call fluff and many want to take you to a commission shop

At 18:05...there was NO arch there...the wagons were able to pass in between the stones and the stones were there so pedestrian could cross during the spring floods. You see the roads were designed to divert flood waters away from the city very efficiently. Cheers.

Roman has amazing historic spot. Watching this vlog shows me how Pompei has combination of modern and traditional civilization that we also still use until now like food storage, spa room etc. Unfortunately some all of them broken by volcanic ash and earthquake at that time. Yet I feel grateful could see its rich of knowledge & culture until now. Thank you Uncle Gabriel for the great vlog. 😃👏

Hey Gabriel, what a nice video. Pompeii is on my bucket list and hopefully some day this virus will make it a little easier to get out and then get back into Thailand. I did notice the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian columns, it must have been quiet an interesting place to be before the volcano erupted. I love the Greek and Roman history.

I just did Pompeii in July in the middle of one of Italy's worst heat waves in years. Couldn't see everything because it was just too hot and humid. I'll do it in a colder season like you next time LOL. By the way, that Garibaldi station in Napoli is a trip, what a mix of people! One of the great things about exploring Pompeii is Vesuvius looms in the distance in so many views.

Good to see you in Naples. There is another Roman site closer to Naples. You would have passed it on way out on train. I was told it was potentially even better than Pompei. Certainly less known and a lot less people. However at the moment not as many folk travelling so much of a muchness. You should consider yourself lucky to be at pompei at this moment in time. Normally it is swarmed with people. You are like a Royal visitor. Great video. Looking forward to your next travel adventures. Thanks. 👍

Another well-made video, but does anyone else agree that it's hard to get excited about Italy now that there are pasta and pizza restaurants everywhere around the world, and now that every member if the global nouveau riche is adorned with Gucci and its Italian stable-mates? Is Italy suffering from the hangover of its success in the twentieth century, selling itself through an image of bling-y generic sophistication that now stains the whole brand?
