Well done Tara. Brilliant story telling & video. This club has been in my blood for my 42 yrs as Jim is my father. While other kids grew up saving money to send to Africa we grew up scrambling money for Moninne. Every penny found was put into a tin for the club. Every flag day the kitchen was HQ where all the coins where sorted 1st by colour then size, counted & bagged up. Every penny & the odd chewing gum wrapper was tallied for. Memories! And yes it always rained at Poc Fada lol

That's a lovely window into the memories there Andrea, thanks so much for sharing. I hope Jim likes it too, I have a few DVDs to give him back here that he lent me. I really hope people take up the charge here and help the club out, Jim has worked so hard over the years to help make this happen! 💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤

Loved the commentary and the video. I am from Oklahoma in the USA and know absolutely nothing of hurling other than my buddy near Dundalk loves the sport. Well done.

Clubs popping up faster than I can keep track. Standard of play is pretty low but got to start somewhere. That said the closest club to me has come on leaps and bounds in the past decade. I would bet there are clubs in OK. Tons near me in the Northeast & all throughout the southeast as well. Long may it continue. You might be able to find info on the USGAA'S website. I have been at work trying to get a local youth club for camogie and hurling started. Not easy & pretty much no help available from the GAA/USGAA or Camogie Association but it's a worthwhile goal/effort IMO. The youngsters I've introduced to the sport love it & a few picked up skills in a few sessions that took me ages to pick up. I still play but getting older & get real joy from teaching/coaching. It's quite rewarding. 💛🖤💛🖤 Up the 🐈 🐈!

This is pretty class. Amazing detail and history. I've been privileged enough to be able to play and develop my skills to their fullest potential and play at the highest of levels. It was my art. Being fit enough to express myself through the medium of a 34 inch long piece of ash and ball wrapped in leather. It is one of the greatest honours as an Irish person be able play any of our ancient sports that are so special and unique to our tiny Island. All foreign persons who witness a game of hurling say the same thing... "Wow, this is amazing, how come we haven't heard of this before"... because it is just that, amazing.

Excellent video Tara. It's too bad the sport never went worldwide like that silly Scottish game, pasture pool. Aka golf. LOL I'm not bragging or anything, but I live about 20 miles from where basketball was invented. I actually don't think about it much. LOL

I mean it did go international but you're dead right, I'd be a lot more interested to see Tiger Woods with a hurl in his hand 😆

@@DiaryofaDitchWitch I've not seen hurling or cricket in Canada. I guess there could be clubs in the big cities. I live in the sticks. We do have lacrosse, which is similar. I have seen places where they lawn bowl. LOL. Right up there with golf.LOL. I,m gonna leave you alone now till next time, Tara. Take care and catch ya later.

@@waynemahon4755 pretty sure there are clubs popping up in Canada. Maybe not at the pace they've been here in the states over the past decade. Never too young or old to be involved w/a local club in some capacity. ✌🏽
@JerryGarciaPOBox3 жыл бұрын
@@waynemahon4755 ever watch any Shinty? You mentioned Scotland so I thought I'd ask. Definitely a more "niche" sport than hurling but I enjoy a bit. They usually have a small competition w/Ireland that's a kind of a mix of the two. Ireland plays w/hurls(or hurley's, depending on the county 😉 ) w/some rule changes that I enjoy. There's a few videos of the combination game here on KZbin & plenty of Shinty as well.
