According to Wikipedia the region was called the Kingdom of Hadhramaut. There are articles about this and several contemporary south Arabian kingdoms.

This kingdom actually existed a couple centuries before hadhramaut was first mentioned!

I found your discussion excellent about a remote part of the world and an obscure subject which is nonetheless important. I was a Historical Geography professor for 32 years so that might explain my interest. The discussion is relevant for understanding more broadly ancient trade routes in that part of the world and the links between South Asia, the Mediterranean and Africa. Sometimes a short discussion of the most relevant points can be difficult. I thought that you did an excellent job.

You are taulking about ancient Kingdom of Hadhramaut
@KnowHistory
@KnowHistory 2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, it is possible, the geographic area is the same, but there's no certainty, it could be a kingdom that came before Hadhramaut. The Greeks called Hadhramaut by the name "Chatramotitai" which is vastly different from the "Chóras Livanotofórou" mentioned in periplus.

Sorry, but this is widely inaccurate. The kingdom is well-known, and we have the names of its kings and cities and all. The Greeks knew the name of the kingdom, and the names of some of its kings. It's the kingdom of Hadhramaut, and we literally have hundreds of inscriptions from here, and we know the names of various tribes from within it, we have its coinage, its architecture, its urban planning, all.
