I was an infant when these aired. Although, I don't remember these (except in reruns) , by the time I was 4 or 5, I was a regular viewer. Too young to understand what TV was, I thought they were documentaries. The single camera setup and low camera angles still contribute to that feeling. The constant flow of quirky but likable characters coupled with great writing made this one of the best TV sitcoms, ever.

The Christmas Story is my favorite from Season 1. Makes me cry every time I see ole Ben Weaver looking in and wishing he could be a part of their joy.

Many actors/actresses from Andy Griffth also played characters in Gunsmoke. I enjoy both series and have my favorites. It's awesome to be able to access every episode "on demand" using apps like Pluto. Back in my day you either kept track of when the next episode was on or you missed out!😊

Agree. Lightweight material with just a recap. Testing experts on the show is just a waste of time anyways, as most could recite in their sleep.

Season 1 was terrible. He completely changed his persona to the better and the show was a hit. But Season 1 I did not like at all.

You can understand Season 1 better by knowing the origins of the show. It was intended to be Andy’s show with Barney on the side. Andy, recognizing Don Knott’s talent, was man enough to let Don be the comedian and get all the laughs. Thus, Don’s 5 Emmy awards. It took season 1 to get it all sorted out.
