The Old Gods worshipped before Christ by the Anglo-Saxons, roughly from about 2000 BC (before their tribal identity was solidified to be fair) to the early 1000s AD when the last pagan "witches" and "wizards" disappeared. Thunor took precedence before Odin took over, probably after 600 AD and possibly only in the Norse and Germanic pantheon in the first place, some think Thunor was always more important to the Anglo-Saxons and remained so, as they loved war above the wisdom that Snorri so admired later on.
Credits to CL for the great splash artwork! Also to R. for figuring out the PIE fable, which was the first one from the Liber Primus.

The Norse (Danes, Swedes, Norwegians) & Anglo-Saxons (Angles, Saxons, Jutes) were both Germanic (key term). They lived in different regions of Northern Europe with different languages and customs BUT they were extremely similar to each other in so many many ways. They were essentially cousins!

"Wada" is even how plenty of English dialects pronounce water to this day (English w sound, obviously). These similarities across otherwise different languages are the entire basis for the reconstruction of proto-Indo-European, and even the very idea that a common language whence came the modern versions once existed. As to why Latin used aqua instead of water/voda or why PIE apparently had two words for water, I don't have a clue.

What about Geat (Gaut)? He is listed higher than Woden in Anglo-Saxon royal genealogies and likely was a god. While Saxneat was likely the tribal god of the Saxons, Geat likely was the tribal god of the Goths, Gotlanders and Jutes, who also were a part of the Anglo-Saxon people and may also have become the national god of all Germanic people through an association with the word "god" (as the neuter gender of the word "god" meaning "deity" became masculine at some point). I think that "Ingwine" was a type of "ancestor king", rather than a god. He is listed highest in Swedish genealogies and as a son of Woden. On the other hand, Ing or Iring (In Old German) is similar to the Norse Freyr (Old English "frēa" meaning lord) and his name maybe also have been associated with the name Angel/English. The "Iringsweg" (Ings way) in Old German sources means the Milky Way. Wade/Wada likely was just a Water giant (like in English folklore).

I love this video. Not much is known of the Anglo Saxon Pantheon due to their early conversion into Christianity. That and being overshadowed by the very well known Norse Pantheon. Like a lot of people say; Norse Gods but more Anglican. They are right to some degree. The Anglo Saxon Pantheon is both similar and VERY different from the Norse. The only thing I wish to mention is there is not much evidence supporting the claim that "Loki" was part of the Anglo Saxon Pantheon. I myself, a Saxon Heathen, give more praise to Thunor and Seaxneat on a day to day basis. However, when seeking knowledge and wisdom, I praise Woden. Seasonal, its Eostre as well as Sunne and Muna. When I seek justice for wrongdoing, it is Tiw. When it comes to my family and household, its Frig and Freo. I do not recognize "Loki" for he his a Norse God. Though I give offerings to all; when it comes to certain situations or time of year, I praise the God(s) more associated with what I require to best overcome my challenge or honor them and my ancestors.

Tiw or tiwaz was not just tyr god that lost his hand to fenrir like his norse equivalent Tyr in the eddas no he was actually the head of the pantheon instead of woden who was more of the shamanic death god and god of the wild hunt and warriors. Tiwaz was the god of single combat, honour and glory on the battlefield, justice and law and oaths and the sky father he comes from Deyues pater the indo european sky father Deyues became Tiwaz to the germans. Tiwaz was sacrificed to by the wicker men, burning crinimals and and war prisoners over bonfires on wooden poles standing them over bonfires wrapping the people in sacks ropes and straw. But mostly placing loads of crinimals in large wooden figurine and raising it up so it stood up over the bonfire and set it on fire. Tiwaz was also given wolves and eagles and sparrow hawks as sacrifices. He was higher than woden until the danelaw when the danish vikings took over england and under the danelaw made odin the king of the pantheon and the most high god replacing tyr and giving odin most of tyrs aspects. So Tiw should be the head of the pantheon not woden and his wife Eorde was the earth goddess their union creates humanity through god Mannaz. Seaxneat is the god of sword combat and tribal ancestor god to the saxons, he was created from Tiw's severed hand. Tiw used to be the god of swords and sword combat but when the seax grew in popularity as the main type of sword in the saxon world and the main side arm weapon to spears and long pole axes. Seaxneat was created, said to have been Tiw's severed buried hand turning into a man. Seaxneat became the protector of towns and homes. Woden was the god spear combat and spear throwing on horse back and off horses. He was the protector of the buried kings and nobles in their burial mounds. Was the shamanic god of communicating with the dead. He was the god of protection agianst the spirits of hel. He was the monster slayer, leader of the wild hunt during the winter solstace yule. He was the god of rage and frenzy state and warriors could go into this frenzy by calling upon Woden for inspiration and taking psychodelics to do so. He was the god of psychodelic rituals and devine madness (the frenzied madness that came along with drug taking during shamanic rituals). He was a psychopomp who dealt with the dead bring the souls of murderers, crinimals, rapist and sinners to helheim and the one who granted people reincarnation after death. He also took some souls of the dead to be his riders of the wild hunt because he needed to fill his ranks and this considered a punishmemt one could be freed from eventually once they proved them self worthy to woden and served their time in the wild hunt. Woden was the god of the hanged and sacrifices to him meant that people were hung on the trees of the gallows as a sacrifice to woden so he could gain new riders of the wild hunt ready for yule when the Giants, trolls, valravns, dark Alfs and other monsters came out to cause chaos on Earth and wreak havoc on humanity. Woden's wild hunt was the only form of protection agianst these monsters as well as thunor (thor) the storm god the monster slayer. Baldaeg who is the anglo saxon god of light and the dawn was the god of the sky and was born from Sunne the goddess of the sun dies shortly after and is replaced by Baldaeg. Baldaeg's death at the hands of Laguz (anglo saxon Loki) was a way to explain the coming of winter and the cold harsh bad weather and dull days and long nights during winter. The sun barely being around and there being barely any bright sunmy days. Because Baldaeg was in Helheim the underworld and part of the agreement with goddess Hel for letting Baldaeg come back to lifr was that Baldaeg had to spend half the year in hel with her providing the relams of the underworld sun light and day light and the other half providing sun light and day light to the Earth. Anglo saxons had no concept of Ragnarök nothing like Ragnarök existed to them. Einherjar were the riders of the wild hunt and it was a punishment to be swept up by the wild hunt and forced to ride forever up the sky hunting monsters and dark spirits with Woden. The waelcyres (valkyries) were soul stealing witches much like the banshees who came to battlefields to steal souls of the dead warriros and pendants and charms were placed on the bodies of dead warriors so that the waelcyres could not steal their souls. Stealing their souls preventing them from properly being buried, ritualisitically being layed to rest and prevented them from reincarnating into a new human form. The waelcyres may have even been similar to the Valravns who were shapeshifting ravens who could possess the bodies of the dead and feed on the blood of the living to keep them selves alive and in possession of the dead corpse.

@@DaDoM123 Because butchery. Endless butchery. What other religion demands "Convert or die!"? Where are our true Saxon Values of Honour, Virtue and, above all, Freedom, mentioned in their sermons and books? Instead they demand groveling obsequiousness. They deserve nothing but contempt and ostracism.

@@arthurrobey4945 I see your point I'm an atheist so I hold no candle for abrahamic religions I frankly find them annoying and super cringe but that kind of just sheer hate doesn't lead to anything good as we learnt from the last century so yeah I'm totally fine with you believing in the gods of forefathers but just let them be people in britain are becoming less religious anyway so

@@DaDoM123 Atheists are fundamentally Objective Materialists. Objective Materialism died in Copenhagen in 1927. All attempts at resuscitation have failed. It is stone dead. You do not have a soul. You Are a soul. You have a body. Ref: Physicist Dr. Tom Campbell. My big TOE. (Theory of everything). The evil of Abrahamism must be exposed. No matter. The Dhamic religions are emerging again.
